Shouldn't it have been painted before it went on the car?

You should go with the rusted out VW look. I think your car could pull it off.

Who the hell charges $500 to re-finish a factory primed hood? That's stupid as hell! You can have it painted MUCH cheaper than that...try $150.

Lowest quote I got is from Maaco - $280. But their paint sucks!
Other places I checked charge between $450-$850.

I rusted my buddys vw hood, battery acid works the best. We tried so many things, even soaked it in gas and lit in on fire.

I don't believe that any body shop would tell you $850 to paint a hood. Nor do I believe they would tell you $450 to paint a hood, unless they really didn't want to do it and wanted you to go away. It takes an hour or so to prep it and a couple hours to paint it plus materials. No more than $200 from anywhere.

That's probably the price on the East Side of the country. I've checked MANY places around and believe me it is more than $200 to paint a hood here.

Yeah because it's so cheap to do things over here. Not really. That price seems down right rediculous.

 Riiiiiiiiiiiiight cause we're cheap fucks over here? No...not really. You're either lying through your teeth or just making up a story to validate that you don't want to paint the hood. No body shop would EVER charge that much to paint a hood one solid color ESPECIALLY in this economy when they are starving for work.

Hmm it looks okay primered like that. Kinda weird being slightly off color from your car though. Horray for new hoods though!
