Doesn't the neon have independent rear suspension?

How do you like the handling stock? I'm thinking about getting an SS/TC when I graduate in a year an change, but the whole independent rear suspension makes me wonder about the cornering.
My rear cobalt has the semi-independent rear suspension. Don't know what that means to you, but I'm not to much of a suspension guy. And honestly, I couldn't tell you how well it handles. I've yet to really get on it and test out it's cornering ability. I really don't "test" my cars ability to much. I paid to much for it to accidentally over-correct myself or something. At the speeds I go it handles well though, better than my neon with it's beefier suspension upgrades I did.

Oh, and here are some random pictures of the eyelids that I still need to fix the paint on:

I can't decide if I want to fix them myself, take them to a shop, or just sell them off. Decisions decisions decisions.....

I'd fix them, they give the car a whole different look.

I can see some flaws in them, but I really don't think it's anything you couldn't fix yourself.

You should get a straight front shot with the eyelids.

 I still want to race a SRT-4 just to see personally how far back cobalts are. I'm still not one to care for speed, just style.

And the finish sucks on them. There's some dips in the finish, no clear, and they used duplicolor black instead of GM black.

Dropped the car off to Amit (03_sxt) today to detail my car, tint my tails, and paint my headlights. I'd do that stuff myself normally, but in this damn apartment complex I can't and I -really- want this stuff done.

After the headlights are painted, I'm going to toss the eyelids back on and decide if I want to keep them. I probably will, which means in the next couple of weeks I'll be working on the imperfections of them.

Expect a photoshoot after I get my car back.

Honestly, as long as the clear is done right on them, 99% of the time black is black and you're not going to be able to tell a difference in the brand or color code of it. It's really the only color that works that way.

I'd say throw a few good coats of a high quality filler primer on, let them dry for a day, block them out and see where they're at. Depending on how minor the waves are (you can't really tell from the pics), a lot of it may come out with primer and no filler or fiberglass work.

As for the SRT race, I'm still fairly stock, I'm game.

Yea, the waves are really minor, but it's noticable if you look for it, and that bugs the piss out of me. It shouldn't be a hard job by any means, I just have little faith in my painting skills.

If you weren't so far away, then I'd be more than happy to take you up on that race, just for the sake of it.

If anything you could prime them and block them to get them ready for paint, them let somebody else spray them. You don't have to worry about any runs or sags in the primer since you'll be sanding it smooth anyway.

It's a shame we're not closer to each other, besides the race, I do body and paint work for a living and could spray the eyelids for you for next to nothing.

Well I'll be getting my car back in a few hours, so eyelids go back on for the decision.

And sum-bitch, even from Toledo you're still 4 hours away.

I'd just have you teach me your painting ways  And get my ass handed to me in a race :D

Got my car back from Amit and ZOMG does it look a MILLION times better. :D

Sadly, it also showed me all the problems in the paint, but ahhh well. Most you have to look for it. the headlights and taillights turned out AMAZING.

Expect pictures tomorrow... it got to late for me to take pictures tonight

Here are some teaser pictures of the headlights:

I noticed a bit of hot glue let over, so when I take them off to put my Silverstars in I'll go over it with a razor and clean everything up.

I made the dumb ass mistake of driving my car to work today.... Ya, well, it rained and now the entire back end is covered in dirt from the highway. :cussing: I WAS going to go do a full photo shoot here in Toledo, but now I have to go find a car wash with a pressure hose to clean it off first...

Gotta pick up some microfiber rags as well so I can wipe it down daily. God damn black cars.

please tell me you putting the eyelids back on, they look killer with them on, good job on painting the headlights they look amazing.

With all the popular response, I more than likely will be fixing the eyelids and putting them on the car. They do look good and did cost me a pretty penny, so why not.

And Amit (03_sxt) is the one that painted my headlights, taillights, and detailed my car for me. The girlfriend wouldn't let me paint in the apartment, and I didn't want to do them outside for fear of pollen, so I paid him to do it all for me. :D

He did a damn good job. There are a few little mistakes here and there, but nothing for me to bitch about.

Welp, I've decided a few different things about my car now...
Since 01NeonR/T posted that he has a carfax account right now, I had him run my Cobalt. I never bothered to have it done before.

Somethings that I learned:
-I'm the 3rd owner
-The car has traveled from Wisconsin, Virginia, Iowa, Michigan, to me
-Completely clean record
-Warranty that's left:
Basic 14 months or 16,680 miles
Drivetrain 14 months or 16,680 miles
Emissions 2 months or 4,680 miles
Corrosion 50 months or 80,680 miles
Roadside Assistance 14 months or 16,680 miles
Safety belt & inflatable restraint No data reported to CARFAX
Specific Components 74 months or 60,680 miles

So, because of this, I'm not going to be worrying about running GMs stage 2. Come next year the warranty will be up anyways, and I can get more power for less money. So, performance-wise this year, all that will be done is:
-R.A.W 3" intake (in the mail right now)
-ZZ Performance 3" stainless steel header-back exhaust (shipment starts next month)

and that should be it. As eager as I am to toss on more mods, I need to get bored with the power it has first. Now next year, I'm looking more towards:
-60# injectors
-2.7" pulley
-GM shortened stage 2 belt
-Devils own progressive meth kit
-CX Racing heat exchanger
-Option B cooling system
-fast28 Dyno Tune
Total cost: $1,500ish installed

That all should put me at about 270-280whp, basically maxing out the stock supercharger. I'll start saving the moneys and if I care to go faster, then it'll either be the ZZperformance twin-charge kit (around $3,500 installed) or the Hahn stage 5 turbo kit ($4,000 and need to install myself)

Looked into winter rims all ready as well. $500 shipped for a set of 16" steelies and good winter tires, so I'll be ordering those before too long. I'm not getting stuck on performance tires again in the winter... it's the whole reason i wrecked my damn neon.

with the 16's clear your brakes?

i bet that little car with 270hp will be a bit o fun.

by Mr Josh Zombie
yup, 16" is the smallest i can go. and i figured 270 should make me happy enough. i don't street race, i don't drag race, i just like having a mildly fast car, and that's the safest, fastest, and most reliable set up i can go with.
