Got the head back from the machine shop.

Had new guides installed and the seats cut. Had them order new valves and springs from SBI as well. All for $400!

Now all I need is new head bolts and i'm ready to put my head back on! :D Sounds like i'm finally back in action this weekend.

Okay okay! :D

Image

I know it's not much, but it's something!

I installed my valves and springs in 1:45 :D
I dunno if that's fast or slow...but it feels fast ^.^
Cams are torqued down. Well, everything except the rear bearing cap. I'm an idiot and confused 250 inch pounds with 250 FOOT pounds. For some reason I thought I could bench 250 lbs
So...i'm currently waiting for two new cam cap bolts. One broke off in the head and the other necked pretty freakin' badly :D

Thankfully removing the broken bolt was NOT a difficult procedure.

At least I did SOMETHING smart and installed NEW head bolts :P

I'm out of town on Thursday, so tonight is the last night i'm touching the engine until the 11th. I wanna work on it more, but I just don't have time. I'm really only able to do work on the weekends. And this coming weekend i'm booked :P

But when I get back to it, I get to install the timing belt and set the timing. Oh joy X3

I'm glad people are interested in updates! But don't expect another one for at least a week. I've got so much time and so little to do.

I've just been too lazy to put the solid one in XD
I'll get around to it sometime before the engine goes back in :P

Hahahah sorry for the slow progress and total lack of relevant updates. I would be the worst mechanic ever cause I just break shit and take forever :D

Back from my vacation. Milwaukee is a beautiful place. The weather was fantastic. I'm soooo not looking forward to AZ weather this weekend. Supposed to be in the triple digits again :(

Anyways, i'm not sure what's going to get done this week. I have a lot of catchup to do at work. So I probably won't have any time to work on the engine until Friday :/

But, one I install the timing belt and set the timing then i'm pretty go to bolt the tranny back up and finish this job!

Stay tune.

<3 you Gramps!

I lost one of my close friends on Tuesday. He was involved in a severe car collision. He was 29. His life was filled with amazing stories, incredible adventures and outstanding creativity and talent. He shared his love of life, affection for others and sense of humor with many wonderful people. Please keep Brian Dyer in your thoughts and prayers.

I've been exhausted over the last 48 hours. I've never lost someone close to me. There are so many emotions, I can't keep control of them. So to put my mind on something else, i'm pushing to have Serenity back on the road by Sunday.

Image
I owned that timing belt. I'll admit it took me several attempts to get it right. Mostly cause I wasn't lining up the marks on the crank gear correctly. Took me an hour to figure out I had it correct from the beginning.

Image
It's worth taking the time to clean everything before reinstalling it.

Forgot to take a picture after I installed the exhaust manifold.

More progress tomorrow.

Thank you for the support and the kind words. Things are moving slowly, but everyone is adjusting. I haven't been to work since Tuesday.

The driver of the car was released from ICU yesterday, so I didn't get any engine work done. He needed to be surrounded by friends and family. He's going through more pain and suffering than any one of us.

Thanks Crystal <3 The driver is doing so much better already.

I think i'll make a sandwich on the valve cover ;P

Let's play "IDENTIFY THIS PART"
I've been relying on memory for most of this. But...I can't remember what the hell this bracket is for O.o
Image

Also, there's a double-ended bolt on the alternator bracket.
I have the nut for it, so it's obvious something goes there. I just don't know what >.>

That bracket is for the power steering pump.

Did you have a hell of a time getting that Gates racing timing belt on? I know I sure as hell did. Hopefully I got it timed properly! Engine is looking good.
