Over the weekend i was competiting in a charity event, Winged Warrior 2, and i was driving home with two of my friends, an STI and Turbo Caviler. The STI was in the front, then me, and the cavi bringing up the rear. So we're going also and then I see the STI suddenly swerve into the other lane. Then I saw what he was swerveing at, a full re-tread off of a semi. So I swear hard into the other lane and as I was correcting the rear end slid out and I was unable to recover and ending up sliding into the median.

The damage. Right rear tire has alot of positive camber, not sure what is broken yet. Trunk has 2 dents in it now, the front facisa has lots of paint chipping off and is slightly deformed now. The polyurthane in the lower motor mount looks like it popped out. The hood is bowed up and the front frame where the radiator is mounted is bent upward. I don't know what I'm going to do about insurance and repairs yet. I've never had anything happen like this and have never really had to work with the insurance company.

I think thats all. If not I post more later
I have the re-tread and I'll take some pictures of it later

I am sure all the other people here that have gotten into accidents will help you out about insurance stuff. Atleast you are okay thats the main thing, and your car isn't totaled. I am sorry but I am a noob. WTF is re-tread? I am guessing its torn up tire from a semi?

damn.... that freakin sucks. hope everything works out for you.

re-tread... when semi tires get worn down, instead of being trashed and replaced, the add new layers of tread to it. thats what you see in the roads all the time... the tread ends up ripping/popping off.

Big rig tires are expensive, instead of buying new tires when the tread wears out, they melt new rubber and attach it to the old baldie. Sometimes (alot of the time) they don't attach so well, and cause accidents. I killed a turbo mini-van like that.

Out here we've got retreads littering the entire highway system. They are like landmines...

That friggin' suck FTW. It sounds repairable though and it looks like it was a fairly soft landing. I'll be prayin' for yah man..

Well I've been working on her, assesing the damage. In the rear it looks like I need a new knuckle and a new strut stablizer bar. In the front it looks like alot of damge to the raditor support area, Just alot of bent metal that should be fixable. There may be a possible crack in the raditor or somewhere else. I found fluid but am unable to locate where its coming from. Front bumper is cracked but repairable and will need repainted as well. I took more pictures of her today that I'll post later tonight. I think that about everything I found...

I agree that re-treads should be illegal... Firestone got sued because their tires are shit, but people can still use re-treads?! Glad to see that it didn't turn out worse, especially since it could've quite easily.

Wow that sucks man, you might have been better off hitting it. The only reason i say that is because i hit about 3/4 of the tread off a semi on the highway at night, i didn't even see it until it was right in front of me, so i had no time to get out of the way.

$1100 to repair the body kit. Luckily the trucker was on still on the side of the road, and to make a long story short, we didn't go through insurance, but his company agreed to paid half of the bill.

Damn not another one!
Whats even scarier is driving down the thruway at 70mph and having one of those retreads blow up right in front of you and shoot over your car barely missing ya...now thats close!

well, here's my experience with retreads.

Just like 2 weeks ago, I was driving on the interstate when my car was lowered about 2 inches all around, and at 70 mph i saw a retread and slowed down as much as i could (about 55) before i just hit it. There was little else I could do, considering there were cars blocking up the fast lane (i was in the slow lane) and didn't want to swerve and possibly risk my girlfriend's life who was in the car with me...so I just white knuckled the steering wheel, swore my lungs out, and ran it over. It was half a whole tire, BIG ass road aligator. BUT! luckily that ABS plastic bumper didn't break at all and nothing was knocked loose.

So I say just run them over.

She'll be rebuilt, the damage isn't as bad as I thought it was. I've got parts coming in tomarrow to fix the rear end and get her drivable, then I need to get an estimate about fixing the raditor support. And if I don't fix it I can drive it as is.

From what I can tell, need a new knuckle, traction bar is bent, and raditor support was moved forward a few inches on the left bottem side.

huh. whats with the red ones gettin wrecked? mines been outta commission for 2.5 weeks and counting. btw, your rear wheel looked like mine... but mine was a tiny bit more cambered out.... i bought all new driver side suspension pieces (control arms etc) and all that shiz, even an axle, then nothing solved the mysterious vibration around 20 mph.

looked @ k-member, bent. bought one from junkyard and guess what? it came with control arms. money down the drain. i didnt go thru insurance.... and i think they would have totalled it if i had. so... im making good use of the time and lack of k-member and installing the longtube lol. sorry about that and good luck!!

I han't had time to post recently but last sunday I wrecked the car...again....

I got the car up and running and was on my way to an autocross, I wrecked the car again because of some old lady that decided to turn out infront of me and I tried to save the car and ended up nailing a curb. Killed one of my Azenies , now it has a giant bubble on the sidewall and now the car isn't running, as soon as I start the car it jumps all over in RPMS and won't stop. Say as soon as I start the car it will jump to 5k, then go down to 2k then up to 3k, then to 1200 and bounce there. Not sure what it could be. Computer mabye? And while I had the car jacked up today I found that I'm leaking antifreeze and I'm praying I didn't crack the block.

I havn't touched the car since I wrecked it and will probably try to work on it this weekend. I just bought a car last night to replace the neon as a daily driver since it no longer drives. I'll post pictures of that later tonight
