Newest project: Restoring/painting 17" -DONE!!- 56kNO
So, I bought a set of 17" Alessio Alaska rims few days ago and now I'm planning/thinking what to do with them.
Rims are in pretty bad shape, the lacquer has chipped in few places almost in every wheel. And paint also of course...
But they're not crooked or bented and I really like the model and shape of the rims...
That's why I want to restore them.
Plus I got a set of 17" Marangoni Zeta's when I bought them so....
Not yet sure if I'll take them to pro painter or if I will do them myself...
Rim(s) in present condition:
Here are few of the ideas I have:
This is my favorite: (also lowered...)
....Sorry bout the old winter rims behind...little crappy photos....
What do you guys think?
Should I go with the graphite, black or maybe with full white (race look)...?
Old silver looks surprisingly good, so full white might look pretty nice too...

I think screw the paint, strip the coat on them and polish them up... Just my $.02.
Otherwise... the graphite looking one (your favorite) is the better one of them

I thought that too but bronze doesn't seem to go well with red so...Dnt.B.H8N wrote:What about bronze?
Little like bronze (I couldn't get it even close.... looks like it's rusted...)
But after some designing and thinking, I decided to go with either graphite or matt black. Only problem is that graphite seems to be rare color here where I live...not nice.
Reason why I'd like to go with graph or black, is because I would like the car look like somewhat this after some time...:
Or this:

update:
So, I decided to go with Motip's Matt Black and use Clear coat.
So far I have done all 4 wheels:
- Sanded them with 180 regular sandpaper, 180 wet sandpaper and 400 wet sandpaper.
- Patched them with Plastik Padding's chemical metal (liquid)
- Again some sanding...
- Primed with Motip's grey primer (good for metal surfaces, aluminium too...)
- Sprayed 2 coats of matt black
I still need to spray the clear coat on them before I can put them under...
Personally, I'm really happy with the outcome so far... I just hope that the clear coat won't f*** them up....
Here's one sanded:
And repaired:
Primed:
First layer of paint:
Second layer:
Little hint of what they will look....:
-------------------------------------
Pretty easy to do. Just be thorough when sanding the wheels and repairing them. Good base is crucial...
And it took a WHOLE lot of sanding... My fingertips were literally bleeding after the first day because of all the work....
And take your time with the paintjob.... If you hurry things too much, the result is going to suck.
I'll get back to you guys when it's all done.

Anyone know of the US equivalent?
I don't know what would be equivalent in U.S but this is the stuff:
http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro ... ical+metal
Seems to be pretty commonly used/available in Europe / UK...

So, I got them wheels finally ready and under car...
I think they look freakin' nice.
I was a little afraid what the clear coat might do to them but the result is really nice IMO...
take a look:
Pretty easy project like I said before...
I'm definitely going to paint my winter wheels black with silver edge...
