My bagged neon just dipped*Warning extremely bright colors!*

Post by Bagnut » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:33 pm

I have a project thread but figured I'd post pics here for those who haven't seen it yet. It's a 2001 with srt4 bumpers and hood, r/t side skirts, srt4 rear section with moroso spiral muffler, CAI, 17 drag dr31 wheels, and air ride tech air ride
And just dipped it over the weekend

so did you mask stuff off or just spray then peel off the stuff that shouldn't have been sprayed?

A little of both, I removed all the lights, and front bumper. Masked off the inside of the doors and to interior and the outside molding on the doors but not the outside door glass. I removed the wiper cowl and wipers then masked the engine compartment and windshield and molding and rear glass and molding and then the trunk opening. I spent 6 1/2 hours prepping and my step son was helping for a couple hours too.

Ok thanks. That gives me a pretty good idea. I see these videos of people just spraying then peeling the rest off but that seems like a bitch, and obviously wouldn't work everywhere since you did the door jambs etc. I get the feeling I'll be helping a friend (FAC3L3SS) dip his neon at some point so I'd like to know how to go about tackling it.

I wish I would have removed the door glass seals and door caps instead of taping, some of the tape lifted from the spraying so I have been cleanling the seals as I go. I would do that if you're up to it.

Best thing to do when removing the tape is to do it while the dip is still wet, or wait a day or so for it to cure properly. When i go to remove the tape i usually take some glossifier and spray over the tape and edge to re liquify it then pull it off slowly.

I think the issue was the tape didn't bond well enough, and the PD got beneath it.
