...when you forget to bring your WRX to lapping day and take your neon instead
Mosport was a blast though, and despite being at least 100 ponies down on them guys I wasn't getting passed as badly as I thought
Lapping days, do them

Thats almost as bad as taking your SUV to a neon meetup:

What track where you at? I've been trying to get out to a track day for the last two years or so, either haven't had the time or the car was broken.

He went to Mosport, which is up here in Canada, about 2.5 hrs from me. They have open track and group track days.
Really pretty track, but it's definitely not a good place for first-timer's to get their "lumps" as it is...

I reread the post.
Looks like a fun/fast track.

^^^ That's the Grand Prix track. There are a few planning to organize a day on there for next May, but only for the more experienced lappers. They're estimating about $300 per person for that one. FYI that's the same track the ALMS boys will be running on when they come next week.
The track I was on was the smaller Driver Development Track (DDT), it was a cheaper at $150 for the day:
Mosport DDT
Nice and technical track. Most of the day we ran the outside red dots (especially when the rain hit

). We did run the inside purples for a bit and that was really technical and fun. The purple route right after turn 5 was nice off camber turn to boot.
That was my first time out and I enjoyed it to no end. I ran stock LE suspension for first time out to get a feel for turn in and weight transfer. Next summer I hope to come back and run the coilovers now that I have my feet wet and know what to feel for.
For the cost of the used helmet I got plus the entrance fee it can't be beat. Not to mention full EMS support was there just in case. Cheaper than the speeding ticket

I can't remember the name off of the top of my head, but I know there's a road course just outside of detroit where some of the Southern Ontario boys also go to lap sometimes. That's not too bad of a drive from Fort Wayne.
Definately need a mechanically fit car. No leaks or anything, good tune, decent belts. But most importantly, BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES. IMO I wouldn't go with stock brakes, they'll fade out too fast. I Hawk HPS pads and was cooking my brake fluid, not to mention what my rotors looked like:
Really want to install a harness bar/roll hoop now. I was working the brakes so hard I wasn't even in my seat anymore, the 3pt belt was all that was holding me back

Heh, my brakes look like that right now from playing around and autocrosses. My brakes are shot right now, need new rotors and pads. I've been running HP Plus pads, great pad that performs very well, not the best pad for daily driving though...
I might be able to get out to a track day late this year, or it may have to wait to next year.
