I slid on packing peanuts while going 174.5 MPH backwards which caused the car to spin out of control, flip end over end 70 times and then I hit a deer. The car would've been drivable but the wheel studs broke off and I nearly died. I got the car towed home, wiped the dirt off my hands and got a lift to work to carry on my business.

In all candor... I haven't been updating this. It is getting to be a PITA to upload photos to photobucket becauae their mobile app sucks, and the Facebook app works pretty nicely so I've been posting there mostly. not a ton has chaned with this car, but if all goes well big changes are coming in the next month or so...
Oh, and I bought another SRT-4 last weekend...

I can get a few up, but oh don't worry it's not much to look at. It was a front end collision I bought from a friend to part out. Originally wanted it because he bought it being told it was Mopar Stage 3. It's not... oh well, price was right.Midnight_Rider wrote:Well, for the benefit of old farts like me who don't do FB, I hope that you will do the old-fashioned thing of posting pics here so that I can enjoy seeing the new wheels.sidepipe87 wrote:Oh, and I bought another SRT-4 last weekend...

No new updates, but I recently saw my car at my sister's house where it has been sitting since I brought it home from Carlisle. I never posted pics in here but I got a few pieces powder coated Hemi Orange this past summer before Carlisle including my Mopar Stage 3 turbo.
I got the Stage 3 kit installed and buttoned up the night before I left for Carlisle. On the drive out I found out I had 0 boost and the car sounded like it was supercharged so I either have a massive boost leak or I put the turbo back together wrong after having the housing powder coated and blew it up. Either way, I need to get that resolved before Carlisle this year hopefully... Plenty of other projects have higher priority though.

Re: sidepipe87: A few overdue updates
Well, I decided to sell my silver neon... tired of seeing it sit. The new owner came and picked it up yesterday. I got $7500 for it. Hopefully it went to a good home

Wow, a big change from a little over three years ago. I hope that the new owner treats the car well- not like, "it's just a Neon".

Re: sidepipe87: A few overdue updates
I believe David meant it as "just a cheap econo box" not worth much more than a Yugo, more so than "the SRT being just a neon".
Best of?
Not.
Most powerful from the factory, yes. Power doesn't make it the best. SRT's didn't even have Speed Control in stock form. The R/T and ACR's could out handle it in stock form.
I bet if the ACR and R/T's had 170 to 180 hp/ftlb of torque out of the box with a 2.0, the SRT would have never happened.

Re: sidepipe87: A few overdue updates
I think the new owner is treating it right. This is a picture from the new owner who had it posted up on a Facebook page. Seeing as it's in a garage, I believe it will stay in good shape.Midnight_Rider wrote:Wow, a big change from a little over three years ago. Re: sidepipe87: A few overdue updates
Yeah, he promised me it will stay in that climate controlled garage and will basically be a nice weather weekend toy for him. For me it had become a "annual state inspection and Carlisle toy with a hefty side of car insurance". The other 360 days of the year it sat in my sister's garage. I will miss it dearly, I put a lot into that car over the past 10.5 years but I think it was time to move on.

Re: sidepipe87: A pandemic miracle
Well Carlisle 2021 has come and gone now and along with that, I have another update to share for those of you that weren't at the show and aren't on Facebook.
As you all know, I sold my silver neon in 2018. Well the events leading up to this post involved a bit of trolling with the help of Canada (Chris Reid). The backstory to this post is that Canada posted a photo of my old neon on the 2gn.org Facebook group as it was spotted on the Carlisle Showfield. Below is that photo and then the story to follow.
EDIT: I don't know why my images aren't showing anymore. I have disabled hotlink protection for my domain but you can only view the images directly in the browser...

Facebook 2gn.org Post wrote:Hey Christopher Reid we finally figured out who drove my old neon to Carlisle. As it turns out it wasn't really the rear end in the Duster that was causing the issues that were preventing me from bringing it. It was the fact that it is sitting in the corner of my new garage buried behind stuff, anndddd the fact that I've still not done any more work to get it road ready. Whoops! Bringing the Journey was out of the question though and the Challenger makes for a boring car for the trip so I needed to find something else to bring. It turns out I did in fact find something else to bring 346 days ago. Man has it been hard to keep this under wraps for a year
I started looking for the car last June out of curiosity and someone helped me track it down (you know who you are... thank you). Once I found the owner he told me my timing was unreal as he was just about to list the car for sale. After a short deliberation it was decided I was going to buy the car back and shortly thereafter Ann and I drove down to VA on July 29, 2020 to go bring her back home. I was relieved to find out the car was mostly the same as when I sold with a few minor exceptions. This photo is from when we showed up to see the car that day. I may not drive the car much but I am happy to have it back.
if you love someone let them free; if they come back to you it was meant to be.

Re: sidepipe87: A pandemic miracle
There we go, pictures should load again! it was an issue with my hosting provider not giving me SSL access and the forum is apparently now forcing all HTTP links to HTTPS and I did not have HTTPS so it just failed... anyway, got that straightened out so the photos show now.
Regarding the car and the story... my wife and I had fun with it. It was very hard trying to keep it under wraps for almost a full year! Only a small number of people knew about it. One of them being my buddy that let me store it in his "barn" for the winter... concrete floor, fully enclosed, but still dirty. No mouse damage because apparently his cat was in that barn a lot! If you look closely there are cat paw prints on the rear glass...
He used to own a few Neons but has moved onto Vipers now. He told me I could drive it but I declined. Makes me nervous driving someone elses car that is worth that much. Here are a few photos of the neon in the barn and Cory's Viper.
