New Wheels, something a little different.

Post by JFTL » Thu Aug 23, 2007 9:55 pm

Hey All,
Here's some pics of my new wheels. They are off of an early 90's Lebaron Coupe. I powdercoated them black (need to paint center caps still). Now if I could just get some struts for my SRT springs.

hehehe, I think they are kind of cool. Should have done something more like gunmetal or ever bronze or maybe shiny-like silver... I do agree though, they look like shiny steelies.

It's one of those things where you have to see them in person. They dome outward, so that makes them different then steelies.
I'm going to be putting some other black accents on my car, so that's why I went with the black paint.

I honestly think that they look better than the steelies. Not too bad IMO.

my steelies bow outward.....look like steelies....sorry but i think you wasted your money on powdercoating them when a set of steelies with some black paint and clear would have looked the same

The resemble steelies by a bit.... I personally would of went with a different color since they resemble steelies. But they still look awesome non-the-less.

i think if the car was slammed and you had something on the car to accent them they would look cool, right now they kinda look like steelies but there is potential for sure, as long as you like em though thats what matters...my 2 cents lol

Thanks for the (few) good comments. :D

As for the ones that don't like them, it's cool. I figured most people would make the steelie comment, so it was no big surprize, and I have thick skin. I still stand by the fact that they don't look like steelies in person. Besides, not your car, right ?

I wanted to do something other then the spoke style rims that most EVERYONE is running on their cars right now (not just Neons).

mynameiskiller: You are correct, in fact I picked them up on boostedmopar.com ( I also have a turbo'd k-car project to do after the neon is done.)

Yes, I'm realizing more and more how badly I need to get those SRT springs on. Anyone have some struts for a descent price ?

03blackrtI: went with these tires because if I didn't like the rims I could run them on my Lebaron.

Thanks for the looks and the love

Not too bad. Definitly something you don't see everyday. Sure they may look a little plain now. But if you are planning on doing some accents that will set off the wheels more they will look better.

good luck

I'd say they are about average on weight. I'm sure they weigh a little more then the old steelies.

I wanted to do the lip, but the powdercoater told me they would have to send them out after they painted them and have the powdercoating machined off. Needless to say that was additional cost that I didn't want to pay on wheels I wasn't 100% sure about at the time.

Thanks,
Kevin

It's been a while since I've had :quotes: crabs :quotes:   (sold my daytona for the neon), but I think they are about the same. I had wanted to powdercoat those black also (Daytona was red).

the crabs are ever so slightly lighter, if i remember correctly... the old TD wheels arent really "light" wheels by any stretch, but they are tougher than elephant leather. a buddy of mine hit a curb head on (dont ask) at 45 mph in his daytona w/ pizzas on it and it bent the subframe/suspension and not the wheels... ruined the tires though.

The crabs weigh about 23lbs/wheel.

Pizza wheels are awesome and I think they look good on your car, should have had them powder-coat the lip in chrome ;) Thats what I had done with mine.

Yeah, I wanted to do that. I'm on a "beer budget" right now because we're having a baby on the 6th of Sept, so it wasn't in the budget.
