One of these days I'll learn to never ever ever trust the body shop when they tell me something...
Got a call from them at about 5 to noon today telling me that the car would not be done today since they only ordered the bumper not the fender (after telling me that they were going to replace BOTH at the same time) and the bumper isn't fitting properly yet.
So on Monday I might possibly have the car back, but of course since they didn't let me know early enough... I'm now without a fucking car all weekend, since Enterprise closed at noon.
I am so fucking livid right now, it's not even funny...

I know sometimes shit happens, so I wouldn't mind much if they'd have told me early enough that I could have gotten a rental car.
As it is now, I have no car for the weekend, no food for the weekend, it's way too cold to walk to McDonalds every mealtime, AND there's a car meet going on tonight I was planning on going to... so now I have to ride with a friend up there which sucks! I hate not driving!

Just got off the phone with the body shop. They are open late this week since they're closed for Thanksgiving, and the car will be "done" by 6 o'clock. I'm heading out as soon as I get off of work (7 minutes) with me luck!!!

Aaaaand just got a call from the shop saying the guys who are working on the car are having issues, and it won't be done until late if at all tonight
And to think I just told myself to never trust the body shop... just the other day... ugh...

CAR IS DONE!!!!!!
They put it on the frame machine a few times to make doubly sure it was perfect, so there won’t be any more problems with it.*
Front lip is on, side skirt is on, panels line up almost perfectly, headlight gap is gone, I’m as happy as I can be I suppose. The owner, Arnie, told me that if/when I bring it back to have the dent in the right rear quarter panel done, he’ll give me some cash off the normal price, AND do some touch ups on the car at no charge. (pass side skirt has a gap at the back, rear lip is starting to fall off) so we’ll see about that probably after Christmas when I have cash again.
Only thing I’m not so sure about is the headlight repair. The bumper still doesn’t fit perfect, so they drilled new holes in the core support to mount it, moving it a bit forward. It looks OK, I’m just not sure about the methods of it…
*This is what the owner told me, I think they didn’t want to work on it any more, so they tried to figure a cheap/easy way of making the headlight fit, personally.

Well, I found out more about how they got the headlight to line up today... drilled two holes to move it forward, we knew this.
Today I went to replace my headlight bulb in the pass. side and found out that they pinched one of the LED wires between bumper and fender, that was fun.
They also put a screw in the back of the headlight to push it forward. I was so pissed off I could barely speak... but then again what did I really expect?
This summer I'm going to rip the front end off the car, replace the hood hinges, and have the structural work reinspected by another shop to see how well it is actually done. I want to do this because I'm still not happy with how crumpled the passenger side looks. Plus the fender is rusting and the paint is chipping already, so that won't last too much longer.

Does anybody know what "within spec" actually means to a body shop? I've known the car didn't seem right from the get-go but when I went to install my strut tower bar last night, I found out it doesn't fit! The towers are too close together for the bar to bolt on.
After some research (thanks BRR!) I found out that the stock spacing of the towers is supposed to be 43.35" from center to center on the rear mounting hole.
Mine is 42.75", over 1/2" closer. Now I know that "within spec" gives a bit of fudge room, but I was thinking more like 1/8 to 1/4 inch, can anybody confirm this for me?
Needless to say if I find out for certain that this is NOT within spec, I'm having a few estimates done to have this fixed properly, then I'm going back to the insurance company and getting them to let me get it fixed right once and for all somewhere else... I'm tired of the bastards at the body shop half assing my car!

Unfortunately I think at this point you might want to take the car to another "reputable" shop to get an estimate on getting the "repairs" fixed correctly and the car returned to specs. Then talk to a good lawyer (and the new shop) on how you can get the other company to pay for the repairs.

Amen..... I would definitely find another body shop, even if it means paying yourself, to get it DONE and DONE RIGHT, unfortunately.TheRandom1 wrote: Needless to say if I find out for certain that this is NOT within spec, I'm having a few estimates done to have this fixed properly, then I'm going back to the insurance company and getting them to let me get it fixed right once and for all somewhere else... insurance company is not on your side... they are on the side of trying to get it done as cheaply as possible....TheRandom1 wrote:Well, my sister in law is a lawyer, so I'm gonna have her send the insurance company a letter and see what happens if it comes to that.

That in there lies the problem... Cheap and properly do not go hand in handTheRandom1 wrote:Cheaply as possible is OK... if it's done properly, and this wasn't.
