cool job i have a question about your power for the carpc. I would have picked a Via MiniItx or micro board i but one about 7 years ago for my dodge stratus. They don't need much power to run it

i'm definitely gonna have to take a sawzall to the last few bolts in the back end that are seized...

2 crossmember bolts, 1 control arm bolt.......snapped the nuts off the crossmember bolts, control arm bolt wont budge

ok, whats your question then? The power supply is an M4ATX 12v-12v regulated power supply...

I went with the board i chose because i had a spare dual core amd cpu that's low wattage, and no miniITX boards will accept it...that and ITX boards w/ 6+channel audio aren't cheap by any means...

Awesome progress! Too many wires to deal with though haha.

Did you really need to pay the dealership to install the skirts? It shouldn't be too hard for you considering you do great work.

by sidepipe87
Well nothing here is new to me since I've been to your place several times and helped you out with the sound deadener haha. Sorry I couldn't come help you put the coils on, shit's been crazy with school.

Question. Why are you still gonna run crash bolts when you have adjustable camber plates on top now?

Posted: Sat Feb 27, 2010 4:58 pm
by NiteHawk
Thanks Tam. When i had the skirts installed, i didnt have time to do it myself and i wanted to make sure they were on for carlisle (this was 2yrs ago)...

Once I got the car back from them, I had to fix the skirts anyways.....they mounted them like an inch too low......stupid techs...

Ryan: I'm using crash bolts because the mopar crash bolts are BARELY smaller than the ones that come on the car from the factory...most crash bolts are noticeably smaller, but I honestly thought I was sent the wrong bolts, lol, that's how thick they are....the only obvious difference is they don't have the splines right under the head of the bolt...otherwise you'd never know they're not normal strut bolts...

That and I'm trying to NOT use the camber plates if at all possible, and I only have front camber plates, I wasn't paying the extra money for rear camber plates when there's already 2degrees of adjustment on the strut(slotted), plus another 3 degrees of adjustment from my adjustable control arms...

no homo but iv missed you.... lol i don tknow how many times iv said wheres nithawk... and ur bak and with a shit load of awsome pictures and progress. everything uv done is awsome. was it hard getting the dash out cuz thats what i need to do. and does this mean ur not gonna have a wheel gap??? slammage?? and how much did u have to spend on the trunk carpet.

Posted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 12:36 pm
by LilSparkPlug
Trunk carpets are around $110 for the full one that he bought. He won't slam the car I can assure you of that, and the dash is easy :D

by sxxxt
he doesn have to slam it. just no wheel gap. lol and dam on the carpet. and i NEED picts to help me with the damn dash lol

Search and destroy, but I'm sure Matt has plenty of them.

Posted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 5:27 pm

yeah i cant slam the car, the wheels are even with the fenders in the front, so i have to find a fender roller as it is..... I'm prolly going to leave a 1" gap just to make sure nothing rubs...

the dash is easy to take out. remove the 2 bolts on either side of the dash, 2 bolts under the dash (below the cubby hole), 2 bolts and 2 nuts on top of the dash, and the bolt holding the steering column onto the steering rack. after that it's just unplugging connectors and stuff like that... then the whole dash (wiring, airbags, steeringwheel, and all) comes out in 1 piece....just make sure you have help cause its heavy as shit!

trunk carpet part number is PZ42VXLAI

Here's all of the part numbers i ordered:

Part Number---Description-----------QTY

4773957--------Rear Camber kit-----2
6101283--------Crash bar u-nut-----6

did a little bit tonight.....pics soon as i shrink em

The directions for the sound barrier padding says to use spray glue, but its cold as shit and can come unstuck easily (personal experience talking), so I chose to use this double sided carpet seam tape. It's VERY sticky even when cold (to the point it felt like the tips of my fingers were going to be ripped off!), so I have no doubt it will be a better solution for me.

Image

Image
Image

Here you can see the padding in the back seat area...it's quite thick and I'm sure will block a LOT of road noise... Quiet ride anybody???
Image

I only applied that amount of seam tape for now. Once i get the pieces cut, I'll also put seam tape wherever 2 pieces meet as well.

When I'm done, the entire floor will be covered in it including the back seat's cushion area, back into the trunk, inside the doors, and up on the roof of the car.... Sure it's a LOT of added weight, but a quiet comfortable ride is more important to me.

the camber bolts, that will work for srt, and regular neons right? how much did those run you? looking really good, i would never take on that wiring mess lol

Posted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 11:12 pm
by NiteHawk
rear camber kits are $23.95 each and fronts are $29.35 each. Yeah they work for neon and SRT alike. 1 kit has 2 bolts, so you can either use 1 bolt per side, or get 2 sets and run 2 bolts per side

I ordered 2 sets of each.

Those are Dealer list prices btw...

A little update on some other projects I'm working on:

Custom LED OEM Mirrors:

Using a small strip of amber color side emitter led strips that Oznium sells and some loose 5mm wide angle amber leds, I'm going to create LED turn signals in my OEM mirrors. Along the front leading edge I will be drilling holes using a drill template with spots placed every 1/2". From there, I will glue them in place from the inside and wire them up. The LED strip will attach to the outer most curve right near the glass. The combination will give a custom, but still possibly OEM feel to the mirrors as well as be a safety mod as well making my turn signals even MORE obvious.

Custom fiberglass rear deck (this spring once it warms up):

I'm going to find a new rear deck cover, cover it in aluminum foil, then lay down a couple layers of fiberglass to take the shape of the rear deck cover. From there I'll remove the new fiberglass molding, and build up the back of it for strength, then cover the back with a layer of sound deadener and a layer of that heavy sound barrier foam (to also cushion it to prevent rattling on the car's metal). The top will be further built up around where the speakers will be mounted. The buildup will be smooth so it's not extremely obvious, and then I will take 2 6x9 speaker grille's, cover them with a medium gray cloth, and insert them over the speakers. The rear deck surface will be covered with a dark gray carpet material to try to match OEM as close as possible.

Adjustable rear control arms:

I already have these, and I built them using parts anybody can obtain from Summit Racing. They are Zinc plated steel threaded rods with opposite threads on each end, and Chromemoly heim joints. The heim joints will be protected using waterproof lithium grease and ball joint seals. To install them, I have to remove the rear knuckles from the car, and enlarge the hole for the bolt to accept a 1/2" bolt instead of the M10 bolt that's currently in it.

I'm going to have the rods, knuckles, and new rear hubs powdercoated to protect them.

Update to the CarPC Information:

- I'm starting to work on Bluetooth phone integration
- The Movie Listings part is going to have to be removed, as there's no longer a reliable source for obtaining the information online. Everyone's constantly changing their format or wont allow the plugin's maker to connect to their servers for obtaining the info.

GENUINE SRT4 ACR Seat Harness Inserts:
I'm going to attempt to install these myself. I obtained a set from danteneon after talking to him about them at the Black Friday meet we had up at my work. Let me tell you, I couldn't be happier that I bought these over the CBD units... Thanks again John!

Other Interior/Exterior Lights:
As most of you already know, I sold off the rest of my LED stock to CrystalMarie. She's building a few things for me that I'll be putting on the car soon enough (I told her to take care of everyone else first, as I'm in no hurry). Such things include finishing up a new third brake light board using 5mm wide angle leds (better output and visability), LED reverse light boards, LED Dome light board, new trunk light, and a couple other things. I'll take pics of this stuff when I get around to doing it all. I'm also going to be rebuilding my own tails, replacing a few burnt out leds, putting on new connectors, and working on hiding all of the wiring as much as I can.

Wire Tucking:

I'm going to start with the trunk harness. I'm tired of seeing it running up along the side of the trunk arm, so I'm going to run all of the wiring up through the arms instead. Nothing too difficult, just something else to add to the list of shit to do, lol...

---------

Hopefully this week I'll have MOST of the sound deadening complete (including inside the doors). At the very least, the floor will all be done and the carpet and dash will be back in the car this week.

A couple friends are coming out later this week to help me get work done faster (sidepipe87 and another one of my club's members)

Before Carlisle I'll be replacing the carpet with a brand new carpet from dodge. The one I have now originally came out of seisephiroth's donor car...It's seen better days...

Ryan decided to use cardboard to make a template to cut the foam padding for the sides...great idea :)

The roof is done mostly, just needs padding and I'm going to fill some of the bracing w/ expanding foam...

I can't thank ryan enough for all the help :)

Today we're going to work on the doors, front crash bar, roof, rear end, and if we have time, workin on getting the coilovers setup correctly...

I have pics to upload, but i'll wait till later to upload them...nothing too interesting unfortunately...

I should have the CarPC pretty much done by friday, or at least, have most of it done. There's still some things I have to program into it, but otherwise it'll all be working very soon.

After that, I want to get the sound deadening done in the doors and finish up the roof, and then after all that, I'm taking the interior trim and wrapping everything in cloth......I'm tired if seeing plastic, it's time for a change! (no, i'm not doing plaid, or some special print...solid colors or bust for me)

More to come...

But what is this I spy attached to your rear window???

Is that LED strip hidden by the headliner?
