2010 Modern Performance Meet (tons of pics)

The meet started at 12 noon. We probably had about 70 some cars there. The majority were SRTs. Probably about 6 Calibers, 6 1gn were there, 3-4 Cobalts, 2 PTs, 2 vipers or 3 if you count the truck, CTS-V, an evo, a scooby, and a few random others.

They had a Former Chrysler engineer come and do a talk on the T850 trans's failures stuff. He had a WRC trans with him there. The guy was really cool he said he use to race an NA SOHC 2.4 that was putting down 238HP to the wheels! DAMN.

He straight up stated that the reason dodge went to ATF in the neon manuals was to cut the extra cost of running a different fluid in production. He said anyone that uses owns one should swap out to an oil with ZDDP immediately. He recommended Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40. He also stated that the 3-4 shift arm in the T850 transmission breakage is due to shifter not having rod breaks. He recommended MadDogs's (Chuck Gregory's) STS due to this eliminating that.

z3roneo, neonOn19s and saberSoul showed up too! Here's a few pics of my car and Nate's. The multi-colored masterpiece was hiding in a back alley :-P can't wait till she gets painted!

It was a good time. If you wanted to see a world engine, I'd've popped the hood on mine. The plain, white Caliber SXT next to the black one up there is mine. :) Nathan's car is sweet in person. He was the only turbo'd 2.0L there that I saw, so many people were interested in looking at it, the staff asked him to move his car from the side lot to the main lot. The former Chrysler engineer that was there had some really cool things to say. He ended up showing how to service your T850 transmissions without having to pull the housing off the engine. Seeing all those SRT-4's (Neons and Calibers) made me wish I had one. :(

The red Road Runner shirt again? LOL! Hope someone got the humor.
Ed can rebuild and upgrade your trans too. He has boxes and totes of parts to last for a few years yet. Need a WRC trans? There might be another good input shaft left out there but once they're gone he won't get more of them.

That's Ed Peter's....former Chrysler Engineer...
He knows everything there is to know about a Neon. There's actual educational video's available for purchase on the ORG from when he did a Neon meet years ago. He covers just about everything there is to know about our cars.
Great pics, looks like it was a good time

Yeah, I wasn't really feeling the green on red action.

SlvrACR - I would def switch asap. Its funny that the car next to the ACR commemerative actually had the BBS 16s on.
Jeff - He's a really cool guy. Kept ragging on me for being an electrical engineer lol. He was pushing your bushings too
Fuzzy- Its funny, I don't think they actually touch the turn tables the whole time.
Teej- Check out that linked thread. These are all the pics that I took though.
r/tguy02 - Its Bitts car from SRTforums. I think he's a mod there. I saw those too, not sure if its N02 or alchy.
Chris - Ed's a really cool guy. I was impressed that he knew my bent rod was from hydrolocking 1sec after looking at it. He showed it off during his seminar too.
Anthony, thanks man. It was hot as balls and sunny so I didn't even bother messing with any settings. Point, shoot, drink water lol.

They did actually touch the turntables, or at least I saw the blond do it before I left. It was way too hot and I ended up with a bit of a sunburn on my arms and the back of my neck.

From what Ed said, yes. The ATF that Chrysler puts in has friction modifiers, which are organic and can rot. When it rots, it starts to tear apart the few non-metal parts in the transmission which can plug holes in your input and output shafts, preventing proper lubrication. He said that 10W40 has the same weight as ATF so it won't affect performance of the transmission or lubrication. The Mobil 1 High Mileage was the only oil that he could get confirmation on the amount of zinc DDP in the oil (1600 parts per million). Zinc DDP helps to prevent shear, so helps prolong the life of your manual transmission. Apparently the government mandated that oil companies stop putting as much ZDDP (down to around 300-400 parts per million at most) in most of their oils because it's THOUGHT that it can cause a catalytic converter to fail after 200,000 miles. He also recommended it over Royal Purple because Royal Purple didn't have a Spectrographic Analyzer to make sure that each batch of oil was as close as possible to the next.

When you add those pesky little bottles of Mopar Friction Modifier, THAT'S when you really start to cause problems. The friction modifier was a really bad guess by someone/some group at Chrysler thinking it would help the Quaife diff to stop "shuddering". Bad guess and not approved or advised by engineering at NVG when they heard about it. Yes, the linings on the synchros will come off and wreck havoc in the trans. Find someone that has put 50-60,000+ miles on a T850 trans with stock fluid and friction modifier. Drain it, look at it and smell it. You won't like the smell.

He did say that, too. He said when the shuddering was reported, it was a rear wheel drive engineer that got the report and told them to add it.

It was a great turnout, and it was good meeting you guys out there. Sucks Chad left after a couple of hours. I think we should set up another meet for the areas at a central location this time in the fall where its not 100 degrees in the shade.

Sorry dude! I posted it up in the Texas section. Yeah, I was pretty burned by 2pm, and exhausted. The 2.5hr home w/o AC didn't help much lol.

Another meetup in the fall sounds great. We should find somewhere scenic to grab some pics!

does this relate to 4 Speed Auto Trans as well? mate I could ask this guy a million questions
