I've rediscovered 1st gen love...

After a long serach for a clean 1st gen to relieve the SRT of daily/winter duty, I picked this creampuff up last week.

Not bad for $1000

I painted the roof last night due to a lack of clearcoat (imagine that). Those are water drops on it, I think it turned out pretty good for a total investment of $13 for primer, paint, and sandpaper.

The driver's mat has seen better days, but the carpet is pretty mint. I'll be keeping an eye out for some nice OEM mats.

I thought this was a pretty gangster ass window sticker, so it's staying.

Finally, my two together, in sweet Neon harmony.....

I've still got some cleaning up to do on it, but I'm thrilled with it. Everything works as it should, except for the cruise control, which I may look into. I have maintenance logs, service reciepts, and all kinds of other goodies dating back to its purchase on June 29, 1994. I even have the airbag warning stickers, still on their backing paper! It just rolled over 146K and has had the headgasket, timing belt, and water pump done. It also has brand new tires, brakes, all new A/C components, and a newer clutch, among other things. I haven't been through a whole tank yet, but after finishing off the 3/4 tank that was in it when I bought it, it got 35 MPG. I'm hoping to be able to get it well into the 40's.

Some stuff on the way right now:

-Roof rack with hardware (I'm still debating on this)
-Super clean OEM headlights
-Brand new Mopar headlight gaskets
-Black Booger Bushings
-Driver's side tail (Mine has a slight crack, allows moisture in)
-ATX throttle body
-Semi-gloss black 'Cuda stripes

Stuff that will be done ASAP:

-Spray foglights and/or front turns with yellow stained glass paint
-Get the matching front mud flaps (otherwise take the rears off)
-Paint upper window moldings and windshield wiper arms
-Replace front door speakers (Has a Pioneer MP3 player and Boston Acoustic speakers in the rear deck, with blown stockers in the doors, lol)
-DOHC muffler

All comments/thoughts/suggestions/threats to steal it are welcome.

^^craigslist my friend, craigslist! I found this one about an hour away, and the guy ended up have a BIG horsepower turboed '01 R/T in the garage!

Thanks for the kind words. I am absolutely thrilled with this thing. It runs and drives amazing and gets awesome gas milage.

What are everyones thoughts on the roof rack? It's the factory rack, and I plan on cleaning it up and hitting it with some black Krylon fusion before throwing it on. I think I may have to remove the rear mud flaps soon too, I'm having no luck finding the matching fronts...

Nice purchase, lmao, dumb idea time by me, but you could get the front mudflaps back on, put the roof rack on, put some offroad lights on the roof rack or build a light bar for the front and have a little wanna be rally car. There is a Geo Metro running around where I live done up like that and painted camo, I must say its a good lookin little bean counter car.

I don't have the front mud flaps, but I'm trying desperately to find some. The roof rack is on it's way, so it may be on next week. As for the off road lights, no thanks. I also have clean, new looking OEM headlights in the mail and those, along with the fogs after I wetsand them, will be plenty for me.

I payed twice that for my E-green 4lug and it was in way worse shape. The dupli-color emereld green is pretty close even though it isnt listed as a neon color.

Wow, that car is a twin for one that my friend got a year ago from NY. Same color, same condition, even the same wheels! Only difference is he has a taupe interior. Otherwise I would think he sold it

Nice find

Good luck on that. I looked everywhere for some before I traded my '95 for my first 2GN and gave up. Car really looks great and makes me very nostalgic for my old 1GN.

The ghetto fix is to flip a passanger side mat around and use it, it fits perfect.

nice choice...I've been using my 98 r/t for winter duties and she has done very well. I bought mine for 500 and she is still going strong.

A white 1gn goes better with a blue SRT though...just putting that out there.

Holy cow, this thing's getting more attention here than the .org and even 1gn, lol.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm having a blast cruising around in this thing! I did hop in the SRT last night though and cruised around. As usual, the smile never left my face.

There's a lot of stuff on the way for it right now, so due to the attention it's getting, I suppose I'll have to post some new pics once it's cleaned up a little more.

I didn't see it Sean, but he told me his .org screen name (something neonrt2001 maybe?) and I believe I remember the car being black with black Focal F5's, a flat black cowl hood, and black projectors with HIDs back in the day...

It was in Canal Winchester, around a mile away from Bob McDorman Chevrolet.

Yes sir, Matt was his name. Cool guy, he just bought a yellow '02 WRX for a daily, so he had to sell the 1st gen.
