Chtear Says...Y U no love me?!
Thanks
Info update...I have been slammed at work this month between my promotion to parts manager and getting our Chrysler parts inventory ready for sale.
Juan and I hit up the local 1/8 mile track the other day.
R/T .522
60' 2.436
330 6.709
1/8 10.229
MPH 69.56
Not too bad a time for street tires at 32psi
I refused to let any air out since there isn't any air at the track.
So here are a couple of pics of the newest upgrade, plus a couple of pics of the work I did previously but didn't have the lift handy.
Beautiful lower mount (thanks Justin!)

Better shot of the underdrive pulley

Here are more pics of the SRT P/S lines that I used...

That's about it for now. I have something else playing around in my brain, so maybe that will be the next project

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

So what do you do when you have reached a point in a project where the car is running and looking good and most everything you want is in place?
You start thinking to yourself "You know, I could use some more power."
But me being the sadist that I am, I don't want to go the turbo route, nor do I want to change the look of the (mostly) stock engine bay (so no 2.4 DOHC swap here). So what does that leave?

Good ideas there. As a matter of fact that was my same thinking. So lets explore that.
Head...I have the Magnum head which flows great to start with. Some mild porting would be in order, as well as possibly some bigger valves and a hotter cam. Money is the issuse as far as that goes.
Internals...The smart money is on the bottom end. While I can punch out the block and raise the compression, there is the addage "no replacement for displacement". So how do I increase displacement?
Could it be? Maybe? Oh yes, I'm going there.

nope, he just picked up a new short block. There isn't enough deck height on a 2.0 block for the stroke needed to hit 2.4L

*Ding* Correct Frank.
Despite the fact that A) I have yet to see real evidence that this has been done, and B) Poor Brad's problems with his set-up, I am going to make the plunge into the voodoo that is the elusive 2.4 SOHC.
The donor

It is a 2000 2.4 DOHC engine out of a Stratus.

You won't be the first. I'm pretty sure there is atleast one or two that have done it on the org.
Mike, he picked up a 2.4 short block (short block = block, pistons, rods, crank)

I have researched the other org quite a bit. The end result was "There is a running 2.4 SOHC, but he won't post any pics. Besides, you are stupid if you do it because it won't be as fast as a DOHC."
My thinking is that the Magnum head will out flow a stock (or even mildly ported) DOHC head and have less rotating mass. The real challenges are...
Mounting...will my 2nd gen mount plate work?
Alignment of the drive belts...some spacer work will be needed to align the pulleys properly.
Timing components...the 2.4 has the timing belt further away from the block than the 2.0 does. So there is the issue of the tensioner and cam pulley. I really want to use the adjustable 2.0 gear that I have, but if need be I have a stock 2.0/2.4 flippable one I can use.
While I didn't get the pistons or rods with this engine, it really doesn't matter since I plan to get some nice forged bits with some .020 oversized 10.5 slugs.

Ooooo, yes! That does help. Thanks
I have a lot of mocking up of parts and there will be some adaptors made up for the P/S and Alt mounting. I want to try and show that this project is doable for anyone. Time will tell if it is A) Worth the time and money (power-wise) and B) Easy enough for the DIYer.

IIRC you use a stock dohc timing belt. the cam gear needs to be spaced out about 1/2-1 inch i believe. Don't remember what tensioner. The side motor mount is off of a pt. stock or srt upper and lower torque struts. Oh and i think the front mount (where the a/c condensor goes) is from an srt.

[/quote]Yup it definately needs to go lower. If its not scrapeing constantly why you are driving then its not low enough bro.
Good info there...except one thing. The SRT (well, no second gen for that matter) uses the front center mount like the 1st gens do.
My plan is to use my exsiting engine mounting plate and stock style mounts. The big question with that is will the holes line up and how much (if any) do I need to space the plate from the block. Time will tell

I have made no progress on the 2.4 as of yet. Juan is helping me source many of the parts I need to make this a reality, so I can be patient. In the meantime though, Chtear got her craving for bigger meat fulfilled....

They are Kosei K3 in 18x7.5 35 offset with 225/40/18 Kuhmo SPTs. I finally got some much needed tire width and the very flush fitment I have wanted for so long! Sorry the pics aren't better...half the lights in the shop were off
I will be lowering the front some more to improve the look, and the 1/4 panels need to be rolled a bit.
