Do you have a project going or will you be starting a project here very soon and just want to keep a log of everything you and when? Share with everyone every step of the way what sort of progress you are making on your project.

Gunmetalneon's pile. So I couldn't do it...

Post by GunmetalNeon » Fri Jan 02, 2009 12:40 pm

So I've had this car through everything and I finally decided to do a project log. I first bought my 2003 Dodge Neon SXT for $8,000. The original plan for this car was to be a good economy friendly car for driving back and forth to school.

At first I told myself I wasn't going to do anything to the car, but we all know how that goes. I got a full srt body kit, lowering spings, intake, full stock srt exhaust(too loud and gross sounding on a non-boosted car), and a 75-shot of nitrous.

First pictures of my car

Then NITROUS!!!

Not only did the car make a big cloud of smoke, blow up the intake manifold, throttle body, and still beat the bike....

Motor was toast!!

So I found a Magnum motor on ebay that was in chicago for $500 picked up. Me and my buddy BlackRT? started the swap on a friday night. We had the car at the track on sunday that same weekend running nitrous lol.
Couple test drives around the block.
Image
Image
Then I decided that I was sick of people thinking my car was an srt-4 and thinking it was faster then it looked so i sold the body kit, hood, and suspension.
Here are some winter pictures of it.

I wanted to go turbo, so I saw the post of the asp turbo kit.

Here's the car all ready to go to ericks

After a couple of visits and a couple months of a suspended license.

First turbo setup with the stock motor.

The kit ran great, but because I had reused the stock headbolts the head lifted and blew the headgasket. The oil and coolant mixed and the wristpin seized the rod to the piston. It also messed up the cylinder wall and melted the side of the piston.

So I decided it was time. Me and erick put this motor together in my garage. I also ordered a new suspension, my slicks, rims, new valve springs, comp 400 cam, head studs, and cometic head gasket. Luckly I had my first motor laying around and I used that with the magnum head. Oh and I got the borg warner s256.

New exhaust is a little big

My new turbo is on top, the master power turbo is on the bottom.

Some lady turned into a flower shop without using her turn signal and the guy following her slammed on his breaks and I went under his rear bumper. Here are some pictures of it when I got it back...

CBR 600 was the bike I beat. It was his first time at the track so it wasn't really that fast that day.

Yeah, but I after I sold the body kit I wasn't planning on going turbo. I was planning on keeping the car stock, but it didn't go that way lol.

Yeah stuff blows up just because it's a neon and I'm just that badass lol.

Here are some racing videos on a 1/4 mile marked off country road. They are dark, but the cars are coming towards you and the camera man is on the left side of the road so the cars pass on the right....

Me vs. a guy in an srt-4 heads up. He said it's stupid to turbocharge neon's, because they will never be as fast as srt's. It was for $60. (I'm on the right).
Image

Me vs. a 2.4 DOHC Cavalier on a 100-shot of nitrous. Race was for $60 and the camera is the same as the video above.

Kind of amazing how projects seem to spiral out of control so quickly isn't it? lol

Yeah I can't wait to get a fuel return and get my manifold bolted on. I finally finished putting on the mopar lip kit. I'll get more pictures of how it sits now. There's a couple little things I've done different.

Yeah things spiral out of control fast. Oh well it gives me something to do, besides work and school lol.

What a fag.

Looks like you lost though since you were in the right lane. Or my mind could be playing tricks on me due to the crappy video.

I would like to see 500whp on a 2.0 Mag motor..

No I won. The cars go past on the right of the camera man. I also don't have blue headlights. If you watch it enough times you will eventually see it and it's actually not a bad video. I was in it until the 1/8 mile then go completely out of it. You can tell, because the open dump isn't screaming. I beat him by a couple buses, because he can't drive lmao. I was in the left lane so Im on the right coming at you.

I didn't mention this in the thread yet for some reason, but I brought the car to the track and babied it out of the hole and ran a 13.4 at 116 mph on 13-14 psi. It had street tires, open diff, a walbro 255 with a stock regulator, and no return line. This year I will be running 1000cc injectors, r/t ernie intake manifold, hopefully some type of limited slip, and maybe an ms2 chip
