Sister's new wheels

So, my sister drives my 2004 R/T that I went through hell to acquire.
Its wheels were in horrible shape - some sort of cheap knock off brand, me thinks. The tires were all kinds of bassackwards.
Two had the same low profile tires as each other. Another had a different branded lp tire. And another had a regular sized tire.
It's amazing they made it to and from California. Twice.
While getting her oil changed last weekend, the mechanic told her she needed new wheels, badly(duh). And that she should take it to some small tire place to get new ones, because they'll give her a good deal.
Her boyfriend was with her. So this should have ended well...
Somehow, the tire place talked her into a set of 18" chrome steel fatty wheels, with retread tires, for $800. She thought it was a good deal, and loved the hideous tribal spokes. Her boyfriend didn't think so, but because he knew she really wanted them, and wanted to see her happy, he kept his mouth shut.
She left there after giving them a $300 deposit. They didn't have correct tires for her, so she was going to come back after they ordered 'em.
Thank god, because if she'd driven out of the shop with those ugly ass ghetto things on her car, I would have shot someone. And then killed her.
She wanted to make an "adult decision".
Funny. I didn't think an impulsive decision was an "adult decision".
I went to the shop the following day and got half of her deposit back. There were signs all over the office that said "NO CASH REFUNDS" so i'm lucky I even got half.
I did some searching on Craigslist, and found a set of stock Scion TC wheels and tires for $240. Minor curb rash, and excellent tires.
I've been busy with work all week, so her boyfriend and his father put them on for me.
They needed special lugs, and a small spacer. But they look so much better than what she had, and what she ALMOST had.
Before:
After:
Please, if you're in a relationship, communicate with your partner. Don't support their stupid decisions, just because you want them to be happy. Otherwise girls will try to put 18" chrome wheels on a Neon >.<
Ask your big brother for help next time.[/img]

how about you stop using the word "beaner"?

Post up pics of what said wheels looked like. Tribal design spokes.....

The TC wheels look good, car sits high though. And I wouldn't have known what "beaner" was in reference to had you not posted it dblsg, never heard it before.

It has been around a while. Prolly in relation to what consist of a main food staple. Kind of the same way "rice" got started.
Except rice in the beginning was aimed more at Japanese cars/motor cycles/mods to them, than towards the people. "Beaner" is more directed at the people. That is where the difference lies.
So yeah, try to watch how you put names on what you are relating to, even if you didn't think of it in that sense. We are multi racial/national site, so try to respect other cultures/races.

its mostly a word used around young teens.
i heard it alot when i was in highschool and now i dont hear it anymore.
The wheels look good man.i cant believe there was 3 different tire sizes on that car. i can just imagine how it rode on the street.a minor height drop and it would look better.

It's probably "regional slang" .... I doubt if you have much of a hispanic population in Rhode Island. Seldom used here in New Orleans either

Usage is way older than that- Cheech & Chong's "Mr. Stedanko" (spelling?) routine from when I was in high school.
I'm with LSP- pics of the wheels that you didn't like?

OK here's my input. First the wheels. I wish there were pics of the "tribal" wheels to compare but there's not, oh well. As for the new wheels, they look ALOT like the old wheels to me. They do look good. From what you said about the boyfriend, "boy" seems to be accurate. He needed to man up and tell her his opinion and hesitation on the deal. In regards to the term beaner, there are a couple different meanings I've heard. 1) in reference to there seeming to be beans in so many hispanic foods. 2) Hispanics were/are often used for harvesting crops on farms. I guess the farmers felt silly if they called them Cornies, Wheaters, etc etc etc. In either case it is meant in a degrading way and I cringe when I hear the term used. Yes we are in america, yes we do have freedom of speech, BUT it is best to treat others how you would want to be treated. Being in Phoenix talk like that could get you seriously injured or even worse. Karma can be a real biaaatch. Ok, ok, I'm stepping down from my soapbox. I thank you for your time.

Tires (at least the ones I can see) are on backwards, they appear to be directional, and unless she drives the majority of the time in reverse, need to be changed around asap!

Let's change the title of this thread to beaner talk!
JK, anyway, I do think the TC wheels look a lot like the original wheels, but nicer. I wanna see pics of these tribal chromies

I always enjoy reading your posts. They always seem well thought out and like something I actually care to read as opposed to the monotonous, Nice!

Actually...we have a large hispanic population here in urban areas.

Would it make any of you feel better if I changed "beaner" to "ricer"?
It's still a derogatory term, just directed at a different group of people. I could have used the word "ghetto" but either way, it puts an image of the type of person in your head.
I mean no racial harm by the term. It's a common term(in AZ at least) for wheels like...
or...
Infact, they kind of looked like the first picture
LilSparkPlug: The only picture I have of 'em was in a text message on my phone. And I just realized I deleted it
occasional demons: Of course. Wasn't my intent to get people's arms up in the air about it. Just...used it how it's generally used. It has been edited though.
Neon4life: Look really close at the before pictures. You can see the front right tire is the regular one. The rear right tire is like a rubber band compared to it
Canada: Thanks!

Never noticed that. I'll rotate 'em when I rotate my own
sidepipe87: No way i'm getting those pictures, now. >.< They died along with my SD card. I knew I should have made backups. And thank you! :3
For those interested, the wheels very much looked like...

I believe they were 7 spokes though.

To keep this thread off topic, "beaner" is extremely common here. Extremely.

i can vouch for FAC3L3SS on this. It's very common and mexican people get pissed if you call em that. Its almost the equivalent of saying the "n" word to a black person

Ricer has become pretty much non ethnic, more towards a style, than a race.
DetergentCandy wrote:It's still a derogatory term, just directed at a different group of people. I could have used the word "ghetto"
But you did.
DetergentCandy wrote:Thank god, because if she'd driven out of the shop with those ugly ass ghetto things on her car, I would have shot someone. And then killed her.
I know you didn't intentionally mean to offend anyone, but you did.
Being offended over someone calling you a ricer, because of what's on your car is not on the same level as being referred to as "xxxx" because of your ethnic background. If it is, then in that matter, you better leave your car in the garage, never to be seen again. You make a choice to become a ricer. You have no choice as to who brings you into this world.
But enough this part of the discussion.
There should be arrows on the tires that show which direction they should be turning. Getting that right will be far more important to your sister, than making style choices for her.

This thread has deteriorated into a discussion about political correctness.
I thought the original post was someone "ripping off " his sister with "tasteless" wheels, and the boyfriend being a wimp.
We have a lot of "pimped out" cars in the greater New Orleans area. Poor taste cuts across all ethnic groups here, even "WASP's" like me.
Political correctness is a theory advanced by the liberal media, that it is entirely possible
to pick up a turd by the clean end.

You're a WASP?! Next time you try to prove a point, put it in your own words and don't copy/paste from FoxNews.

Amen to that! I was hoping you'd figure out something was a little "off" with that wing you put on all your cars, and those 15" American Ricing wheels

Political Correctness and racist references are two different things.
The forum might tolerate not being PC, but it will not tolerate racist comments /end of this discuusion. MEOW!

Well then, Mr. Dauterive, to keep this thread ON topic....now that you've gotten her some solid wheels and tires, rotate them so they are safe to drive on. Did you end up using those "countersunk" lug nuts or whatever?

I never said I modded my cars tastefully

but if you're driving a 2003 Neon SXT, you wouldn't be able to keep up with the 99 Neon R/T with an "enhanced " 2.0 DOHC engine.

Did you use the OEM toyota lugnuts? Thoes wheels wont accept a normal acorn seat lug nut. They MUST use a shank style lug.
Acorn:
Toyota shank lugs:
Heres the difference on their contact area:

Thanks for the lug nut lesson with pics ^^^^
I did not realize there was such a difference in lugnuts. I feel so well informed now. Acorns, and Mag Seats and Balls, Oh My. ----Obvious Wizard of Oz reference,,,,,,,lol
And Boobie to notice the direction of the treads on the tires being wrong I salute you for your OCD, I am also blessed with that gift. Occasional, thanks for the lesson on tire direction.

I don't think much of PC is myself. However, Racism is a bad thing, and should not be accepted. Get rid of your ugly 15's on the SRT.

We're in agreement on the important issue (racism).
You don't have to drive your car with 15" wheels, but you should be aware of a few things. When I enter the car in car shows, I reinstall the original SRT wheels.
I have won awards in Mopar car shows in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Not all of the cars are Neons.
The original wheels were 17x6 with BFGoodrich 205/50-17 g-force Sport tires. American Racing Estrella wheels are 15x7, a wider rim gives better steering response.
The tires are Fuzion Zri 205/55-15 tires which gives better grip in the turns, and the car sits lower to the ground, because the outside diameter is reduced.
Oversized wheels and "broken springs" won't make an econobox any faster, nor will it improve its handlng.
