Yeah, it's kind of an addiction, eh? I'm nearly done with part buying, the numbers are getting harder to crunch everytime I do the budget check.

Yeah, you can say that again. I'm getting pretty bloody anxious to do this. I think I spend more time thinking about this than anything else. :banghead:

Why are you doing it in your room? You're supposed to do it in the garage!

Make sure you put that on right, when its off the car. Just the paper gasket won't do it. Need some copper hi temp rtv too.. Or it will be a b00st leak. :banghead:

The gasket is already RTV'd onto it, I believe. Well it's stuck on there with something.

I think we're going to do the swap Memorial Day weekend. That way, there are three days of no school; hence more time to work out problems.

The axles, coolant bottle, and shift ball came in a few days ago, so I think we have everything we need, minus some various hoses/lines.

I'm getting excited.

Here are some pictures of the axles, coolant bottle, and shift ball:

And I ordered an HID kit from BRR, with plans to retrofit stock housings. Keep a look out for this project.

This time next week I'm hoping I should be finishing up the swap. I can't wait.

You need a link to this in your sig. Took me forever to find it. And you should update it! You said in the other thread that the motor is almost out!

How was the first day of the swap?

The first day of the swap is over. Here are some pictures

We had some problems draining the coolant, kind of got it everywhere.

The only thing that stopped us from pulling the motor was the axles. I made four trips to the auto store in the period of an hour to find the right size drive, then to get a puller for the axles.

We go at it again in the morning, so expect updates tomorrow night!

i strongly recommend switching the jackstands out for good cinderblocks with a U shaped end on it. much more stable and guaranteed to not have a slide-off... slip them under the mail "frame" rails running the length of the car to either side of the exhaust channel...

looks good so far man!

Just curious, why wouldn't jack stands be good for holding a car up. Aren't they MADE to do that?

What did you end up having to get? Maybe you can save me four trips ;)

if i were you, go to NAPA and get an axle nut socket set, and an air hammer. that'll get those axles out real fast

Well, the stands are working fine, and are under the rails. Took all kinds of shaking trying to unbolt the exhaust.

As far as the axles, we didn't have the right socket. You could go rent a socket set like Hudson said, but it's 32mm just so you know. It was like 16 bucks at Schuck's. Then we grabbed a hub puller to get the axle out, so it should go smoothly today.

Right now, we're just trying to figure out some wiring issues, like where several plugs go (check the motor swap section). I put the new gauges in today, but couldn't get the shifter or pedals swapped because none of the tools were at the shop (needed elsewhere). We also have some axle problems, and might need whole new axles. Other than the small things, hopefully we'll get the motor dropped next weekend.
