Totally totalled. The story of FML!!!

Post by bmohr225 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:42 pm

Got this car 2 months ago. It shook all over. Trans fluid never been changed. 135k on her. Ended up replacing all engine mounts/ torque struts. Deep cleaned the interior, put radio and new speakers in it. 2.5'' catback exhaust put on two weeks ago w/ dynomax muffler. Last week the UPS guy brought me my UDP from MP.com that I didn't get the chance to install. Nice K&N filter. Friday night I ordered Tokico Blues w/ Megan Racing lowering springs.

Yesterday morning was my only day off all week, so I took it upon myself to work on my car. First thing in the morning I went out, bought some polish and wax. Got home, removed some minor scratches, washed thoroughly inside and out, polished and waxed. Perfect.

Then I put it up on my jack stands and bypassed the stock trans cooler with an aftermarket one to avoid the dreaded strawberry milkshake of doom and destruction

Picture of car @ 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, 3-13-11. Lookin' sexy.
Image

This morning before work I was on here updating "My Garage" with the upgrades i've done/going to do thus far.

Pictures of car @ 7:15 a.m. on Monday 3-14-11, just 12.5 hours after first picture. T-Boned a Dodge Durango that pulled out in front of me. I was traveling at 50mph upon impact.

:-( 50mph is pretty fast for an impact. How's the neck?

Went to hospital and got a CT scan. I just have a minor concussion and whiplash. I got lucky. Most confusing experience of my life though because I passed out and woke up to someone unbuckling my seat belt amidst a cloud of air bag dust and smoke coming inside from my radiator.

So ...who thinks insurance company will pay it as a totaled wreck? I might turn this thread into a "what should I get" thread :P

I'd say it's almost 100% that it will be totaled.

Post changed. What should I get :P The only bad thing is the mileage, other than that the interior/ exterior looks (looked) good. The only shitty part is that I won't be able to take off and salvage my exhaust.

Thanks everyone.

Got confirmation that the car would be considered totaled as far as the insurance is concerned. I'm pretty sure i'll buy another neon, but this time being a manual is a must. They're the only cars i've ever done any work to, so I figure i'll just stay with them. Can anyone recommend a good source for looking at used cars in my area? Looked on craigslist, didn't find much.

Use searchtempest.com and autotrader. Searchtempest searches all the craigslist in the areas within a certain mile distance you set. It's a really handy tool.

Wow, I am totally floored by your pics. Glad to know that you are still with us but... another Neon that gave its life to save its owner (been there myself, unfortunately).

BTW, the SRT in that ad has to have something seriously wrong with it for what they are asking. Doesn't reality stink? :angry1:

I'd say it is, here's an email response from them that my friend got.
The car it's still available, has 32,699 miles, manual transmission. It's in perfect condition, no engine problems (4 Cylinder, 2.4 L), no accidents/liens/loans. Exterior no scratches, never been repainted, interior no rips/tears/stains, never smoked inside. I have all the car's manuals, 2 spare of keys, clean title, documents. This 2005 Dodge Neon was my son's car, he loved it very much, but he didn't enjoy it...He died in a bike accident 9 months ago and now...I don't need it anymore. It brings very bad memories to me and I want to get rid of it....The price is $2,900.00
Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through eBay's Vehicle Purchase Protection Program. I just need your full name, full shipping address, along with your home/cell # so I can open a case (with no further obligation or fees). eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need.
We hope to hear soon from you.
Sorry about the car :( at least you're okay.

I got the same exact response from an email. I googled the VIN and apparently this "couple" goes under a few different names. Oh well, I figured. I've been looking at available MTX neons around here, and it's slim pickins :(

I almost had an incident like you just about 20 minutes ago as i was headed home from work. Only my light just turned green and he was haulin ass while on the cellphone not paying attention. It would've been me in my neon and a Chevy 2500 HD hittin a reg cab Dodge Ram.

It happens so fast ya don't even know it's happening! Today I went and ran some errands in my girl's 96 Plymouth Neon. First time I've ever doubted my driving. This accident really screwed with my mind. I had a dream last night about the anatomical effects of my accident. To say the least, the crash test dummies were involved.

But hey everyone check this shit out.

i got slammed hard in my first neon. I got nailed head on, i was doing 60 kmh, the asshole in the mustang that nailed me was doing 100 kmh, we were in my lane, he failed at a lane change ( EPIC FAIL ) and smashed into me.

i woke up laying in another car , others had extracted me from my car through my windshield for fear the car would ignite. I broke my back, left rib cage ( all of em ) and my left wrist. i walked within three months, took me almost 6 months to get the balls to drive again, and it was months after that before i would drive at night. I know what you mean about the drivers fear. it'll go away, but it definitly will stay for a while.

This happened in 2000, on my dads birthday

now i own a 2000 neon, why , My 96 saved my life.

Glad to hear your ok, hope you get back in another neon.

As long as you have the exhaust you took off, you should be able to remove your set up. Same goes for the head unit/speakers. If you have the receipts for the K&N and cooler, your/their insurance should also reimburse you for those too. The torque stuts/mounts unfortunately would be considered maintenance items, so you are SOL there.
Not sure who was at fault, but either way, you should let them know if you want cash for the added items, or you want to remove certain items and put the stock parts in the car. They need not be reinstalled, just placed in the car. Now the only thing is, if it is at a towing company, you may need to wait until they have been paid to remove anything, or have the appropriate insurance company contact them to let them know it is ok.

Luckily I still have the receipt for it. I didn't do it myself, so I don't have my stock exhaust. This was literally only a month ago, so I scanned all the recent mod receipts and sent them to the person at fault's property adjuster. He said this happens all the time, but that he's never seen previous day receipts and then next day picture of the destroyed part on the vehicle. haha.

Looks good in the pics- are you going to go check it out? Interesting that an SXT has R/T-like duals and skirts, nevermind the BBS wheels.

That's my first pick. Just waiting to find out how much they offer. If it's low-ball, it might be gone by the time I get anything. I have some savings plus the refunds I got for the parts I ordered, but not enough for that. Hopefully they'll be kind to my pocket
