My new project, Ian Guilly's old neon.
This is basically how it was when I got it "home".

Edit: To clarify, it changed hands a few times before it found me.

Yeah, my daughter thought so too.

The brakes aren't locked, but the lines need replaced. one is broken.

I doubt it will make it to Carlisle this year. If I spent enough to make it road worthy, I wouldn't have enough to get myself there.

About every harness has a connector to the dash panel, except the heater resistor/wiper motor harness. Bastids.

It doesn't help it sat in the weather with just a tarp and sheet metal for a sunroof cover. Plus I don't think the duct tape windsheild seal was holding up too well anymore.

A random bulge in the rear passenger area from ??? Well stupidity would be first on the list...

That's funny; my neon had a bulge in that location as well.

So what are your goals with this guy? Best of luck!

A little something to solve the hole in the roof issue.

The track is totally trash tho. :( I'm thinking the glass was pulled out the top, and damaged the track. I can't see that much carnage from normal breakage.

Painted with epoxy primer and top coat.

Image

Also cleaned up the windshield frame. Had a lot of rust at the top and corners, My guess is partly from it just being held in with tape.

I like the idea of painting the dash frame. Not that you'll ever see it, but it's better protected now, and, well...you know it's there.

John: As bad as all the unpainted stuff was rusted from the extra moisture in there, cleaning and painting were kind of necessary.

Nate: Thanks!

This is my side project I was referring to:

I LIKE the white paint on the timing gears !!
That is a good idea.

Not really just because of 'cosmetics', BUT because it makes things 'more visible' and easier to see.

I would color in the timing marks for some 'contrast', to make lining things up a little bit easier.
I'll have to do this on my own DOHC. 8) Thanks for the idea, Bill !!

So actually, it is silver paint, but the flash does make it look white. All the white on the frame and inner fender reflecting probably adds to the effect.

I really have to find some time to get back out there...

And I need to do something with that god awful dipstick handle. I was thinking something aluminum, but don't really want to fry my fingers if I need to check it hot.

Since the heater hardlines were missing, and finding a decent set has not been a success, I bought a roll of 5/8" OD copper tubing.

I took it to work, after making some guestimated measurements, and bent it. Today in the limited time I had to work on it, being Father's Day and all, I got this much done:

Still need to work this end out a bit better. Will probably go with some 45º hard sweat fittings...

Yeah, they came out much better than I expected, not having the car there to fit, and bend as I went. If only I could get a tighter radius. :)

Having an actual, if not ancient tubing bender does help. This thing is hydraulic with angle stops, but that's about it. Everything else is knowing what the take up is, and measuring with a tape.

I am still tempted to buy the one Summit has for ~$172.00, if I had the $$$. All manual power, but that one has multiple dies for round and square tubing.

"Sigh" Someday....
