Another critically wounded Neon - update

Bad roads and Fullsize van backing on to the road FTL!

The driver of the van was cited for backing onto a roadway/failure to yield. I just couldn't believe he backed out knowing I wasn't stopping. The roads were basically snow/ice covered, and it was dark. I just have to see what happens with his insurance. List price on the parts I could see from a quick going over is $3816.00. Though OEM Dodgeparts.com around $2841.76 shipped. Depending if the PDC wire harness has to be replaced, or if just the mount for the connections and the covers can be installed without replacing the harness. The harness lists for $1180.00  It wouldn't start at the scene, but after it was towed to my home I got the hood open, and found the PDC smashed, the fuel pump relay was smeared like a grease spot, so I swapped it with the horn relay, and she fired up. My getto intake suffered a small crack where the adapter to the TB is but it idles fairly well, so it shouldn't take much to repair that for future use. Most likely if it's totaled I'll buy the salvage and find another Neon. I've got too much in the engine and suspension to let it go for scrap. :( As far as the underside goes it doesn't appear to be harmed, the radiator still holds coolant, altho I didn't check the A/C condenser. At least no one was hurt....

Edited for New Picture hosting site.

Damn! I got upgraded to Picture Post! I haven't heard anything as of yet, but my Mom works for the insurance company that he has, so I'll get the inside scoop when something does happen.
hansken_yo wrote:Lame.... *crosses fingers, Hope its not totaled.
Yeah, it's nothing spectacular, but the part that sucks is if I don't get a rental, which I don't see why I won't, the Cherokee cost about $200+/month to feed. The main reason I got the Neon. I'm hopin' they fix it, I'll keep this updated as I get more info.

Sorry to hear that. :( I would be so pissed! Looks to be totaled to me. Upsets me when people aren't paying attention, specially in really bad road conditions like the ones you pictured.

Theres a sticky thread in the picture section to post your wrecked Neon.

You have full coverage correct?

Nope, well the at fault insurance by rights should if they're damaged, but that usually requires a battle. That's why I always have them tow it to the house. If they don't pay extra they don't go with the car. I just throw the OEM parts in the car. If it needs towed away, whats the point of reinstalling. Unfortunately maintenance stuff like a new motor or trans you can't keep because that's considered "normal maintenance". If you buy the salvage then it's yours, if you get that option... But anything aftermarket, if you have the original parts, they can't make you give them up, they are only paying for a bone stock car. The key is you must have the original parts to replace the aftermarket with. To me untill I sign the title over, possesion is 9/10 of the law. As far as if it is repaired, if you fight them you can get aftermarket stuff replaced, if it was damaged by their insured. they should have to replace what was damaged, but custom one off stuff you may be out of luck.

I have yet to get an adjuster from their insurance to respond, of course they waited 2 days to turn it in to their insurance. Removed my ghetto intake/65mm TB yesterday. Had to pull the upper core support out to get the oem mani on. there isn't enough room to put the stock air box in tho. Can't believe the drop in power, just moving it in the parking lot. Now that the snow has melted off, I noticed the passenger fender sticks out about 1/8" farther than the door, so the unibody is definitely torqued. Hopefully I hear something tomorrow, just glad I have a spare vehicle to drive, I guess I'll send them a rental bill. Right. Meh, I'll definitely get full use of the rental when I get it. Finding a rust free '01-'02 Neon in ohio may take some time. Not sure why the pics don't show on some PC's. Maybe I'll find another hosting service.

Yeah, It's fixable, but the car is prolly only worth $3500 (aprox.) so it will be interesting if it gets repaired or totalled. If I could get what they're selling them at the dealerships around here ($4900) I would really be happy. Not holding my breath. Hell, they still haven't even contacted me. If they want to play hardball, we can play that game too. I've had trouble with this insurance company in the past, and I'm sure they didn't like the results. Batter Up!

After haggling with the other insurance, I went with mine. Unfortunately I'll be getting a salvage title tomorrow. Atleast I got a fair settlement out of it. I'll still prolly need about $1000 more to replace it. Such is life. Dodge Neon 5 speed MTX>Kia Optima 5 speed ATX rental. While the Kia has more "luxuries" I still ain't feelin the quality of the Neon. Hard plastic steering wheel/shifter FTL. I shouldn't complain too much, I could be stuck with a Aveo.

Kaminari FTW! Got it on sale from Custom Auto Trim and Graphics. Got lucky and caught the last day of the sale by a few hours. $359.90 plus $185.00 shipped from California to Ohio seemed fair enough. Would have cost way more for me to pick it up! I think it was the most expensive item I bought, but I had to splurge somewhere! Just got to get some wheels now.
