Looky what I found! New item on page 2
I bought this on eBay earlier today. I've asked the seller for any background information he might have about it. Does anyone else think that those might be mounting holes on the four corners? I can't really tell from the photo. Perhaps this was mounted as a "license plate" on a Neon displayed at the factory, maybe for the press?

cool. those look to be the little rubber half round nubs to sit it on a desk. the "neon" looks to be nothing more than a trunk badge from a 1gn. cool plaque though

Oh, I didn't think about those corners being "nubs" so that it could rest on a desk. I knew that the "Neon" badge is just that- the same badge that was on a 1GN's trunk. I seriously doubt that this is something that someone made up to look official so I'm really curious to find out it's connection with Chrysler. Maybe something handed out to new car salesmen as a promo item?

i think it was a plaque as well, maybe for an award or wall hanger. probably something an executive for chrysler had. just guessing

I need to get a better picture of this when I get time and save it on org.
JeffB#2 wrote:The story behind the plaque:
Neon event in 2000 I think? We were all parked in front of the assembly plant for the group picture. Matt and others were on the roof with cameras. An older gal came out of the building and down the steps. My wife Sheree was at the bottom of the steps standing there looking around, bored probably. The lady walked right up to her and asked her if she wanted a souvenir. Sheree instantly said something like "sure, what do you have there?". It was that plaque wrapped in tissue paper. She thanked her and the lady walked up to at least 2 other people and gave each person one of these. She had three of them, possibly four total. I don't remember who else got one. Pretty spiffy, Sheree knew I'd want to have one. Brought it home and it's been in the basement with all the other junk I've collected over the years. I've seen exactly two of these on eBay in the last 6-7 years. One brought something just over $40 and I don't remember the other selling price. There used to be all kinds of Neon "stuff" out there including what was sold in the Belvidere Assembly store. Laptop bags, numerous shirt designs, pens, fanny packs, flashlights, hackeysack balls, various hats, jackets, water bottles, etc. We've bought at least two of all the trinkets over the years when we got into the store and brought it home to go on the shelf in the basement. Wiggins has some cool stuff too, ask him. I know that Cory bought a laptop bag the same year that Sheree bought the one my laptop lives in. I bet ACR Man also has some goodies at his place too.
I'll see if I can find where I packed my ~3' x ~3' drunk driving simulator flag that JT finally sold me a couple of years ago. Try and find another one of those. What I'd like to find - one of the multicolor "Neon Challenge" banners. The older one where the word "Challenge" was in green text and it had the yellow stars around it. I sooooooo wanted to steal one off the fence at BAP the one year that they did the autocross. I have good pictures of those banners somewhere. The last year was when they had the SRT-4s for the autocross, I didn't really care for the black/dayglo orange color scheme on the banners but I should have snagged one of those just to have it. I'm not much of a thief so it was kinda hard to think about reaching up to untie one and walk away with it. Didn't happen.
Oh yeah, it's real. And rare. Still have ours here somewhere. Yes, those are little rubber "nibs" and not holes.
Just out of curiosity, what was the price? It's been a number of years since I've seen one sell on eBay, the last one went for a little over $100
It's about 7" x 3", not license plate sized at all.

I found it on ebay, that was a steal on that. Great buy! My search missed it or I would have bought it if no one else had by the time I got to it.

I hope so. Last night, I emailed the rude seller that I mentioned in the other thread and asked that he send the item to me again. Seriously doubt that he will do it though.
The seller of this plaque emailed that he posted it on Tuesday of this week.

Ok I got the story on these today. A friend of mine worked for Chrysler when these first came out. He said when the first neon was built they had a big party at the plant. The news crews were there and higher up, all thatgood stuff. He said they were handing these plaques out during this celebration, hence the job #1 on it. He has one and just about anyone who was there got one. So there's probably more than 4 of these things floating around.

True, but how many of those employees thought the plaques were valuable enough to keep them for 20 years? They mean more to crazies like us than anyone else.JeffB#2 wrote:Belvedere Assembly employees got them as well, there WERE a lot of them 20 years ago.
