Painted My Rims!

Ok, so I painted my rims this weekend - took me all weekend actually. I did the whole car at once too. Man, it was funny seeing my car up on 4 jackstands!!!! Anyway, here are the results, hope you like them... At the end I have a few questions, because I think I did something wrong.
Ok, so here is my problem. First time I did the front and let them sit over night, without a clearcoat. Came over the next morning and BAM! They look freaking awesome, but for some reason, the damn paint is not flaking off, but moreso rubs off!!!!

Now, I panic, because I feel like I have just screwed up two perfectly good wheels. I cleaned them, prepped them with some degreaser stuff, and washed them, and sanded them down nice and scratchy - but they come off???
So, I go to the store, buy some more jackstands, some clearcoat for wheels, and some more wheel paint (duplicolor). I now do all four wheels, this time, I put a light coat on the ones I did prior, then put on a clearcoat (3) and do the same to the other wheels... paint, coat, coat, clear, clear, clear... per the instructions (apply coats after 10 minutes, apply clears within 1 hour).
But they still feel gritty, and the paint comes off when I rub it lightly... not completely, but it is coming off... plus there are some nice clear spots and some that look rough! I am so confused, frustrated, and upset about it - I screwed up the wheels? Can this be fixed? Repainted? Saved? Thanks fo any help! But they still look good!!!!

I wouldn't know how to describe it better - the paint is on, but when I put my finger on it, and move it across, black rubs off, and the silver under starts to shine through. I will probably wait till this next weekend and tale them off, sand em down lightly (2000 grit) and put a new clearcoat on them... I might just try rubbing compund instead of sandpaper. AH HELL. I dunno, they look freaking awesome. not to mention, they dried for over 24hrs before I handled them, and then after I put them on, it rained within 1 hour.

I did my buddies wheels with that paint. All we did was clean the wheel with some brake clean, wiped it dry then sprayed 3 coats of the black and let dry for a day. Its been through winter and still hasnt came off.

Do it right the first time. powdercoat them. Looks alot nicer. May cost more, but its better then painting them every year.

Don't panic. They did that to me too, and I used the Duplicolor paint. Wash them. I know, it's scary, lol but for some reason it's powdery.
Mine have been painted for a few weeks now, and while it was powder coming off, the paint stayed on. I know exactly what you're talking about though, so don't think you're going crazy. I didn't put a clear coat on mine though. I've been thinking about taking them off, putting the snowflakes on, and spending the weekend touching them up, cause there are a couple spots on mine that came out lighter then the rest. And then putting the clear coat on them.
I washed them with dish detergent, sanded, washed again, then painted. I didn't prime.

i wasnt happy with the way the primer worked with the paint
it made it soft, if i ever get another set of wheels and paint them, they wont have primer....

dont really know about snow flakes. but isnt there one that is kinda chrome and another that is not? but if yours was the chrome kind, i would think that the paint isnt sticking to the rim, and primer would have helped.

Hmm... I think I liked the silver better on your car.

Maybe it just needs lowered?
As long as you like them, though!

The best way is to powdercoat them. I used to work in a powder coat factory and You can't beat the quality and the finish. Plus the reliability.

Shoot, I would LOVE to powdercoat them - my dad use to do that and he said the same thing... that my friends, is for a time when I have winter tires.

But, thank you all - I am gettign it lowered, that is right after the TB and spoiler... just need to get some sprinsg now
As for the problems, thank you Neonix, I feel better... it has been raining here for 2 days and plans on raining for 2 more, so I am pretty stoked, because the paint is staying on, no problems - I think it was just dust
Thansk again!

since you said its raining.... it could be due to the humidity

. i sanded mine first with 200 grit sandpaper... 2000 would be to fine. then primered them, and then painted. the only parts where the paint has come off on mine is where i curbed the hell outta them

.
and i got the template fot the trunk/wing... hit me up on pm.

Yeah, ok, enough of the powdercoat comments - I mean, don't you think if I had the money to do such a thing, the time to invest, and a place to do it I would have? Thanks, really, for adding such wonderful input to this post.

While I have the money for powdercoating, I can't find a shop to do it, and the paint is holding up, and doesn't look half bad. So until the paint is flaking off and looks horrible, I think I'll stick with the paint.

looks damn good. way better than i would have imagined if someone told me they were going to do it. i actually like it NOT being dropped with those wheels. looks real beefy and tough, if that makes any sense. (i think part of it is that its an ACR even tho from the side the only giveaway is the front bumper!) *thumbs up to the painting AND the above rant on powdercoating, it needed to be said. cheap all the way! (I've painted 2 sets of wheels including my centerlines)*
