i'll nail some cf to a stick if you'll pay for it :P

seriously, the good news keeps piling in: recieved my second delivery aswell, the long awaited resins and gel coat... until i get my other cf shippment, i still have 6 yards of cf and a lot of inside c pillars started so that's what i'm gonna start working on right away; Yes, the time has finally come when you can actually ask me to make these , and expect them to ship out the same week!!

i should have more than enough material for as many orders as you guys wanna throw my way, so lets get a no obligation list of people that want inside c-pillars... basically, you're just reserving your spot in line, so after i post a fully finished pillar and you're still interested, you will recieve your parts in the order you responded :)

i'll hopefully start making overlays in the real near future... they are actually really easy to make now that i have the mold ready, so i look forward to starting that.... i dont like how the first trunk i made came out... while it was solid and looked nice, trimming it up would have been a biotch and the actual build took me a LOT of time, so i've thought out a new way of doint the mounting points which i will try out soon... i cant make stuff cheaply if i have to work on it for 2 days just to make 1; dont worry, it'll come 8)

I'd like to get a set of pillars in CF instead of piecing them all together.... today the C's... tomorrow B's.... And also... any plans on doing the front drivers pillar with guage pods?

can we get a pic to see a differnce between the $70 pillars and the $80 pillars? Also as marakka stated a triple gauge pod A pillar in carbon fiber would be awesome!

you should sell ABC pillars in sets. that way u can move hella units and even drop the price a bit since u'll make a lot at once. I know id like a full set someday!

there really shouldnt be any difference... you're not supposed to see the layer below anyways, except if the cloth is stretched, other than that, all you have is the space between the twill... i just wanted it to be two layers thinking it'll look nicer (no itty bitty spaces between the twill), but at around $50/yard for the cf that wouldnt really be worth it... on the other hand, if i use the S2 fiberglass for the backing, its less than half the price, while still adding to the look and stiffening up the part.... argh, there are SOOOO many stupid little things to consider :x  i'm gonna make one of each, and if its not worth it, i'll go with fg+cf... damn it, i'll try to have some finished pictures for you guys by tomorrow

i looked into the A pillars with pods, but i'm having a hard time thinking up a way to cover the area around the pods, without making wrinkles or stretching the cloth.... its something i really wanted to do, so i'll keep thinking about it

arggh... i think i'm FINALLY understanding how to do this properly... tried on the clear epoxy last night, and woke up to a milky finish this morning.... havent had a chance to sand it off and use gel coat to see if it'll come back to original shine, but instead made another piece since i have the material all precut and all :) i think i understand now what i've been doing wrong, which is, use way too much resin... i only laid a thin coat on, enough to bond all the fibers together, and will use the gel coat to build up the thikness instead of epoxy... i must be on to something, it seems to make a big difference

Aren't you the one that told me I would look back on the using too much resin thing and laugh at myself?

Looks like I had it right from the beginning......I was trained by Kaminari to build carbon fiber parts........

Looks like you finally got it.....great job, make sure you clearcoat your stuff, it will not last otherwise.

The milky resin is from moisture.....it's either humid where your at (can't get around that if you work outside), or your temperature change is to great at night.

I can no longer try to make parts because of my injury, good luck to you. You should become a vendor over at SRTForums.com and sell your parts to those guys as well.

By the way, exactly what resin are you using......if you ned a better one, let me know, I can point you in the right direction.....you can PM me if you like.

here is my latest project

Image

first off, i'm gonna take some large plastic sheets now that i have the cutout, and make a couple airdams for local guys.... i can probably make these for like 40-50 bucks!... second, i'll make full lips out of fg/cf, as i've had A LOT of interest in this locally... i should be able to adapt these very easily to the sx lip...

i also finished a fg/cf trunk, and got it to come out at 7lbs... i expect the cf one to be at just about 4lbs :) pics to come...

lambostealth wrote:

no not about that, about other things in general... and i said we're both gonna share a laugh, at eachother... like sorry, but if you're trained by kaminari, you should know that you dont need people to send in parts to be laminated, you can pull the ones off your car, wax them and simply make a new part that you can pry off the original

lambostealth wrote: The milky resin is from moisture.....it's either humid where your at (can't get around that if you work outside), or your temperature change is to great at night.
well that's the thing... its bone dry here in alberta, and even the ones i did in the morning and let cure during lunch did the same thing... when i read some more how tos, they talked about doing 3 coats of epoxy in order to get it to come out clear

-1st coat you just spread resin around, and make no attempt to work it into the fabric, just let it soak in, then squeegie out the excess resin...>>see, when i do this really, really well, the fiber looks good, but in the dips where it pools it gets milky... SO, i figure that i just gotta let them cure in a way that doesnt make them pool

-2nd coar is just to work in resin in between the fibers, and then again, all excess should be scraped off, and no effort to build thickness should be made....

-3rd coat is to build up a layer that can be sanded down after so the outer shell is smooth...

is this what they taught you too?

lambostealth wrote: By the way, exactly what resin are you using......if you ned a better one, let me know, I can point you in the right direction.....you can PM me if you like.

i think THAT'S my problem... i bought this from a local supplier, but on www.fiberglast.com , where i actually buy most of my fiber from, they have CLEAR epoxy.... i'm gonna have to contact my supplier i guess... if you wanna pm me your hookup i'll obviously definately be interested

no no no, its just the beginning of the lip i mentioned before, and some people asked me about... i was really proud how symetrical the cutout came out, but my buddies here reminded me of what i was actually intending to copy, which is this thing...

Image

so, instead of the fangs, they all want half fangs... no big deal, but i think its funny that i've been looking at so many different styles of lips that i forgot about the one i had set out to duplicate to begin with :P

and how much are you gonna be making that lip for? will it come up and over the front lip of the SRT bumper, like the one you are trying to mimic?
