so here's the whole drawn out story...
heading down 981 leaving Latrobe, i saw a cop and i was in the process of lighting a smoke. state trooper pulls out and follows me to the intersection, we both make a left turn and he flips on the party lights.
i pull over at the next right, park the car, turn it off and put the keys on the dash. trooper walks up to my driver door and asks for license and registration, i hand them to him, and he tells me i was pulled over for the tint and my plate light was out (damnit...time to make a new one). So another trooper was already sitting there and he gets out and comes over and asks if there's anything they should worry about in the car. I said no and he goes back to the other trooper and i can hear them talking. They had asked where i was coming from and then i heard them saying "he couldnt have been driving more than 15 miles"...about 2 minutes later, the officer asks me to step out of the car to show me the plate light being out. so we're standing at the back of my car and he says "what kind of car is this? it looks like a neon, but i wrote down nitehawk" (for those who remember, i have the nitehawk lettering on the trunk). i chuckle a little bit and say its a neon, with custom lettering. well then the officer asks why i lit a smoke and goes into telling me how normally people will light a smoke to hide the smell of weed in the car... ok, no big deal, i understand...
then he asks if he can search my car, so i say go right ahead, i've got nothing to hide. so while he's searching the car, the other trooper asks me about the lettering, and the dodge badge on the trunk, yada yada yada...
couple minutes later, the trooper comes back from searching and hands me a warning...sure enough...the warning says "04 DODGE NITEHAWK"....
good thing he didnt write me an actual ticket...i could have faught it and won immediatly... mis-information gets them every time
check it out:

Wow... that's worse than when I got pulled over in my brown Grand Prix... and got a ticket that said Silver Monte Carlo... (even though, I counted 18 spots where the car said Grand Prix, Pontiac, or had the Pontiac symbol)
that's freaking hilarious!

Actually, the whole thing about a car being wrong and the ticket getting dismissed is false... It might have been true before but I know several cops in different states who say you can amend the ticket to fix the error and proceed with the ticket.
It is funny he wrote nighthawk tho

I don't see how it can be amended, you have the proof of the screw up with your own copy...

thats awesome

, when I got pulled over for no plate light (which was dim not blown, even though he told me it was out, and wouldn't let me outa the car to check) the cop wrote dodge neon even though mine is a plymouth, i know it don't matter though...that and the fact that he wrote down a 5 as one of the numbers on my license plate when it was an S....

, but what sucks is he ended up giving me a bald tire ticket.... /threadhijack

Hmm...maybe u should take off the Dodge too. Put like Honda on there or something..
Honda Nitehawk, then, even if they can amend it it'll look very suspicious.
Oh, and NEVER let them search the car if they ask. Ask 'em why, if they say 'U shouldn't have to worry if there isn't anything there' just say 'okay, i'll wait for the dog.'

takes them like 10 minutes on the radio to get a search warrant if you tell them no you can't search my car....b/c when you say no it gives them a reason to get a search warrant

yeah, reasponable suspicion...
based on the facts that i have tinted windows, i lit a cigarette when he pulled up behind me, and i couldnt pronounce the name of my buddy's new city he moved to(kept wanting to call it mammoth instead of mamoth), they would have had reasonable cause to get a search warrant...
i just figured, hey, i've got nothing to hide, so why do i care if he makes an ass out of himself searching for something he'll never find, cause its not there...

haha thats great, but i got to agree to never let them search the car, I had a friend whose buddy got pulled over by a dirty cop and said he found weed in it...he got off though thankfully...but just shows ya you cant even trust the 5-0

So check this one out.....
I'm 16, haven't gotten my license yet, and I am dating this chick that lets me drive her car, it was a 95 Hyundai Scoupe. At the time, that was the fastest car I had driven (didn't last long as my first car was a big block 67 Camaro).
So we had a drunken party the night before, and I am going to get breakfast while one of my buddies happens to be leaving, so instead of going down this backroad I could have gone down to avoid all matters of law inforcement, I go the same direction as my friend so I can show off.
One thing leads to another, I get lit up doing 55 in a 40, cop comes up to the car, asks for my license, I sa I don't have one, he asks the license number, I say I don't......he stops me, asks how my name is spelled out on it (keep in mind, my name is Christopher Holliday), I tell him Christopher (waiting for him to write), he says, spell it, I say, C..H..R..I..S..T..O..P..H..E..R.., he asks my date of birth?????? I say, ok, give it to him, my addy, yada yada, gives me a ticket, it says FIRST NAME: Chris LAST NAME: Topher.???? WTF???
So, I had to go to juvenile court with my dad (oh yeah, he's pissed), judge takes one look at the ticket, and tells me to go home, LOL.
Douchebag cop!! LOL.
(BTW, I want a Dodge Nitehawk!!)

Er...a search warrant? I highly doubt any of them will go to that trouble. You think a judge is going to give a search warrant for a car that got pulled over because of dark tint? The only way they can search the car is if it was in an emergency situation or if they spotted something inside from the exterior.
We are protected against unreasonable searches and seizures, so just because you had dark tint and a lite out doesn't give an officer a right to search the vehicle, unless you let them. OR...if they smell weed, etc they do have a reasonable purpose to search it, but that's still argueable.
If you say no to the search they have a reasonable amount of time to get a drug dog there. I'm not sure on the exact time but it's the time they would use to write your tickets. If they hold you longer you are basically under arrest, and they would be screwed if they went that far and found nothing. You would easily have grounds to sue. Learn the law guys!

Yeah but you might as well use your rights as an American, Amendment IV in the Bill of Rights, and just say "no", even if you don't have anything to hide.
