Well, The only chrome that will be disappearing soon will be the lower grille trim, since that piece doesn't transfer to the new valance. Other than that, I kind of like my chrome trim around the top grille :-/ And the chrome trim that runs around the side windows is just a rediculous task to black out, so that's a no go. But thanks for the suggestion, I've thought about it.

In other news:
Ordered the paint for the USP valance. When that gets here I'll start to DO WORK! :-D

Oh, and I've been trying to do a lot of research on exhaust systems for the 3.0L. It seems that custom is the best way to go. I've come up with the following setup:

-2.25" piping (might go catless)
-Magnaflow X-pipe
-2 12" resonators
-2 Magnaflow 14851 mufflers 2.25" - 4"tip

Should sound like this: CLICKY CLICKY

What'cha think?

Are you going to get Resoaters? That's what he has..... That actually sounds really good.

I'm hoping to have:

-The lip done and mounted
-Exhaust
-NEX Coilovers

All by Carlisle. We'll see how well that works out.

So let me understand this. you have only fixed the brakes on the car. Wow, you definitely are still a Audi virgin. The amount of stuff i have had to replace on my audi makes my neon look cheap.

Here is a quick re-cap.

Timing belt x2 ($50)
Water pump ($45)
timing belt tensioner X2 ($170)
both o2 sensors ($120, $65)
coil packs ($120)
Maf sensor ($85)
radiator ($125)
Coolant temp sensor ($25)
coolant tank ($32)
thermostat x2 ($30)
axles (front only)(knock on wood) ($160, went the cheap rout oem are 300 each)
boost control valve ($20-j/y find should have costed 120)
evap purge valve (dunno still broken, lol)
instrument cluster ($85 for spare and still need to spend 75 to get the old one fixed, still convincing i need to be able to read the center digital display)
ABS control module (still broken but a rebuild is $50 or new for $300, never did have ABS on any of my cars to date so not really missing it)

I think that's all the maintenance things. I won't go into the performance stuff. Those prices are just depressing.

I was going to start a progress log today but after looking at that list i think it would be way to depressing to total up how much i have spent on the car.

Alright,

This weekend I had some free time, so I got to work on the lip. I didn't take ANY pictures of the work involved, most because I was so frustrated with everything going wrong that I just wanted to get it done. Now, I don't have the OEM grille inserts for this lip, so I had to make some out of sweet Home Depot stretched metal and door trim. The side grilles didn't come out right, so I just ended up substituting my old inserts on the sides. Hopefully I will be able to afford the real inserts soon.

Overall, I like the look, but I feel I could have done it better. Tell me what you guys think!

...It is painted...

Like I said, the entire bottom part of my car is a gray trim that, I guess, is suppose to look more 'outdoorsy'. I like it. In a weird way, I think it makes the car look less bloated.

July 3rd, 2010 - Sparkles!!!

Just thought i'd give a little Carlisle pre-game update.

So let's begin:

Fog Light Grilles

-Got my fog light grilles in and on. Not that amazing but it does clean up the front end. (pics on this later)

APR Snub Mount

-Last week I got my APR 'snub mount' insert. Basically, it's a torque dampener, that sticks on the front of the engine, to help with the vibrations in the drivetrain. After the install, I have to say I notice less whiplash in the driveline, and some of the shifts are more....solid feeling - a definite plus for me and worth the $30. It was a difficult install, but I enjoyed it.

Let's go to the pictures for more info:

All the tools I needed for the install. (the red circle thing is the snub mount)
Image

Had to remove the headlights, bumper assembly, and partially separate the front frame in order to slide up behind the radiator and switch out the mounts. The circle shows where the snub sits behind the radiator.
Image

Old mount out with the snub 'cup' and mount bracket.
Image

Old versus new. The old one is squishy while the new one is firm.
Image

And the nice blood blister I got as a prize.
Image

Paint time!!!

This weekend I decided to do some painting after changing out my spark plugs. Re-painted the front valance since some of the paint had come off; wanted it to look good for Carlisle. ;-)

Also notice the fog grilles that I wrote about earlier.
Image

Sparkles!!!

Alright, and the highlight of this update. Some of you might remember how badly damaged my 17's were damaged from the previous owner grinding along curbs. I was going to repair them over the winter while they were off the car, but never got around to it. So, after I painted my valance I decided to give my wheels a shot.

Here's the paint I picked up.
Image

Some pictures of the damage on just one of the wheels. All of them had about the same amount of damage.
Image

Prepping one of the wheels. 80, 200, 400, and 1500 grit sand paper, 3 coats of primer, and 4 coats of paint.
Image

And BAM!
Image

The coolest part about this paint I've noticed though, and Mat thought the same thing, is that in some light it's glossy, but in direct light it SPARKLES!!!; just like Mat's favorite movie - Twilight!
Image

New versus old.

In other news, I ordered an RS4 rear sway bar. It's a whopping 22mm compared to my puny 16mm bar. Only problem is - the company I ordered it from (although suppose to be a very good Audi dealer) not only didn't send out the bar for two weeks, but also lied to me about when they sent it. :banghead: I was planning on having it already on by now, but now it's looking like I won't have it until the day before Carlisle. Oh well, at least it'll get here eventually.

And that's all I got, guys and gals. Sorry if I wasted your time - Yay if my ramblings interested you. See some of you at Carlisle!!! :-D
