Yes, its true. Someone keyed my brand new (well 5 month old) hood yesterday. While its not the largest mark in the world, it was still enough to upset me. So here's the story complete with pictures.....

I went to a new Stop & Shop (supermarket) that they are building here in RI to visit an old friend. I talked to him for 30-40 minutes. Mind you this store is closed to the public as its not finished yet. When we were getting ready to leave he and I walked outside and stood under the awning talking for a couple more minutes and saying goodbye.

My car was parked to the right of his Monte SS, and in front of his Monte was a crotch rocket. This fat kid had been whistling at me the entire time I was in there and making comments and I was ignoring him. The fat kid walked right by my car on the angle that this scratch/gouge is at. My friend and I are under the assumption that he is the one who did it. When I walked into the store the hood was spotless, I walked around the front. I ALWAYS stare at my car when I walk to and from it to check for damage. Biggest downfall is the cameras aren't hooked up yet, if they were we would have proof...but because they aren't there is nothing that can be said or done about it.

It is through all the paint into the hood itself. I was suprisingly calm for the situation at hand, just a bit upset. Everyone has always told me "I can't believe no one ever vandalized your car". Well its been spit on, but never has someone gouged it. I know the mark isn't all that large, and I do know it could have been much worse, but its just the premise that you don't vandalize people's cars. No matter how pissed off you may be.

I went right home, took some pictures and swapped the hood back to my CBD CF OEM hood so I could take this one to JRA to be re-painted. Another $125 that I really don't have because I'm still out of work, but it needs to be done. And thats $125 because I'm supplying the paint otherwise it would be more expensive. I have nowhere to paint so I have to pay.

Not to mention Mopar Power Festival is next Sunday and I'm planning on entering him in the show. Jeff at JRA said he can get it done by Thursday for me. I really hope so. The hood went RIGHT to him within hours after it happened.

Again I know its not that large, but the premise that someone actually gouged my hood upsets me. I'm pretty calm.....calmer than I thought I would be. And at least its the hood and not another, more difficult part that would require blending like the rear quarter.

I think I'm done ranting.....this just sucks I spent $850 on paint (paint ONLY) in April, plus the money to paint the new stuff. It was over $1400. We'll just add another $125 to that because someone is a douchebag.

Here is how the car sits right now with my old hood (winter hood) on. Camera phone pictures...I do apologize but its pouring out right now so I can't get much else.

That sux but you can either touch it up with the paint that you used with a tiny brush and then sand it or just throw on a sticker it seems like it will fit well between the features of the hood.
It sux I know I park my OMEGA as far away as I can and when I get out of a particular store there are like 5 cars around it... I got all sorts of dings on the doors from the f**** B*stards...

I cant believe that there are people out there that would dare to even touch or behave like the fat dumb ass that you mentioned...
I mean if you dare touch it then you must think your life is worth a lot less then the value of the car for its owner...

Like I said yesterday, that dude is a real pu**y... I hate people like that. If you have a problem with me, bring it to my face, don't take it out on my car or other property...

I'm thinking of what on a jobsite could even have caused a gouge like that, and I got nothing..

The CF hood is painted flat black to match the car. CF isn't neccessarily my style, nor do I think it would look good with my paint job. I'll edit the above post to show what it looks like now.

GTS: The entire hood needs to be painted again. It will need to be sanded smooth, the black blended and the whole hood re-cleared. Thats the proper way to do it. Sharpies are too shiny, and I'm not doing anything to make the car look ghetto. I love this car.....its a show car I can't skimp on things.

Stickers of what? Damn I wish it was just a sticker that would have saved me some money! Thankfully I kept my hood for winter or I'd be screwed and have to pay for a rental car right about now.

That just doesn't look like a keymark to me though... unless it skipped, normally a key would be thin and one line, ya know?

well this is the reason that i hate people so goddamn much.it seems like no one has respect for people or property anymore.shit i had my 1st gen pissed on while i was in the hardware store.they pissed all over the hood and sides.i mean what the fuck????

jake_tim: I hope its done by then, I spoke with the painter as well and he said no problem. They all have their "toys" and feel for what happened in this situation. They attend shows and races as well and I trust in them that things will be done on time. They're all great people there. No bricks for me....LOL Karma will take care of him, probably with a sand patch around a corner.

Bone-yard: Truth. Not sure what did it. The winter hood doesn't look bad but its not near as aggressive as the other hood. I love my other hood. Plus this ones been through four winters....it doesn't look as good. I'll re-paint this one next. And as much as you meant it as a joke, its probably true. Jealous people.

I want to know why it makes people feel so powerful....attacking a basically inanimate object. People are dumb. My stratus coupe was pissed on, and keyed by my ex. It was done on a 90 something degree night, and then the next day when I went to wash the car didn't understand the smell. My parents found a beer bottle filled with piss sitting on my sunroof and we deduced what happened from there. It took MONTHS to get it out of the belt mouldings (the smell that is)

Those markings look very evenly spaced in the photos. To get right down to the hood surface would have required some force and sharp edges to bite into the paint. Perhaps a cutting blade of some kind... plenty of those on a construction site.

Mine is only a daily driver and has its share of dings on the original paint after being on the road since 2001; however, it still irritates me to no end to find new marks on it.

I irritate everyone who drives with me by parking in the sparsely populated outer edges of parking lots. The rhetoric typically goes like this: "Why the fuck are you parking way out here? There is a spot right beside the door WAY over there!!!".

There is always someone around waiting to deface stuff given the opportunity. Some just don't think and yet others premeditate it.

Now I'm irritated!

To the OP. That sucks about what happened though. I wouldn't be too happy either. You need a daily driver. I have so many dings on my car that I need to take care of. Glad its a silver car and not as noticeable.

Paul: It is a very strange marking indeed, and its pretty deep into the hood to be just a graze as you stated. I park way out in the boonies as well. Walking is good for you. Even when I was on my crutches for 12 weeks I still parked WAY out to save the car. Hopping around on those was good exercise too LOL. At least I'm not the only one peeved by this!

MyNeonSaysHi: It does but its getting fixed. He'll be better before you know it. I do need a DD. But I just don't have the cash for one right now. I have one dent the size of a pen point on my car. That is it. My car has been dent free for his 103k

No matter how much you may hate someone or want to beat thier ass, you DO NOT go after thier car. I had an ex girlfriend hold a key to my paint once before, and that totally flamed me up, but luckily she didnt scratch it and pulled off. Lucky her she's a female, cause I won't harm a female physically in any way or form.

I just don't understand how this could make someone feel good about themselves? I've had people wrong me in many ways, but never would I attack their car over it....never! Fucking pisses me off.

I probably would have smacked her regardless of whether or not she was a female if she keyed my car. Then again I'm a chick so it may be different but I have no tolerance for ignorance and assholes. They drive me insane.

It would have been hard, but I agree with Dan... I won't hit a woman no matter what she's doing. Well, perhaps if she has a gun to my head I would, but if she's threatening to key my car I'm not gonna hit her or anything like that.
