Thanks hon :) The plan is to have her running by the end of April.

No worries Sean. Like I said, the price was right and it gave me the opportunity to make them the way I want them

^ Me neither.

I'm really liking the blue Gates parts. Nice idea of moving the battery tray in the back too! Are you going to run w/o a timing belt cover? Also, I would put a grommet in any hole that you snake wires through. I like to be cautious of shorting.

Hmmm...seems to be a problem with the link for me too. I'll work on that.

Oh, and there is a grommet there Chad. I too am concerned with teh safety :) And no, I will not be running a cover on the timing belt. This car will never see any snow, and unless it rains while I'm driving her, she won't see rain either.

OK, link works again. Apparently you need the original file to remain in Photobucket or else the edited one doesn't work. Talk about bandwidth waste!

So as the link above illustrates...She is alive!!!! It's been almost a year but she is running again. Here are some pics of the final results.

First bath in almost a year
Image

How long will it look this good?
Image

A crappy shot of the (mostly) finished re-wiring job
Image

I had to scrap the Rockford Fosgate distribution block in favor of this one that uses much beefier fuses. I needed a 100 and a 250 amp fuse for the alt and starter
Image

There is more work to be done yet. I still need a catch can for the PCV system, and I want a better coolant bottle than this...
Image

Granted it's a Monster can, but still. I hope to drive her around very soon (the tags, inspection and emissions are all dead atm). But even with all that still to go, I am happier than I can say!

Thanks all :) Your complements have really helped keep my focus and the fact that it is at a point where I feel others can appreciate her makes me feel good. And I can't say enough how much Juan (Thtxboy) has helped me stay on track. He has helped in so many ways. Thanks man  It's has been quite an ordeal, but now that she is for the most part complete I can once again focus on other things.

Like detailing the exterior, doing the other paint projects I have in mind, and a few minor things that never got addressed last year. Like always...stay tuned :D

Oh, and Jen, I will have some new pics for you to do your magic on soon!

Meh, not that much difference :P Just kidding.

When I read the title "Whats that noise" I thought you had broke something in the engine bay and it's making noises. lol

But honestly, nice work man. I give you 2 thumbs up, or 5 stars. You choose. lol

Nice.

But *I* would have taken it one step farther and eliminated the upper torque strut and it's attaching. Then It's be suoer clean.

 I'm glad that the title caught someone then :) Thank you for the props.

You, sir, need to stay the hell out of my head! Believe it or not, there is a plan to do just that. I won't happen any time soon however. But as long as I have this car, I am working towards that goal

Now the update. I have been doing some more work to the car to make it street legal. Surprisingly, there are only two issues that had to be addressed.

1) If the car has a power steering rack in it, the power steering has to work :banghead: (There is a really good reason for this which I will explain later)

2) The air bag light doesn't come on during the cluster start-up check. Oops.

So, the air bag issue is easy. The power steering...well. Remember, one of the reasons I got rid of it was to un-clutter the passenger side of the engine bay. So the question became "How do I make the power steering work but still keep the lines away from my exposed timing belt?!?!" The answer? The trusty SRT. :D

And on that note I am going back to work on it. More info in a little while

Just swap in a 1GN manual rack with 2gn outers.

That is the plan, however finding a manual 1st gen rack is the problem. While one is being found, this is the only way to quickly make her legal.

Manual rack on .org in WV.

Does take a bit of modding (read: welding) to get it to work in a 2gn/SRT.

Sweet! Thanks man!!!

I know there is a bit of work involved in putting a manual rack in, but you don't have to weld anything. We installed a manual rack in Juan's car. There is a guy who makes the mounting bracket for the one side that allows the rack to be level. The only other difference is the coupler between the rack and the column. The 1st gen coupler bolts up perfect to our column. And the tie rods are even the same (you only need to change them if you are installing the rack in a SRT like Juan's car).

I sent him a PM so I'll let you know what happens :D
