2001/2003 neon race car builds
Well we had practice Saturday and Sunday. Saturday did not go very well..
Wasted the r/t motor in about 3 miles. Stupid me never opened up the oil drain back holes and ran it dry, didn't pay attention to the oil pressure gauge- it was handling SO good and made power where last years car didn't. But- Ryan had a regular sohc so it's on loan to me, and I got to throw in some good laps on Sunday
Even came into turn 3 a little hotter than I wanted to
Ryan got this bad ass pic the other night during a 1am dyno session

After 2 weeks of rain, we got another race in. And it lasted about 1 turn. Got a little sideways, and corrected. Wheels turned to the right, it hooked and shot me towards the wall. Get up in the loose shit and it's like ice, so there was no stopping.
Now it's mostly repaired, the whole right side suspension except right rear strut was bent. Off to get the ass end fixed, however it is gonna happen I don't care. The trunk floor is all bent up, the strut tower is moved only slightly, but that's ok.
And my nice tire marks on the wall

Well, two in a row again. That's 4 wins in 7 races this year! It's either winning or knocking out engines at this point hahah. Changed the trans out to a 3.55 when we put the last motor in- hasn't touched rev limiter since, and so far no engine issues.
I guess I may have had a little bit of a lead..
Gotta keep her cool between rounds on warm days

glad the new trans is helping to keep the engine together. congrats on the wins

Little update. Got to work on this gem the 4th of July. Yep, last years car. Long story short engine let go, put in a used one, piston was shot so I threw a used piston in it and the head back on it
Another hot one here, and another rad failure (#3)
Well, we solved that. Asphalt modified radiator fits perfect, 3.5" thick. Now, instead of 220-230 temps, I can run 160-165* wide open.
And this past Saturday. Going for the lead on the outside, got about a fender ahead, and I found the limits of the right front hub now. Luckily the rotor held the wheel on till I got it in the grass to slow down. No brakes and the axle not being connected means you don't slow down fast haha

Can you run Daytona hubs?
So many neons so little time.

Daytona spindles I meant. They should bolt on, and have a bolt in hub vs pressed in. Options for 10 or 11" brakes bur you'll probably stay with 10 for your wheels.

Whew, forgot to update everyone on this long project. I left off with my Hub failure, I suppose I'll start there.
Few more of these, total of 7 on the year
Some pretty days for racing. Parked next to the lady's dads ride
Even got some more boo boos. The right front tire is straight ahead, by the way
Which leads me to the ending.. 2014 was a rough year, 4 engines and one trans later we got it done. Had a great time and made a lot more new friends, even helped two ford buddies to victories this year too. But on to the good stuff.
So I'm the 2013, and now the new 2014 fwd class champion!

Daytona/Shadow knuckles will work, but you will need to shim the strut clevis. They are a perfect fit for 1gn knuckles.Daytona spindles I meant. They should bolt on, and have a bolt in hub vs pressed in. Options for 10 or 11" brakes bur you'll probably stay with 10 for your wheels.

Yeah, but it was time to move on. I could have stayed another year, but with even more inexperienced drivers coming with more junk next season I figured I would have to deal with more stuff getting wrecked and more guys crying. These cars can't take the bumping and beating some of those guys do
I did however get offered a ride in a street stock, which is mainly comprised of camaros. I also bought this awesome '02 ACR for $900 recently, so I'm not leaving neons, just on track
