Car got backed into today...

Post by red2.4srt » Thu Jul 01, 2010 3:02 pm

A customer backed into my car at my employer today. I know it was them, but there's no proof, and I didn't see anything happen... Of course they're denying everything completely. Looks like this could get hairy...

It's no coincidence that the line on the tire matches up with the dent, they pushed into the tire too. It was a Chevy 3500 Express van with a geriatric idiot behind the wheel.

Yeah look for any damage on their vehicle if you can access it. good luck. that is unfortunate. I try to park far away as much as possible but there is only so much we can do because some people out there dont care about cars like we do and end up being careless.

If they really did it you need the tag number and then file a hit and run case.

I would file a hit and run as well. At least the damage isn't "too" bad but it will still require a replacement fender + paint or a repair + paint and they should be held accountable.

looks like it's actually the rear of the car LSP (note brake dust shield) , so it would need a new quarter panel skin, not just a fender

It is the rear of the car, and it smashed the body line of the fender in the face. I'm pissed and now I got bitched at by my boss for personally contacting the company who I know is responsible. He said they're pissed because I was accusing them. Of course I didn't say it's all your fault, but when their van was the only one moving in the parking lot and by my car nonetheless, it certainly narrows things down a tick. I'll keep you guys updated! I wouldn't have been as pissed if the driver wouldve manned up and said he hit it...

Did you read the responses to this thread?

If they didn't do anything about it then you need to file a hit and run with the police department. In the end there is minimal proof as there are probably no witnesses. You might as well see how much it will cost to fix and see what your deductible for a hit and run is.

I honestly didn't look at it that closely, probably should've . That could be fixed without replacing the quarter.

A police report was filed immediately after I found out about it being hit. Sorry I neglected to mention that. I knew I needed to do that to cover my ass. ;)

CrystalMarie, it did crack the paint down to bare metal in a spot, so paintless isn't an option. :(

Wow, that's terrible about your car. Let's hope it has a speedy recovery.

My boss just called me and said that i'm responsible for repairing the damages. Our company won't cover it, and although he kinda knows it was our customer who did it, we cannot prove it. He's more upset that I called the customer and got them fired up than he is about my car getting hit. : /

Must be a frequent customer?

Really sorry to hear man, I would be so pissed if I were in your shoes. I am always leary on how I park next to. I try to park in areas with the least amount of traffic if I can.

No security cameras anywhere?

The customer is a national account, so piss on me I guess. LOL

The car was just off the security camera, but you can see the shadows from the van backing up towards the car. (not enough evidence apparently)

One of my companies drivers saw him backing up towards my car, but didn't see him hit it, as he was busy with something. I'm just dejected that I have to pay for someone elses negligence.

I'd get it to a shop and see what they think. Pictures can only get you so far. Talk to someone who knows what they are doing.

Your company dosen't have to cover it. It should be the driver's companies insurance company that should do it. Call your insurance company and let them know what happened.

Good idea.

Now, if you give your Insurance company the OTHER guy's company number / information, they could do the 'leg work' for you.....

Then, when your boss calls to yell at you because the 'other' company called to yell at him, then you can tell your boss it's not you.... It's your insurance company that's calling, heh heh. :)
