well shit.. i did it again.. i fucked something up....i was parking at work, and i was backing up to this little mound/hill.. well, i backed up too far, too fast, and the slope was steeper than i thought, the muffler went into the ground/snow, and then the car basically just folded it down.... so tomorrow i'm hacking the muffler off and starting my search for either an SRT rear section or srt catback....

Thats fucked up man... Sorry.. But at least you get rid of that fart can... See there is a plus side to every thing.. Make sure thats all that was bent.. Check all you piping..

the cannon is fine. i got it hacked off at the muffler shop today (couldn't find our hacksaw) i emailed a guy last night about a full SRT catback for 50 bucks. we'll see what happens.. the car sounds pretty cool without the cannon on there though. not much different, but enough that i like it even more than the canon.

the bumper has always been like that.
as soon as i get the SRT exhaust... i'm gonna do a bumper cutout to get rid of the bends in the bumper.

got incontact with the guy with the SRT catbakc. he still has it, and if all goes as planned, i will be picking it up tomorrow (saturday)

work schedule got chagned, so i have to wait a week. i'm already getting eyeballed by the local oinkers for this exhaust.. jsut a matter of time before they start getting anal about it.


someone told me that runnign without a muffler can mess up my valves.. is that true, or was i mislead?

i think you mite have been mislead cause the srt doesn't have any muffler's.

if i'm wrong please correct me.

no shane your right the SRT exaust just has two resonators. it would probly sound kinda like the fart cannon but a bit better. IMO

no i mean now, runing it open muffler, i'm thinking that he meant runnig it open header/manifold would mess up the valves. but i am getting so excited about this new exhaust

its going to be ridiculously loud. the SRT has a TURBO which muffles the exhaust impulses at the manifold so it doesnt really need a muffler. the resonators and piping bring the noise level down to an acceptable volume.

putting the srt exhaust on your non turbo car without any additional muffling device will be close to as loud as it is now with the stock pipe and no muffler. if you like stupid loud and dont mind destroying your hearing with the constant exhaust drone, go ahead and throw the srt exhaust on just like it is. (speaking from experience, that shit gets old real quick)

if i were in your position, i would roll to my local auto parts store, pick up a cherry bomb type straight through muffler in 2.25" inlet/outlet, install it just past the cat, and cut the srt exhaust to fit on the end of the cherry bomb. this will still be fairly loud, but it should quiet it enough to keep you off the cops radar (if you use some discretion, i.e. coasting past them...) and keep the car pleasant to drive.

but, its your car, do what you want.

i have an srt-4 exhaust on my neon and mine is hella loud of course i also have a header so that makes it even louder. and since i'm an idiot and like loud cars it suits me just fine.

im guessing your in the 17-21 age group? when i was 17, i had a 77 LTD II, 351 Cleveland with hooker longtube headers dumping right into 3" cherry bombs and turndowns, for a total of 36 inches of exhaust. it was loud. real loud. at the time, i thought it was cool. now that im older, i wouldnt have anything like that as a daily driver because it would annoy me firstly, and annoy other people secondly. nobody cares to hear a loud ass redneck piece of shit exhaust setup. its dumb, inconsiderate of others, and quite frankly, THE biggest ricemod i can think of, because it does shit for performance on a stock internals NA car. a free flowing exhaust doest have to be retarded loud, even on a V8.

i guess ive just grown up, but im really tired of hearing stock street cars with exhaust louder than an top fuel dragster...

sorry wrong age group i'm 30 and it does help the perfomance of my n/a neon.

oh and i still have my 77 camaro with a 1965 283 reworked all to hell still sitting the garage with a loud as you please exhaust.

as for the srt exhaust as long as you don't tromp on the gas it's not going to get that obnoxiously (i'm pretty sure i didn't spell that right) loud and since his neon is like mine an atx it won't be unbarably loud.

i'm getting so excited to get this exhaust! i knwo it's going to be loud. it won't annoy me.. i'll just turn up the tunes more. eventually i will probably add a cherry bomb, if i get hassled by the po po.... the cops around here are usually aight wiht the exhaust stuff.. but if you get on there bad side.. they'll pop you for EVERYTHING. anywyas. i've decided to toss my catco in the mix for good measure.. and then start hunting for a header......

ummm... fart can is gone. SRT exhaust is strewn about in my car. waitnig for install.. but i'm four hours from home, so install has to wait....

the cat back is installed. needs a biut of welding to seal up a small leak.. but otherwise, looks AWESOME and i love the sound! it actually sounds a lot liek the cannon i had ( i loved that cannon) but it's throatier/meaner sounding. pics up tonight i hope....
