Yeah I would remove the brake booster and then put it back on. Since you're replacing the master it shouldn't matter if you remove it and put it back in (I wouldn't think). If it makes your life easier then just go for it.

Yes you spelt it right :)

As Opi said, it will only make it easier when you reinstall to get the pin back in. Good luck keep us all posted :)

Well I recieved a piece of mail today...

Image

So I started to work on this again.. My buddy says that I need to disconnect the line from a quick disconnect. You all think this is what he was talking about... I'm going to try to disconnect from here and my maint. manual states that I need to disconnect from here with a specality tool.. I wonder if I can just use a screw driver to diaconnect.

Image

This should be fun...... :tardbang:

Well... I took another look at teh line and right at the disconnect i use my "special tool" (wrench) and was able to get it disconnected.. I hope it will go back together.

Image

I was able to feed the line so far to manuver the master cylinder to a spot where I can use a bit small enough to use as a punch.

Image

I knocked out the pin and the hard line poped off.

Here is that P.I.T.A. pin..

Image

Here is the cylinder removed.....

Image

It was a bit easier putting it back in and reassmebled in the car... I haven't filled the resivor up yet. I need to figure how I bleed the system ...

Yeah I found it... still haven't had the time to work on it... I'm tring to have some help so I don't have to pump and bleed by my self.. so I'll mess with it here in a few days...

On a second note, I received a call from a friend about some parts... I picked them up yesterday from the junk yard on my lunch.

What do you think?????

Intake should look good! But...FYI did it come with the rubber bumper that bolts to the battery tray? If it did not, and you have solid motor mounts, the bracket will snap off (it did on mine) and could potentially cause damage to the turbo. The welds are very weak as they are done on too high of a heat temperature. I wouldn't even bolt that part down if I were you, you'd be better off if you don't have the bumper bolt.

The Turbo buildup as of Jan 09....

Post by NeonOn19s » Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:27 am

Well, its been awhile since I have updated this thread, and I've been slacking for awhile, but my job / holidays have kept me from working on the car. I have put my foot down and I'm going to start this up again.... So today it was 72 out, and I decided that it was time to work.
The car is back on the stands... yeah!!! can't get access to my attic agian.. LOL

Image

I was fortunate to get my front bumper up in the attic before it went on the stands...

Image

I'm trying to figure a way to get my FM stations again, since I have no outside antenna, so I'm installing one inside my dash if possible...

Image

Image

I have it hooked up, but i'm getting a lot of static... It will come to me sooner or later.

I'm also going to work on modding the turbo pods onto my dash..

Image
Image
Image

Now I need to figure out what I need to do to make it work.

Onto the Engine... The break down begins and the turbo installs started..

Image

As you can see I tore down what I could.. nothing a little WD-40 can work with.. LOL

Image

Cooliant tank removed for the time being.. I will have to relocate the cooliant some where else in the tight engine compartment.

Image

Now here is one question that I have.. This box that I took out that is right by the OEM cooliant bottle I need gone so the turbo can fit. Any idea what it is, and do I need it?

Image
Image

It had vac line connected to it. I temporally tied it off so there wouldn't be a leak.

Image

I removed the heat shield off the exhaust manifold and tried to break free the bolts on the Catalitic converter.. too rusted.. WD-40 is sitting on it right now... I hope that it works.

Jan 20th

Well, today I called in sick today from work due to waiting on furniture arriving at my house. Ofcourse they give me a window from 7am to 10pm...

Since is it nice out today I though that I would continue tearing down for the turbo... So this is what I was able to do before lunch.

I broke loose the exhaust bolts on the mid pipe and loosen all the bolts off the exhaust manifold and with a little help by a hammer :D

Image

Image

I took off the CAI for the last time... The car looks completely destroided LOL

Image

Finally got the manifold out and now I have tons of room back there..

Image
Image

Any one need a mainfold??? LOL

Image

I also started to take apart the Turbofold so I could start polishing the housing, but I think that I might just take it somewhere and get it done.

Image
Image

I'm going to try to get some help with the oil feed lines, and need some assistance with removing the oil pan and etc...

Friday 23rd

Well I picked up my buddies high speed buffer and another Turbo housing to work on. I used a 3 stage polishing setup, and worked on it last night for a couple of hours and then finished it up this morning for now...

BEFORE:
Image

AFTER:
Image

THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE TWO:
Image

I also started on installing the adapter plate, but ran into a small issue.

Image

This is only the half of the adapter and I have a some play even with bolts tight. I might have to change out the bolts to a shorter one, I might be hitting the end of the thread. I took a break ( its 50 out and a bit cold for us southerns)

I should put more up later on today.

Well I tried again after I had some lunch and figured that I was using the wrong size of bolts, there were 3 differnt sizes to the kit and I put the wrong ones on first.... .

So I finished mounting the adapter plate up to the block.. Looking good so far...
I then did a test fit with the Turbo manifold on to check clearances..

Image

Image

Image

I think that I need to cover up the lines attached to the firewall..

I will mess with it more in a bit.

That’s a vacuum reservoir for the cruise control. 2000 m/y Neons had it mounted in the passenger side front fender well by the washer fluid tank IIRC. Might want to look into relocating it there.

I already took out the cruise control so I will be just trashing it.

Thanks

the body shop that did the body work did it, and its a full weld on kit ( lot stronger) I would have to contact them to get the real timeframe.

Looking good man. Can't wait till the turbo is done. Are you going to go to the dyno or track once it's done?

Things are coming along nicely!! Very sweet. Now...as for the gauge pod I have a mini how-to in my progress log. I currently have the OEM one and two others mounted there, if you want me to give you more details, I'd be glad to.
