Oh...it's pure sex alright! Just installed the JonnyMopar bushings. Tightened the side-to-side quite a bit
TheRandom1 wrote:Damn... if Dodge puts one of those in a new car, that is EXACTLY how it should look! Very nice work my friend. It's like you do this for a living or something!

Thanks Sean! Yeah, it's nice to be able to do your own interior work for sure! I was scared of how the driver's side would come out with that big thumb mold in it, but with the right equipment that I have access to, it came out beautifully! It could probably be better on the edges if I wanted, but for now, it looks great.

Like I said hun I love the wrapping that you did with it, and I like the shifter itself. But for me, even though its ergonomically correct and shifts amazingly, its just way too high. Aesthetically the height kills it for me.
Get workin' on that damned package tray! -.-

Thanks hun, I know you don't like how tall it is. I'm hoping the new boot with tie everything together. And yes, next week I will be workin on the package tray so I can put my rear seat back in, as well as the C-pillars. I also have to get the subwoofer enclosure wrapped in the trunk material.

Yeah, I'm hoping it will look okay with the raised pivot point...we'll see next week when I make it up.

That new shifter looks funky as hell, but for some reason I like it lmao.
And yes, don't worry supertrick, the shifter you sent me will be nice and cozy. My modding hobby will be coming along slowly, but I'll get there eventually. The STS is going in as soon as I get it, so I'll post pics.
Keep up the good work man, lovin the car.

just read through your thread, and damn, what a job you've done! everything looks so perfect! the only think i'm not 100% on is the hvac/radio area, looks a little plain, but I've never completely liked the look of not stock radio's, as they don't seem to flow.....idk, just my opinion, but other wise everything looks great!

Trust me, it is

That's why my own STS sits that high. I used a PT Cruiser shift rod to make mine, and it comes out to the same overall height as Brodie's. In fact, I based the geometry of his STS on mine, which is called a Maddog BigDog STS.

Thanks guys! I don't plan on doing much else to the interior, other than re-painting the gauge bezel, put a few more gauges in SRT dash pods, re-cover the door accent panels, redoing the armrest, and wrapping my steering wheel with silver stitching. Some of that will be done over this winter, others will be done next spring. All will be done within the next year
Today I played around with making a pattern for the new shift boot. I forgot my silver thread (again), but I have it in the car now, so I won't forget it. Tomorrow I may have a new shift boot...but I may have to do a few trial runs with some crappy vinyl first. Oh, and the boot will probably be made out of the same vinyl I wrapped the shifter handles in.

Yeah, I gotta save as much leather as I can for the steering wheel project. As soon as they send another shippment of leather out to the sciver at work, I'll send some of my leather and re-wrap the shifter handles in leather instead of vinyl, so the handles and the wheel both match.

Holy Shit yo.. That's a pretty damn cool shifter. What kind of cover are you using for the base?

Thanks yo!

I'm gonna begin making it tomorrow. Using an SRT boot ring, I'm going to make my own custom shift boot (like I've been doing, but specially fit for this shifter). It will be challenging, but I like a good challenge once in awhile

I'll take my camera to work tomorrow so I can document it for y'all!

Well today I got workin on the new shift boot for the Maddog/Hurst Pistol Grip shifter. I pretty much got the pattern and everything down, I just need to tweak the sewing margins and such to get it perfect. I did sew one today, but the handle couldn't get through the top hole (need to widen it just a tad) and it ripped, so i must do it over. I didn't put the trim ring on it because I was just testing it to see how everything fit, and once I make the next one, everything should be perfect. Here's a few pics of today's progress:
You can see the hole left open right behind the shift rod so the handle could fit through, but it just wasn't quite big enough. I think when I get the new one sewed up, attached to the trim ring and installed, it's gonna look quite pleasing. I hope I'll have another update on this tomorrow. Thanks for lookin!

Something you may not have thought of...
Maybe for that last little bit of an opening that you need to get it over the shift knob you have buttons, laces that you tie up or something along those line to close the widened opening.... just an Idea I had.
Regardless your work is superb.

A nice silver shoelace type of deal could make that look nice. Like a present waiting to be unwrapped!

There's a lot of vinyl on the back of the boot...I should have cut a lot of that off before I sewed it, but too late now!
I added the excess material to clear the higher pivot point, but with the boot installed, looks like I didn't need it...

Hmmmm, not bad but not what I was expecting... Not sure what I was expecting, but I think maybe I was thinking it would be a "looser" fit, meaning it would fold up over itself, then back down. Not as tight fitting as it looks. Either way, you do good work!

I'll probably end up redoing it someday, and that might look something like that...but like I said...for now, it's okay.

Not trying to be an ass, but the shifter reminds me of something that would belong in a truck or a muscle car.
You did superb work. those picts also make me realize how crappy the interior is in our cars.

Are you trying to say the shifters are too big and bulky?
Not all shifters have to be short to have a short throw.People who have driven my car with my HURST setup love it because of the positioning of the knob...
