The Red Baron - It's almost like it's spring
I thought that in the spirit of Carlisle coming up, even though I cant make it, that I would submit the latest picture of my neon and let everyone know I still proudly call myself a Neon owner. Really the only change since my last big change (lowering) is I finally tinted the windows this week.
About a month ago I was driving down I675 in Dayton, and caught a pothole while I was changing lanes (rather quickly). Was enough to do this to my wheel.
So if any of you know a good wheel repair shop in the Dayton area, let me know!
And I'm still trying to at least support the club. Despite not being at the last two shows, I'm reppin' the stickers!
there it was, short and sweet. Sometime this summer I'm adding either megan's or BC's to my suspension setup. I'm really tired of replacing struts 2 times a year and the shitty ride, so I'm just gonna do it right and pay for the good stuff. The progress rear sway bar from MP is on the list as well. Those two things should get her driving good and straight.
Yet again, sorry I'm not gonna be able to make it to Carlisle. One of these summers I'm not gonna be so tied up again. I promise Gramps!

Shoot, we were hoping that you would be able to make it this time. If nothing else, can we do another Dayton meet before the end of the year? sounds like a plan to me. I'll see if I can't get a date together, and maybe a cooler meet up place.
With that in mind, would any of you be able to do a friday evening meet? There is a HUGE car meet at a nearby restaurant/vacant parking lot EVERY friday during warm weather, and I am pretty sure it's just a big impromtu thing. We could meet up and represent the neon scene!
And it's official. I get paid friday, and I'm either buying new wheels and tires, or getting my Megans, FINALLY.
and on another side note, have any of you heard of CKRacing? just noticed their coilovers on ebay, was wondering what anyone's heard. I didn't really see anything when searching.
and thank you Neon Parabola, much appreciated!

I really liked where we met up the last time but, if it means that the next meet will really happen and people will show up, I'm down for wherever you want to have it. And Saturdays work better for me- just have one Saturday scheduled a month so that leaves three open unless I want overtime. What's ironic is that my new Saturday route goes from Indy to Huber Heights and Dublin and then returns to Indy so I'm close by frequently, just not in my Neon.

Interesting. I take it you spend a lot of time on 70? I work just up 75 in vandalia. We should hook up for lunch some time.Midnight_Rider wrote:I really liked where we met up the last time but, if it means that the next meet will really happen and people will show up, I'm down for wherever you want to have it. Let me throw around some dates and see what works for me this fall, then I'll start up a meet thread. Sound good? I just need to figure out what month to do it...

No lunch- I'm in the area between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. and my schedule doesn't allow me to take a break. Would have been nice though.ejclide wrote:I take it you spend a lot of time on 70? I work just up 75 in vandalia. We should hook up for lunch some time.

Alright folks, I need some advice.
I'm looking at purchasing the Pacesetter exhaust on MP to replace my stock exhaust. What's really bothering me about the stock one is how the tips sag so far below the bumper. Does this look funny to you guys as well? And do any of you know about the exhaust to know if it's going to fix my problem? I would assume so since the tips go on last.
anyway, this won't happen for a month or so. Tomorrow is goodie day. I get my car back from the shop (still having speed sensor problems after replacing it twice), and my new toy is arriving at work tomorrow. Here's a hint. It's from MP as well and weighs 60 lbs....

Your exhaust hangers may need "adjusted", or the rubber isolators might be stretched.
IDK, my only past experience with Pace setter mufflers is they rusted out in a year.

so much for my weekend update.
I'm still having problems with the transmission (Really wishing I had a stick right now). Speedo has stopped working pretty much entirely. Car won't shift out of 2nd even when I erase the codes. And now to top it all off, my gas gauge is fluctuating as much as a quarter of a tank when I accelerate and decelerate.
I'm getting 3 codes regularly:
Transmission Control Circuit Malfunction
Output speed sensor malfunction
incorrect 1st gear ratio
As I said, the output sensor has been changed a couple times. the shop that has the car now put a chrysler part in to see if it helped and it did not.
Do any of you have any Ideas?
Anyway, the goodies that I wanted to take pics of and show you guys were the progress rear sway bar (now installed), my new BC's and the new Motegi's. Looks like pictures will be on hold until I get the car back. I really can't wait to see what the car is like with the BC's on there.

Usually a flow charts #1 place to start is wiring for open circuits and or shorts to ground. On auto's there is a PCM for the transmission shoved in the passenger side wheel well at least on 2000-2002 ( unsure for NGC ). I would do a continuity test for all wires from there to main PCM to start.
If not applicable to 03-05 I would check from PCM to trans harness.

TCM/PCM are one unit.
It is either a bad wire, or prolly internal. If the output sensor isn't fixing it, then it has to be a PCM or wire problem.
Or the parking sprag is so gunked up it won't read, but I doubt it is that. It would still see the tops of the "teeth"
Or you have a clutch slipping. If you have been resetting the "TCM" for a while, you might have fried a clutch. They are designed to go into limp mode to prevent burning up clutches. If too much fluid volume is needed to engage any of the clutches, it goes to limp mode.
P.S. Tell your girl Happy Birthday. That is if Mary is still in your life.

Bill, you were right on with the wiring issue
So after two weeks of my car sitting at the shop waiting for them to get to it, they pull it in at 5:30 last friday and find out the plug for the Output sensor is bad. I guess I should really just kick myself for not picking up on that one....
Anyway, once I got my car back, Saturday became coilover day. I also had the shop put my new progress sway bar in since I broke a bolt off in it and didn't feel like drilling it out.
Here's the pics of the new wheels and the new stance.
I'm taking the car to a local performance shop to get aligned this week. I'm going to have them lower the rear a little. Oddly enough, the front sits lower than before but the rear higher. I'm sure some of you have noticed this before.

So I'm hoping to get some input from you guys
I've been offered a deal from a buddy. An '03 SRT, Flame red, 120k. He wants 6500 for it, and I'm having a hard time saying no. Two issues:
1 - I'm not 100% sure what to be looking for with this car. The known issues he says are it needs a clutch fork, a front right strut, a tune and some valve cover bolts
2 - Is this even a good deal?
I was figuring that I would try to buy it, put my suspension setup in it (my BC's, Mopar front and rear strut tower bars, Progress sway bars front and back), then keep the Red Baron as my DD.
The other issue is payment. I might have to sell my car to pay for it. I don't even know where to start valuing it right now.
I'm just looking for feedback, so if you guys have any thoughts run them by me

Is it modded? What kind of shape is the body in? Need tires or suspension parts? Excellent value in Ohio is only $5100 for a SRT. The price goes down from there if it's not excellent. I myself wouldn't pay that much for it.

Just spend the extra 2500 and buy my yellow 03 Stage 3 SRT with 79,000 miles. It has turbo toys, and stage 2 coils. Not to mention a bran new Wikyd Performance TOB fork

Body is in great shape aside from a little clear peeling on passenger side top of door. Everything seems to run well. It needs a front right strut, the usual control arm bushings, and he said its running rich. I'm gonna take a deeper look at it tomorrow and maybe drive it. We will see. I can't believe he paid 8500 for it.
And as far as mods, I know it's got a boost controller running off the factory turbo. Beyond that I don't know much. I'll take notes and update you guys.

i wouldnt waste my time with it if i was you. Nowadays you can find a srt4 for that price he is selling his thats in perfect condition. trust me. i still look them up weekly to see what prices they are selling at and i always see them anywhere from $5k to $7k for good condition.

So, while I don't own an SRT, I did get a few things done this weekend...
^^Any guess what this is?
^^If you guessed the nut for the sway bar bracket on the drivers side, you are correct. I snapped the bolt removing it, so I drilled a hole, and went to use an easy out.... until the easy out snapped in the hole. Since the easy out is hardened steel, I couldn't get anything to drill it out. So, I just broke the nut out that was welded in, grabbed an M10 nut and bolt, and now I have a bigger bolt holding it in. I could actually get a wrench in the access hole to hold the nut in place. Yay.
This was the real reason for all the work
While I was doing the passenger side I thought I'd go ahead and replace this...
I could have sworn that I took a picture of the Dogbone lower mount, but I guess I didn't. Oh well.
on a side note, once I was all done with this I started the car and backed it out of the driveway and parked it in the street. about 20 minutes later I got out to the car to leave, and now it won't start. Fuel pump primes and the electronics inside all work. Just no ignition and no crank when you turn the key. You can crank it over jumping the starter relay, but it won't run. Seems like no fuel or ignition. The car is at the dealer right now and we'll see hopefully soon what it is.
