275s...damn...I'll be ording some new tires soon too. You're a Dunlop guy right? happen to know if they make any 225/45/16?

I'm normally a Dunlop guy. But with the EVO I've owned Yokohama, Kumho, and the 275s are Nitto NT05's.

The 225/45R16 is an odd size. I don't think there are any performance tires in that size... Dunlop Definitely doesn't make any.

225/50R16 has several choices for a performance tire. Including the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec, Hankook RS-3, Kumho XS, Yokohama AD08, and Bridgestone RE-11.

Discount tire called to tell me that the nitto nt05 were on back ordered and I had to switch back to the kumho xs. Oh well.

Some of you know but for the rest of you, I had a flat tire on Sunday morning. I filled the tire up and went to work. I thought it was just a nail or something in it as my store is next to a Home Depot and It's happened before. I waiting until Monday to take it to a tire shop because I had left my lug key in my garage. Every couple hours I would lose about 5 psi in the tire.

At the tire shop they couldn't find anything wrong with the tire and asked me if I was sure I had a leak. I told them that I was losing about 5 psi every couple hours and over night the tire would be flat. They asked me to come into the shop for me to watch while they put my Wheel into a tub of water. He rolled the wheel around and water started to bubble up around the outside edge.

Turns out the wheel is cracked.

This is the same wheel that I turned into an EGG after I had that incident with the washed out road a few months back. I had the wheel fixed and I have put about 8,000 miles on it since then. Looks like the crack is right at the point of impact.

I emailed WheelDude.com and asked them how much 1 wheel would cost. They quoted me $237. No Biggie, but the wheels are on back ordered for 6 to 8 weeks

The Big Question now is what do I do? I have my stock wheels and tires on right now but the stock tires are toast and have almost no thread left on them. They aren't going to last a month, let alone 6 to 8 weeks.

Do I....

Buy new tires for my stock wheels?
Buy new wheels that my brand new 275/35 tires will fit?
See if anyone in town can weld it up and take a chance on autocrossing and driving hard on a rewelded wheel.
Wait and see how long I can go with my current stock wheels and tires.

Uggh.

I vote for try and see how long the stockers will hold out.

Or, do you have a used tire place near you? The local tire shop near me will sell used tires in decent shape for 25 bucks each. Not a great option, but it would be the cheapest and will get you through until your good wheel comes in.

I say buy a beater neon for 2 months to drive around. Then when you get back into your evo, you'll love it even more.

Honestly, get around on the stock wheels, just don't drive like a jerk. You'll make it.

It never rains in Florida anyway, you don't need traction. It's good to know you pwn'd that wheel before and it didn't just crack under it's own stress or something. Sucks nonetheless.

That's probably my biggest worry with my stock wheels and tires. The last time I had them on it was almost impossible to get any traction in the rain and if there was standing water on the road it was ultra scary.

I'm also glad it wasn't the other wheel that wasn't damaged during the incident. The fact that it's the wheel that was an Egg makes me a bit more comfortable and less mad with the situation. I do know someone out there is going to cry some bullshit about Rota wheels being garbage because of this.

I was pricing some things out

New tires for my stock wheels - $550
New Rota P45R wheels 18x9.5 - $900
Waiting 6-8 weeks and riding out my stock tires - $240

Part of me wants to get new wheels because of all the bad luck I've had with these wheels.

You can't get rid of those, you'll lose your rc car status!!!

The P45R wheels have the same concave look with the same 20mm offset.

Go with the P45r then, fuck it. They look sexy. They're concave because they're meant for a "rear" fitment are they not? I thought that was why some wheels had 2 designs with one being an R. For RWD applications.

Yea.. They have the P45R which is for RWD and AWD fitments and the P45F which is for FWD.

Hmm.. I think I'd go with the hyper Black rather than the solid black.
