For those that don't know my winter setup is the Spike Spiders, and some other do know but wanted some more info on them other than their ultimate coolness.

These are in place of chains or studded tires and really work extremely well.

So overall I drive around with these metal adapter plates through out the winter.


When things get hairy I put the spikes on with a locking plate which connects into the metal plate attached to special lug nuts:




and what it looks like when I need them on.



These literally take minutes to put on and off... like 1 minute to install both sides and 2 minutes to remove. And there is just enough room even with Audry being as low as she is.... just enough.

I highly recommend these for anyone that drives in the snow a lot, they are worth the money.

Wow I have never seen that before. Do they make a lot of noise when you hit a place on the road without snow? Thank God for GA winters. We freak out when there is any more than 2 inches on the ground...and that is maybe once a year, haha.

yeah, they sound like a bunch of tap dancers when your on pavement, but that's when you pull over and spend 2 minutes to remove them and be on your merry way

Pretty neat! I wouldn't run them though. They scare me....plus we don't get too much snow where I'd need them. Snow tires FTW!

I would rock those if I lived in Colorado or something. We get a ton of snow but not near enough for these puppies.

Burnouts are a negative. These aren't meant to be driven on dry or bare pavement. it can actually damage them if you do it for too long.

I got them for when I was going to school on the other side of the mountains (also known as Eastern Washington ). These are about 10 years old now... Anyway, I would travel across the mountain passes here frequently. Call me crazy, but driving in the snow is fun (when idiots are not around... yeah... it does happen every so often).

I dunno what a set of snow tires and wheels cost, but it can't be much different from how much these cost.

Never heard of seen of those either before. PRetty cool. I bet they work well in deep snow.

lol same here in Texas. My parents are from New York and whenever people drive like 2 miles an hour when it rains or snows he yells at them and says, "COME ON! IT'S NOT LIKE FIRE'S FALLING FROM THE SKY!" hehehe

lol, with those installed it makes your car look like a tank. that, or a car from the game twisted metal. now all you need to do is attach spikes pointing outward in order to drive the idiots who don't know how to drive in snow off the road.

we have lots of snow here, even on the east coast of canada. not as much as central or western canada, but enough that we definitely need snow tires. some of you guys wouldnt even know what to do with yourselves if you got 30 cms (12 inches) or more of snow in one night. that's how we get our snow out east, all at once, then it melts. at least that's the trend for the past couple years...

My only complaint is this. Last night we got a dusting and freezing rain. You couldnt run these, because there wasnt enough snow on the ground, but the roads were very slippery.Even slippery with snow tires. I do alot of driving through Detroit neighborhoods. After we get 6-12" of snow the streets dont get plowed for days. With snow tires it goes through no problem. Ive driven in a foot of snow without issue. Maybe if I lived farther north I would consider them, but then again I would probably have a four wheel drive vehicle. It is a pretty cool concept though. I would really like to try them out ay least once.

Your pretty much screwed for Ice with any situation. You could use these for a limited period on thin sheets of ice, longer periods on thicker sheets or compacted snow or ice. Pretty much, like chains, you don't want to use them on bare pavement.

In situations with ice, i'll go about my business without them until I get stuck somewhere. If I get stuck, spend the short time it takes to put them on, get on my way, and at the next good clearing take them off again. Heavy snow these things are a fuckin dream!

Where did you get these? I wonder if they are illegal like chains because they tear up the road, but they would really help in these Buffalo winters lol.
