Rare junkyard finds

Post by r/tguy02 » Fri Nov 26, 2010 11:50 am

Made a jy run to harrys u pull on wed and made out with some rare parts. Most of these came off one of two fully loaded LX models that were pretty much complete when we found them. One had the taupe int and the other dark agate.
First up is a trunk carpet
Image

illuminated sunvisors
Image

and the crown jewel a leather wrapped console lid!
Image

not pictured is an underhood lamp I got from the same car and a full leather rear seat w/adjustable headrests my buddy took.
I wished I had more money or I wouldve bought the full leather bux interior the car had.

I grabbed a trunklid carpet at a u-pull-it the other day. They had several. Got 2 locking glovebox latches, an ashtray light, injector cover, and some misc other stuff. They had lighted vanity mirrors that I didn't grab because I didn't want to get the harness out. I will commend you on the leather armrest though... that actually is a pretty rare find.

Yeah they had cubbyhole lights, woodgrain int, all that good stuff but I didn't bring enough money to get everything lol, I have most of that stuff already I just wouldve resold it.

And we didn't have torx... But yep. Local jy has chrome door handles and all that stuff. Leather arm rest is a nice find for sure though.

It was nice because someone else already removed the rear seat so all we had to do was pick it up and go. The front leather seats were damaged from the dumbasses at the yard throwing parts in the front seat

WHAT? :beatstick:

I would like that rear seat. I think that it would be coo to have one like that upholstered in SRT cloth.

Yeah it really was ashame gramps, the original owner took care of that car too, you could tell. If I had kept the rear seat myself you were actually one person I wouldve given it to. But don't worry the rear seat went to a good home. It's going in my buddys 1gn r/t with matching srs leather front seats

I snagged a tan armrest and dyed it but the dye didn't take well, it needs to be re-wrapped. :\

Thanks for thinking of me but at least its going to someone who will appreciate it. It ticks me off when people think of our cars as disposable- they have no clue how hard it is for us to locate the goodies that DCX kept us from having.

Yeah, I would prefer Slate Grey. I do like the SRT cloth but I'll let you in on my fantasy- I want to re-do my interior with a Katzkin Leather setup (using the adjustable headrest '00 or '01 rear seat). :uptosomething:

^ yes the one had one, I even thought that was odd. If you really want it I might be able to get my buddy to pick it up.

funny you mention that since that's what I was thinking of, didn't realize it wasn't holding up so well though.

Really? Let me know what it would be to ship that junk over here. I bought 'oh-shit' handles and I didn't even really realize that I need a headliner with the indentions for them. And also, I don't have a sunroof, so I was like "great... never going to find one".

I think you can get away with the stock headliner; You just need the mounting tabs that go behind it.

ZeroChad wrote:I think you can get away with the stock headliner; You just need the mounting tabs that go behind it.
Ya, I got it all, but I heard that it won't really install and look good unless it's the headliner that's molded for the handles. I would much rather have the headliner that goes with the handles just so it all goes together and fits nicely :)

Underhood lights ??
I am always looking for those..... They're very hard to find, on the later 1st gen and 2nd gen Neons.

In all my years of junkyard hopping, I think I have seen maybe two Neons in the junkyard, with the two-wire underhood light assembly.

It is very common, to see underhood lights on the older 1st gen Neons, but those were the single-wire variety, and won't necessarily "plug into" a newer Neon, not without some modification.

Yeah this is the first one I found on a 2gn. The wiring for it is coiled like a spring so it stretches when you open the hood. I currently have enough underhood switches for all my neons but only 2 of the lamps.

Ah yes, underhood lights. My 1GN had one and I took it for granted until I got my 2GNs- now I really wish that I had one for the SRT.

I'm probably gonna be Junkin my trunk carpet when I get back home from this tour cause I want to mount my fire extinquisher and first aid kit back on the trunk lid like I had in my focus. It's so nice to suspend it and when you open the trunk to get it you don't have anything to move to get at them

I can get you a pic if I have time tonight. There is a slide switch in the black part of the light. It works like a mercury switch. As the hood opens, it slides down to make the electrical contact. Now if you get one from a Jeep, or other vehicle, I am not sure they have that switch inside. I'll have to look at the Cherokee also.

i assure you this one was the factory one off of the neon at the jy, i'll have to get a pic of mine tonight also. So as far as wiring goes, since the 2gn has 2 wires vs the 1gn 1 wire, the second wire is for a ground?

Yes. I have no hood switch, and mine shuts off just fine when the hood is lowered, It doesn't even need to be closed completely, IIRC about a foot away from being shut, it will turn on/off.

I could also check later if the PN's are different between 1gn and newer. The 2gn lights are used on a multitude of newer cars. Just not any neons beyond '00.

Edit: 56021441 $23.75

Shows use from 1998 through 2010, but doesn't specifically list what vehicles. the part that is really hard to get other than a JY is the harness connector that the coiled wire plugs into. I have not found that separate new. All else is still available.

5093198AA $28.32 Under hood lamp 1993 - 1997

This is what the switch is listed as:
SWITCH, Underhood
4707 875AB Security Alarm
5293 096AA with Bracket, Security Alarm
