Newlite's 01' ACR..2.4 I'm back guys!!!
Well guys, i completely stumbled onto a 2001 ACR the other day. I went and looked at it yesterday and it needs some love. More cleaning than anything but the bottom end of the engine will need replaced as well due to hydrolock. I am picking it up early next week and plan to have it going by the end of next month but that brings me to the decisions i have to make.
I already have an 01 rt which is my daily but my wife wants it so i am going to be driving the acr. If you havnt seen my other log, i was planning on swapping a 2.4 into the rt but if my wife takes it I will just put it back to stock. My thinking was I could use the magnum parts off the acr motor to bing my rt back to its original state ( I sold off the magnum stuff from the rt) and while we still have two running cars i could go ahead and perform the 2.4 swap into the acr. By doing this i wont be in as big a hurry to get it going which will mean better more therough documentation of the swap. So the question is...do i swap the acr or should I restore it back to stock???

i could but with the r/t she gets all the options whereas with the acr she wont. I dont mind roll up windows n' such and I had planned on racing in scca so which ever car I build...I will be taking some things off. The r/t is almost too nice for me to justify this where the acr was made for it.Tam wrote:Why can't you give your wife the ACR and you continue with the R/T?
Still up in the air though.

Actually, the guy that had it put some rt skirts on it. He got them at a jy not too long ago and cut the inner fender wells cus he didnt know they went over em . I dont know if I am going to leave those on or not. He also put an "aftermarket" spoiler on it, got rattlecan feaver on the interior, and put ebay coilover sleaves on which destroyed the dynamics! I now has kybs with the stock springs back on it though.
Like i said, this thing needs some love. On the phone he made it sound like it was perfect but that was a stretch. It needs cleaned really bad, i need to find replacement interior parts, and I need to wet sand and buff the passenger side of the car. Car was repainted and he couldnt afford to have the whole thing completely finished so they stopped at the passengers side. Everything thing else looks ok but I am going to have to do some touch ups here and there.

It does have ac but that is the only option it has that I saw. I think my mind is made up. im gonna go ahead and build the acr. I just think the rt is too nice, plus the wife loves it. The acr is red and she doesnt like red cars.
So i guess the next step is to take some pics of it. This will be the acr log. My other log will be finished out once I get all the part off/back on it.
Thanks for the input guys!

I know.....when I pulled up to see it I knew right away this was going to be a rescue. The interior is so dirty that it looks like the guy drove this thing on a dirt road....tailgateing a semi....for a hundred miles. I am going to remove everything down to the carpet, including the carpet and clean what can be saved the right way.neonpla wrote:poor little guy

Soooo let's see:
-Replaced the good suspension with Ebay sleeves....check
-Beat the crap out of the interior...check
-The bottom end is hydrolocked...check
I don't know...You have a lot of work to do if you are even planning on getting it back to stock form, not to mention 2.4 swap. Good luck with whatever you do.

Yeah....it sucks that he screwed the dynamics. But atleast I am getting brand new kyb's with the stock springs plus new strut mounts cus the ebay springs screwed those too. All of that is already on the car which will be going on the rt soon enough.JeffM wrote:Soooo let's see:

The interior is nothing....little cleaning and some scavenger hunting for parts should do it well.
As for the engine...the situation doesnt scare me. I have decided to swap in a 2.4 just to have something unique but I will hang onto the r/t bottom end if its still good to keep my options open. This will literally be the 10th car I will have saved due to engine problems. It really isnt that much work when you have the facility and the right tools whether I rebuild the stock engine or swap it.
I understand that you are trying to say it might be more trouble to restore it than to just customize it. I am saying that it wouldnt be too much work either way. I am simply swaping it cus i want to. At the end of the day...it will still be an ACR.

I just got back from paying for it. Took a good look at it once I had the keys and title.....I am confident the interior will clean up well. I would say I have less than 50 bux in parts that will need to be replaced there. I need a new center bezel, two outter vents, new front, middle, and rear upper pillar covers, a fuse door, and the lower half of the gauge cluster bezel.
Exterior, I am working on a deal with a guy that is going to get me a good spoiler-less trunk lid, both passenger side doors, and the passenger side fender off of a clean red chrysler neon in the jy in exchange for the srt rims I now have. He shouldn' have more than 130 bux in that stuff but he has more time than I do. I dont want to mess with the wet sanding this car needs on that side due to time so I am just going to replace them and hope the color matches for now.
The engine, found a good 2000 chrysler cirrus with a clean 2.4 the other day. Gonna try and pick that and start the fun. I already have all the pt mounts I need. I might need to buy an srt ps pump but if I can get the neon pump to work i will.
Suspension, everything currently on the rt will go onto the acr...and the acr the rt. Stock snow flakes will go onto the rt and the rota slips on the acr.
You get the idea.
Got an engine pic for you guys comin soon.
