I've had a few members ask me for some more pictures of my car, so I decided on Monday that I'd head out to some hip locations and take some pictures. The result : The first pictures I take come out as decent as my previous attempts do. Crisp, reflective, etc. But then 2/3rds of the neon turns darkish. The ones I really liked the location of. Is it because it was really bright outside? That makes no sense though. I have no idea what I am talking about.

Dear 2gn, please help this camera noob figure out how the hell to work a camera please.

Target Greatland.
wow.. I thought all the Greatland's were converted to Super Target's. At least thats how it was in this territory.

(Used to be a Senior Team Lead for the Target Corp. Store 818 in Ft. Myers, the store I was stationed out of, converted, along with the Sawgrass store and about 20 other Greatlands in the southern half of the U.S.)

Can you guess how I knew it was a Target?

Car looks good. I ordered my Zaino Kit so hopefully my car will shine like that soon.

Well, you parked next to a WHITE building on that very first pic. Next set of pics you are near a dark colored building. White/light buildings behind/near the car will reflect sunlight onto the car.

Try some near a light building, but not when the sun is crazy bright and/or noontime. I'm sure you already know that to get nice, soft light (not harsh highlights/reflections) you shoot as dusk/dawn. When the sun is going down is easier cuz you don't have to wake up so early ;-)

Going thru ur pics, I see you had it on 'auto'. It kept adjusting the exposure on each shot.

My recommendations are these:
Don't shoot midday. That is where you will get most of your "darkness" on the bottom of the car, because all the sunlight is coming from ABOVE. Unless you are parked on white pavement, there's not going to be any light reflecting back up at your car to light up the side/bottom of the car.
If you notice, the pic that you liked was taken around 4 pm. Amazing what a difference there is between 1pm to 4pm.

If your cam has a manual mode (or aperature/shutter priority mode), mess with it. Just see what different settings do. I see that your cam has "Exposure compensation: +/- 2.0 EV in 0.5 EV step increments" I believe you can adjust that manually.

But really, since the cam isn't a DLSR or anything, your best bet is just to leave it on auto and shoot at the correct time of the day

I <3 your rims btw.

01rtgurl has got it down. dawn and dusk are the best times of the day to shoot because it is the best lighting. also if your uploading program happens to let you edit your photos, try messing around with that stuff and you can really up your picture quality. even better if you have photoshop then use that.
