LowNSlow's 88 Honda Prelude SI w/ 4WS *UPDATES AGAIN*

I think I have the record for most progress logs on this forum... being different vehicles every time that is. :)

Anyhow, I picked up this 88 Prelude SI w/ 4WS for FREE.... yes F-R-E-E

I am very impressed with it...being that it is a 88 it still has a lot of options. It's got power mirrors/windows/locks/sun roof. It's got adjustable side bolsters and adjustable lumbar in the seats.

The 4WS makes this car a BLAST to drive.

The paint is in pretty decent shape for having 300k on the car but it has a few decent dings, one being in the drivers rear quarter panel. Which I plan to have pulled out eventually.

The previous owner has a note pad with all maintenance and oil changes.

I plan to continue the book :P

As of yesterday I replaced the plugs/wires/oil/filter/pcv valve. Got a new power steering pump seal to replace the old one (leaking).

Short term plans: New wheels (probably some bronze rotas), Falken Azenis tires, Eibach Pro-Kit springs, Tokico struts, new windshield, new exhaust.

^--- all of that should happen with the S2000 sells... which is hopefully soon.

Anyhow, less yapping.. more pictures from it's first "shoot"

Awesome plans man. Have you read about autocross with the 4ws yet?

by LowNSlow
Nope, sure haven't... should I be looking into that?

I would like to auto cross it a little bit....

Forgot to include that I compression tested it yesterday...and it had 180 compression in all 4 cylinders. I was stoked to see a 300k mile car have compression that even.

Not that anyone really cares...but I forgot I had this and never updated.

Since the purchase I have,
  • Replaced the sunroof glass as the old one was cracked

    Replaced the powersteering pump

    Replaced the windshield

Replaced the radio with a cheap Dual CD player (it has the usb and ipod hook up so I can charge it while I play it)

    Replaced the speedo cable

Found some OEM mud flaps at the junkyard

I tried to teach the wife how to drive a manual on the lude and I guess being that it has 300k miles that was probably a bad idea. The clutch slips really bad now so I ordered an exedy replacement.

Well it was actual some cheap ebay replacement but they use the exedy disk and NKK pressure plate.

Forgot to mention I took the pin striping off....

I purchased an Eibach Pro-Kit and some Tokico blues...which should be here in a few days.

All in All I have around a $600 car right now

What are you going to do about wheels?

And why didnt you just rip out the P/S? That car can't be but so heavy.

Not sure if I want to rip out the powersteering with 4ws.... I like the ease of turning. :) It still leaks but it' the power steering line that leaks and it gets over on the belt.. so I have a nice little belt squeel for the first 2 minutes the car is running... it's very annoying.

Wheels... not too sure on the exact set I'll be getting... but most likely a dark bronze.

Next on my list is maybe an aftermarket header -> an OEM RSX-S muffler.

These cars have a notorious 2000 rpm exhaust rattle in the header and it's because they are a two piece header.. best way to describe it would be metal inside metal...and they come apart after time and cause a rattle.

You can take a angle grinder and cut out 4 holes of the "outter" header and then reweld the outter to the inner to fix this.

Rather than paying a shop to weld it up... or paying someone to borrow a welder... I might as well just upgrade the part.

So new header + new oem muffler is next.... then wheels.

Grabs nice and gewd like it's suppose to..

Not sure if it's gonna be able to handle my mad 130hp or 120 whatever it has... :P

So did wifey get the hang of driving stick on the old one, or did you decide you'd had enough of her beating up your poor car?

Said screw it and just stick to her Titan...

New clutch is nice though... I <3

Eibach springs should be in soon.... can't wait.

Didn't you have to pull out part of the front suspension to do the clutch? Why not do the front springs at the same time?

Posted: Fri Jan 22, 2010 10:50 am
by LowNSlow
Not really enough to do the springs/struts.

Just the balljoints and axles/halfshaft.....

Most the suspension stayed in place.

Still shoulda done it all at once.

Go home and do them now!!!!!

If the damn springs were in my possession I would do them tonight.

Tokico Blues with Eibach Pro Kit...

2 finger front gap
3 finger rear gap

Not settled yet...they ride great, looks great... it's not slammed but yet it's functional and like I said, looks good.

Doesn't look dumped or anything... but once it settles itll be a little lower. Compared to before lol...

Yea I was sad when I had to let the old one go... with it falling apart more and more as I went down the street :P

Is the new one a stock replacement or an aftermarket?

Posted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 4:33 pm
by LowNSlow
It's an aftermarket one I suppose... but it looks like a stock replacement.

Just has the integra shiny tip on it... so it still looks factory but not ricey.

Which is what I wanted... a better looking and same sounding exhaust as factory.

Win...

Like I said, the butt dyno said atleast 300rwhp gains.... that's impressive for a stock replacement.
