Debadged, painted grill trim, and shine - lots o' pics
Nothing much here. I recently debadged (something I said I would never do), painted the chrome grill trim a Satin Black, and spent a couple of Sundays detailing. Here's the outcome, and the products I used:
2 Bucket Wash: Wax Shop (using up Big Lot's special)
Wax: Turtle Wax Titanium Ultra Gloss
Tires: Stoners More Shine
Wheels: WheelWax
Black Trim: Stoners Trim Shine
Glass: Stoners IG
Bug&Tar: Stoners Tarminator
LSP: Megs #26
Next job will be to fill/paint the front license plate holes.

Yeah. I don't mind the moldings -- since they are body color. I've read too many posts on "moldings removals gone bad". Also, it was a real pain to remove the little glue from the emblems (heat + WD40 + Goo Gone & still alot of patience. I think I'll keep them for the protection. I do like the looks w/o them.

yeah... they do leave marks, but the marks are only noticable up close... though that was on metalic color cars for me... I don't know about red... I realized that they didn't do much for protection cause everyone was hitting everything but them...koreysxt wrote:Yeah. I don't mind the moldings -- since they are body color. Nice job on the grill pieces... the black doesn't look too bad at all, but I like it when they are the color of the car as well.
She looks nice regardless of what I have to say so KUDOs!!!!

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of doing the grill pieces in body color, but I was afraid I wouldn't get that perfect match. Plus, I'm an amatuer when it comes to spraying. I sanded the chrome with 220 grit. Used Rustoleum Plastic primer, and 3 coats of Rustoleum Satin Black (wet sanding with 2000 grit in between coats). For now, I didn't use any clear. I will see how it holds up...I sprayed them with 303 to protect from UV:)

Ditto lol. I took mine off at my parents house last weekend and my dad came out and asked why i was takin the ding-guards off? i pointed at the several door dings well above the moldings, then pointed at the immaculate molding condition, and he said, "oh... I guess that's why". then today i parked next to another SXT at the dealership pickin up my ground fx and opened the door just a tad too far and bumped the molding. my guess, they're there for the dealer lots where they pack'em nuts to butts together lol.

Whoa dude I'm going to be like your opposite evil twin. Your whole front grill is black, including the original chrome trim, and my whole front grill is about to be solid chrome!

I'll never understand the whole de-badge thing, but oh well. Sure is a super-clean car though! I like the grille. I've always wondered what those pieces flat black would look like on a bright silver metallic car.

hey, when you painted the chrome trim did you clear coat it? my "honeychrome" has peeled off almost entirely. I'm thinking about doing it solid black this time around, like yours.

I do noit think he comes on here much anymore ---- if I were you John, I would strip off all the old stuff, sand it, prime it, then sand it smooth, then paint it. Clear it for a glossy look, or keep it flat without it.
