Finally, after 29 days, the neon is back in our possession!
It looks pretty good so far, I'll be able to look over it more tomorrow in the daylight. The new headlights are far better than the ones that used to be on there. I'm going to try to swap the eyelids over to the new headlights tomorrow
The alignment is good, no pulling in either direction. The steering feels tighter, I'm not sure if that's just because I've become accustomed to the rental's characteristics or not. There was a couple of sounds while going over bumps that raised concern, like something is loose somewhere. I'll try to track that down also.
Aside from the small issues, I'm very glad to finally have the car back. It still needs an oil change and belts, so someday I'll address that.
Pics tomorrow hopefully.

Found the source of the awful noise this morning. One of the lower control arm bolts was extremely loose, so I took it back to the shop and they bolted everything back up nice and tight. That took care of the noise and the car feels perfect again.
The guy at the shop mentioned that the bushings are starting to split, so that's something to add to the list of things to do.
I'm going to go work on getting the eyelids off of the old headlights now. Just curious, anybody interested in some busted headlights? the mounting tabs on the passenger side are broken, but the lenses and everything else are fine.

The other day my wife and I were bored so we went to look at an old homestead out in the sticks. Took the camera along to see if there was anything interesting to take pics of. There was just an old foundation and a pile of lumber from an old house. The wife snagged a small board as a keepsake since they're going to throw the rest away. I snagged a few photos.
Also, I put the old eyelids on. The lenses on these headlights are a tiny bit different and the gaskets sit slightly different, so there is a very skinny gap along the very top of the eyelid. I might pick up some black vinyl to run under the eyelid.
We went out to meet up with TNK for some chicken wings last night and the whole way there we fought a slipping belt. We attempted to replace it last weekend but the belt we got was too small. Hopefully a new belt will fix it, cuz I REALLY don't want to pay for a new tensioner.

Hmmm...Updates..updates....
Well, a while back I took a trip over to TNK's house and we were going to attempt to change the oil and the accessory belt. NO GO. The belt they gave us was way too short and the last place that changed the oil (cough*jiffylube*cough) fuxor'd the drain plug to hell. At the end of the night, we were 0 for 2.
Fast-forward to last week, I took the car into the dealership, got a free oil change (but paid 25 bucks for a new drain plug! ) and TNK and I got a correct size belt and got that fixed.
While at the dealership, they noted that I had a tranny leak. They said to fix it would require a new gasket and new fluid. Total cost = nearly 300 bucks. The gasket is 5 dollars online, so that's going on the to-do list for spring, as well as new brake pads up front.
So far, the new belt has helped tremendously, but it still squeals every now and then, which leads me to believe the tensioner is going to continue being a pain in the ass.
In other news, we're going on vacation this Friday for Valentines day. Also, depending on the next few weeks, we may be moving to the Seattle area.

Well, we got back from our vacation up in the mountains. The weather sucked, but we had a good time. The car had some issues with the belt, it slipped constantly, so one of these days I'm going to have to get a new tensioner.
The weather has been beautiful here the past couple of days...which suggests SPRING is on its way! I really need to clean the garbage out of the trunk and i'd like to do a deep clean on the interior.

Oh jeez it's been a long time since I've posted here haha. The Skank is still puttin along, just recently got the brakes revamped. The belt isn't a problem anymore, but now it has a stutter every now and then just after start up, almost seems like a clogged injector or something related to the fuel system. When things settle down I'll see about sorting it out.
The wife recently purchased a vehicle for herself as we've been a one car family for several months now. It's a 98 dodge neon that was kept up quite well by the original owner. (4 door, 5 speed, 2.0l, 160xxx miles) The previous owner had receipts for every oil change, every repair, and threw in any spare parts she had. The only problems we've had with it so far is a squeaky belt when she turns the wheel and it smokes a little on start up. Here's a couple of pics for ya.
^^The fender looks dented in that pic but it's not lol.
