I hope you have better luck with your chosen body shop than I had with mine!

It's a story that's a year and a half in the making, so I'll just give you the shortened version here...

July of 08 I hit a pole. Insurance towed the car to a body shop who half assed the car. (got it back and the bumper didn't line up properly, frame wasn't pulled enough, HUGE gap between the bumper and headlight) Took it back there 7 times over the course of the next few months, and finally told insurance I wanted to take it elsewhere. Got approval, took it to another shop who gave insurance a quote to repair it properly. They then said they wouldn't touch another body shop's fuck up. So back to the original shop it went, and FINALLY a couple weeks ago, it was fixed properly.

However, when I dropped it off I was told it would take 3 days to fix properly, and they had the car 2 weeks.

If you want to read the thread, it's all my progress log.

^^I'll have to check that out. So sorry about your troubles, Sean. I have to admit that I am way behind with my reading of progress logs (ducks flying tomatoes). My rental car coverage certainly wouldn't have lasted that long!

I was without hte car for a month the first time around (and had no rental on my insurance) and each return trip was a one day deal, except for this final trip. No worries, it was only switched over to a progress log recently, haha.

As I said tho, I sure hope you have much better luck with your repair!

My mind is working overtime, I keep having awful daydreams about what might happen during the repair process. The possibilty of State Farm making me pay out of pocket for differences between aftermarket and OEM parts has me going crazy as I don't have the cash for this situation but have to protect my car at the same time. angry9:

Wow that really sucks! Im sorry to hear about the SRT. I hope the shop you go through does a quality repair.

However your fortunate that the other driver stuck around. I was recently involved in a hit and run. They damaged my rear bumper and swapped some paint but its not bad. I was just in disbelief that the guy drove off. I tried to catch him but by the time I turned around and got through traffic he was gone.

^^Wow, that stinks. The guy who hit me is a neighbor whose (rented) house is within viewing distance of my house. I had met him the prior Saturday when I was going door-to-door getting residents to sign a ballot to add a Rental Cap provision to our association covenant. If the provision had been passed the last time that it came to a vote, he wouldn't have been living here! :cussing:

I'm at a hospital today for my mother's surgery so I won't be able to check my answering machine for any calls from State Farm or the body shop. I am hoping that the shop will call me in tomorrow for a look-see at the estimate and the possibility of my taking some pics to share with y'all.

Thanks, I appreciate that. The physical therapist just left the room a few minutes ago so things are looking pretty good. This is the first time that I've used a laptop and the first time for WiFi as well. A day of firsts!

Just spoke with the claims representative at State Farm and, in her opinion, I might be the at-fault in this situation. I wholeheartedly disagree but she said that I failed to give the right of way. My street is like a hand with fingers (or tree with branches, pick your metaphor)- no signage of any kind (stop, yield, etc.) so I don't agree with her at all. I'm waiting to see what will happen to my premium at renewal time in June. :aargh:

The body shop is supposed to email pictures to me sometime today and I will post them ASAP.

The claims rep called again just as I was hitting "enter" on that last post. I'm going to have to be silent about my insurance for a while- hope that everyone understands.

For sure. Do whatever you gotta do to come out, ontop I guess you can call it, but not really.

We can get the details later. Good luck.

No police report FTL, even tho it helps, they would still determine your "percentage of fault."

This is how I got screwed. I was not cited, not at fault per the state, but the insurance board determined I was 5% at fault. Thus the loss $ paid to me was reduced by 5%.

My car was hit much harder than that, and the "frame" held up fine.
A full size Ford cargo van backed out on an icy road about 30 feet in front of me. I hit it behind the rear tire, and knocked it off the other side of the road. The neon basically stopped in it's tracks.

At least you are able to be with your mother, taking care of the important things. :D

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about the lack of a police report but the sherriff's deputy that responded to my 911 call wouldn't give us one since there were no injuries and the vehicles "appeared" drivable. My agent's office said that I might get a mailed form from the BMV about proof of insurance and to just bring it to the office for electronic filing if I do get one.

UPDATE: Estimate is about $3,700. Lower frame damage. Hood, headlight, driver's-side fog light surround, bumper (and its components) all to be replaced.

Pics later on today (Wednesday).

Well, no pics today. :cussing: The body shop said that their pic file is "corrupted" so they couldn't email them to me. I'm going to go there in the morning and take a look. I hope that I don't pass out when I see my car in pieces. :sad10:

I had hoped to avoid hood replacement but was told that the striker was damaged and that is something that can't be repaired. I will miss the VIN sticker on the hood- now anyone will be able to tell that I have had damage. :banghead:

The claims rep did agree with me about the reuse of rhe driver's side headlight bulb (original from the factory- I've never replaced them) and the plastic "2.4L Turbo" insert for the hood scoop so at least some on the front end will be faithful.

Here is the bodyshop website, in case anyone is interested.

They make accidents "Unhappen" they speak great english there, wow. Best of luck :( Most of the stickers can be purchased (the vacuum diagram one, etc) so you could put them back where they were. Ask them for your old parts back. Make the hood into a headboard like I did with mine
