Well, the same guy that recommended me to this place said that he had them do a Honda motor for him, then something happened to the block, and I guess this place bought him a completely new shortblock. That's the reason I went to them, for the insurance. But apparently to this guy if it isn't in writing it never happened.Danteneon wrote:Understandable. You just have to think about the price vs. the professional install. If his work comes with some kind of warranty, that may be the way to go. The only problem is if the engine does develop some problem it is easy for the builder to claim it wasn't related to something he did.

Given the way that is written with the "freeze plugs" seemingly indented every so slightly...yellowpatrol wrote:Whoa whoa whoa, back the truck up. I just looked over that original estimate he gave me, and it says clear as day install new engine parts!!
It could mean "install new freeze plugs"
2011 Honda Fit Sport
this is the way i read it:
Valve job - surface
Bore hone block
tear down engine
TANK all engine parts - install new.....freeze plugs
(check crankshaft)
all for $575
that seems about right to me as far as a "price quote".

The thing I'm seeing though, is that he didn't put it on a new line. Look at "Valve job - surface", that got it's own line. Why start a new item on the same line as another?

You're missing the point. There would be room if he would start "Install new" on it's own line, since the way he's claiming it is that it's its own task.Nutmeg wrote:Because there's no room on the previous line? Looks pretty obvious that it's to install new freeze plugs.

hurry up man!
Sorry to hear about the issues, I know burlington has a rep in the city though, so you should just talk to the guy and tell him that you would like to discuss what all this means, on the estimate, that you were under the impression that he was installing all the new parts... if he will not, I know a guy near me with TONS of experience... and the shops name is RAD.
Anyways, this place knows their stuff, bring it to them and get a quote for install if you have too. Call me anytime, I'll hook you up!

That's what I'm waiting for. I'll be happy to actually have a hand in it instead of being at the mercy of douchebags

I bet! You got new parts all over the place that are telling you, "Install me or I will kill you!" Well maybe not that weird...yellowpatrol wrote:Yeah, I'm gonna go there Wed and then we will see what I have to do from there. ^^ lol!
Well, I'm aboot to go down there. Pretty fuckin pumped. I'm taking a couple friends with me.
In other news, I changed my mind on rims, but I'm keeping it a secret for now. They will be badass though.
I'm also about to call MP and order some new crap, and hopefully some bolts for the O2 housing.
EDIT: I can't keep a secret very well. I just got off the phone with Modern and bought:
MPx BFMIC
AGP Uppipe
HKS BOV
Crane #14 Cams
Valve springs & titanium retainers
Now I gotta think of a new short ram intake solution though, since the uppipe won't work with the AEM one I was considering...

Whew, just got back from a long day of running errands. The motor is done! I tried and tried but there was no way he was installing the pistons and rods for free, even though the original bid says install new. A guy I work with builds motors on the side all the time so he said he could help me with that though. The guy at the shop however, did not charge me for the crankshaft balancing and polish that he originally said would be $270. So all in all I think I made out well. Best of all the motor is back in my possession. The head turned out SEXY. I'll post pics later.Hudson_Neon wrote:so how did the trip turn out?

Haha, dude I just know you're gonna have a beast of a car. And a year, that would drive me crazy to wait that long! Best of luck with the install of everything else.yellowpatrol wrote:WOW you are one antsy mofo!
