germany: where all the neons will maybe go
germany: where all the neons will maybe go
As I thought I had to get another neon where I could work on a bit, I found a damaged 2005 SXT
So I picked it up on August 11th about 555km away from home with a trailer (many thanks to my father-in-law)
I experienced it has been owned by a soldier in germany for about 2 years and he sold it with about 27000 miles after he had an accident to a german dealer.
Looking from outside there is just a little crack in the bumper (ignoring the missing headlights ) but under the hood there is unfortunatelly a lot more out of order
Most conspicuous were a wrong throttle body, defective steering pump, missing antenna, missing washing water nozzles, 2 missing alloys, and so on.
The car stood since Feb. 07 until August 10 and has lost some parts within that time. But the engine ran and I could drive the car by its own power onto the trailer.
Back home I have been very lucky finding a neon on a junkyard nearby a week later. Here I got the antenna, nozzles and the most wanted - the entire front
Middle of september the correct throttlebody arrived
and went directly in.
The steering pump has been more difficult. I don´t now exactly
what they did with it, but the reservoir was just a piece of s...
I took the reservoir from the pump out of the blue here, but a hose in the SXT was defective and the pump
itself sounds poor. So I have been glad to receive a used pump from the states a few days later.
Days went by and I had to check some electrical issues -
we have to install a rear foglight including control lamp, seperate the rear turn signal lights from the stop lights and let them be amber.
As my "euro-neon" has a multifunctionswitch including the rearfoglight function and the cluster has the control lamp I thought
there has to be a way...
So I found out, that pin12 on the MFS-plug is unused at the SXT but delivering the power for the rear foglight and the controllamp, too (which goes to pin1 on the cluster-plug).
I took out the needed wiring from a dashboard which I got for little money meanwhile
and installed it
together with the controllamp
and one of these Switches out of my collection
and now have what I wanted to
Yesterday I putted the plates on which I hope that I finally will be allowed to wear on the SXT
and today unscrewed the front bumper and some more
so that we can do the welding until weekend.
Hopefully the weather and kids will be fine tomorow, cause I like
to remove the bumpers, batterie a.s.o.

Great - thank you very much for your kind support.
Today I had to demount the radiator and so on and found it looks not surprisingly similar to a banana
My mechanic meant, it would be better for welding to demount the radiator, condenser etc. so they exhausted the cooling and gave the neon a few cm by towing it
controller outside
and found out that the two broken lids are not the biggest problem
The result this noon
This evening a lot of more fun...
I determined the Radiator with the double-fan is not as easy to remove as the other is, except you plan to slit of your front
The only way seems to be to demount the whole block - radiator including condenser including fans.
I like this pliers a lot
you are able to unfix the waterhoseclamp blind
Next need to fix:
one of the screws for the automaticcoolerhose broke as she saw the 19 open-end wrench
Think it will be better to get a new radiator and condenser
For goodbye this evening these pictures
For the moment I would be very happy if someone could get this controllerplug for me and these two lids. For radiator and condenser I am thinking about seperating the atx-part.

yeah i recommend you just go ahead and run a separate cooler for the atx at this point, no point in chancing it with the stock one. get an mtx rad now.

Yes indeed, but not as much as for the SXT
Here are some viewtopic.php?t=52813
but I think I should not neglect my orange neon an take some more pictures next time ...

Good work!!
ehm... silly question, do you have a leftover multi-switch for a 01 with front foglight function?

First time I read this. I was wondering why you tried unscrewing them.
But like previously mentioned, just go with an MTX radiator, and a separate ATX cooler. Eliminates the oil to coolant heat exchanger problem that has been destroying a fair amount of transmissions lately. A screw extractor will get the remaining disconnect out.
I do not know what the thread size is for the connects, but if it is a special thread, just get a new one, and use the old tube to go back in.
Then cut and use a double flare tool to put a bump on the end to retain a rubber ATX hose to the external cooler. To make just a rounded bump at the end, only do the first step in the double flare procedure.
A worm clamp will hold the hose on.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn´t realized that this are fast-connects on the 2005 when I was working on it. The 2004 and below have simple connectors. I was asking chrysler and they want 17 € for one fast-connect, and 8€ for the older simple one.
We tried to get the broken screw out with an extractor but where not succesful yet. It has been pasted in originally with loctite or something. Next step is to heat it up and try again. If it fails again with need to drill it out.
Wether it will be done at least I think I had to remove the connectors anyway if I like to install a seperate tranycooler.
