all the rust was cut off, all that was left for the rockers was a small lip around the door edge anything that was rusted through was cut off.
the only reason why i riveted it was bc i dont have a welder, or access to a weld.

Yup, and those cars don't drive around a whole lot other than being on that track, so that repair isn't subjected to any weather.
But, yes, on an apples to grapes comparison, this works very well.

I know you are not trying to be a dick, but it's alot easier to say things, rather than to do them. Being unemployed doesnt give you a free pass to hack up a car. I know if I wasnt working I wouldnt be spending my free time trying to fix the rust on my car and scrape by, I would be driving my beater to McDonalds and flipping burgers to make ends meet, and when I wasnt there I would be out pounding the streets trying to find something better to do. But thats just me

and you live in what state? where i live has the highest unemployment rate in the whole state, jobs are the that easy to come by and im not working at mcdonalds, i get more on unemployment in one week then i would earn in 3 at a job like that.
like i said , i know this is not the "proper" way to do this, most of the materials i have used to be doing this was given to me for free, stuff that was laying around, other than the bondo , which was like $20.
as for you saying you would find something better to do, you do not live where i do, nor do you know me or how my life is. there fore you have no right to judge me in anyway. i do this to keep me occupied , and to keep me out of trouble.

"im not working at mcdonalds"... that right there is a bit of an issue for you.
Why?
Because doing honest work looks better on your resume than blank space where you simply collected unemployment.

no bc im not taking a job for less money then i am getting, they only pay 7.25 hr and only work ppl part time, its not worth me to drive 30 mins one way , then have to pay a baby sitter for 7.25 an hr., obviously unlike some people on this site, i think about what is going to benefit more, staying on unemployment or just taking some min wage job where bc of taking a job like that i wouldn't be able to pay rent. so maybe you should look at the whole statement instead of picking piece out of it.
i have worked at mcdonalds before when i was younger, it has nothing to do with the work it has to do with the pay.

i see what u are saying chris, and i know how u feel, it is hard to find jobs this day and age, and stubien county (where i live) is also on the top of the list for highest unemployment rate in ny state...
last i knew ny did offer a "part time" unemployment, if u work at someware part time u still get money from the state... just something to think about if some did in fact offer u a decent part time job....

Illinois does that too.
I think what people are saying is that instead of fixing your car in what everybody considers to be the wrong way, you could be spending that time looking (even harder, as I'm sure you're not sitting at home not looking) for another job that will allow you the money to get it fixed properly.

i am looking, i have my resume posted online, i am registered with kelly services , penski, one stop career center along with going around to local stores, but the thing is where i live its out in the sticks, its about 30 mins to a town that has any real stores or anything and most of them are not hiring, if they are its for min wage and lucky if its for 20 hrs a week, even with part time unemployment i would be losing money, bc id have to pay a babysitter.

Consider it a summer long interview if they give you the opportunity.

Nope. Bondo sucks up moisture much like primer does, if I'm not mistaken.
