Pics of the wifes 01 R/T....

Post by dieseldak » Sat Aug 28, 2010 7:55 pm

Hi everyone, kinda new to the site. Been using it for getting parts and such but figured id make a post or 2, lol.

I picked up a 2001 Neon R/T for the wife about a month ago for $300 with a blown motor(timing belt let go). I figured I could throw it together for her pretty cheap and she would have a better daily drive than her Focus........When I got the car there was a Romanian flag painted on the sides of the hood, the bumpers were pretty banged up, the muffler had a huge hole in it, the fogs were destroyed, the drivers headlight was cracked and help together with duct tape, the door and fender were all banged up.........needless to say she was rough.

It had lots of potential though, fully loaded, all leather(even the center console) taction control, 4 disc CD, everything.........

I put a weeks worth of work into it and did the following......
-Mopar Performance SCCA IT Crate Motor(only paid $200 for it :) )
-AEM Tru-Time Cam Gear
-AEM Intake
-MPX 60mm Throttle Body
-MSD Wires
-PT Cruiser Clutch
-Booger Bushings
-EBC Slotted Rotors
-EBC Yellow Pads
-Dynomax Exhaust(Camaro muffler with 2 90 bends and some Summit 3" tips)
-Inovative Motorsports Wideband in a SRT-4 pod
-Cyberdyne Oil PSI gauge in a SRT-4 pod
-SRT-4 Shifter and boot
-SRT-4 Pedals
-Yukon Denali Compass/Temp mirror
-RAZ Radio
-Changed all of the engine caps from yellow to black(except for the washer fluid, cant find one that fits....yet)
-New Headlights
-New door
-New fender
-Painted the wheels black and added a red lip
-Repainted the hood where there was the romainian flag and added a red pin stripe to match the wheels
-Painted the spoiler to match the hood
-added the "Home Depot" front lip(I know its ghetto but I like it...)
-Modded the cluster, HVAC and Radio to illuminate red to match the other gauges

I would still like to paint the whole car White but that will be after the Winter if its still around by then....I have less than $1200 in the whole car and id like to keep it that way if at all possible, lol.

Thanks for the compliments guys, she loves the car and its nice to have her in a Mopar again.....

The mirror is VERY easy to do, I have one in every car I own. Just go to the local u pull yard and grab the mirror with about 8 inches of the harness and the sensor from the front of the vehicle. Just give the mirror power and ground and then run the 2 wires from the mirror to the sensor................it is ridiculously simple and a real nice touch to any interior.

im 100% sure we don't have them here in the Netherlands. If you can arrange them, please, let me know!!!! I will buy up to 10 sets if you can get your hands on them :)

Here is a basic run down of what it is, they were around $3000 new, I got mine for $200 and it was still new sitting on a motor stand oiled and rotated for 6 years.................It goes alright but its still no where close to a boosted 2.4L, if anything ever goes wrong with it I will SRT swap the car.

The thing that really sold me on the motor was that it was built by Cummins.......and as you may be able to tell from the name and my truck, I love Cummins.

Built specifically to meet Sports Car Club of America Improved Touring specifications.
· Remanufactured short block with new cylinder head
· New camshaft, valve train, driver belt, oil pump
· New bearings blueprinted to .0015" clearance
· Intake and exhaust ports matched to manifold templates (included) 1" into ports
· New .020" oversize pistons and rings
· Cylinder head milled .025"
· EGR ports blocked off
· 160 hp and 152 ft. lbs. torque
· Windage tray
· Pressure tested
· Does not include intake, exhaust manifolds or flywheel

lol, your car was the inspiration for this one, the reason I painted the wheels black with the red lip, and added the front lip......

was too busy vomiting from the brush marks to take any :)

I should have taken some before pics though, the car was REALLY rough but with some real good luck in finding parts cheap on Neon Canada and Kijiji I got her done real quick.....

Nice 2001 Neon R/T. I think you can paint the whole body of the car even though you have only less than $1200 on it. :D
