99 ram "punisher"

Post by gtxtreme19 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 3:55 pm

well it isn't a 2gn neon but it is a 2gn ram so it still counts right? anyway, I got it about a year ago with plans to just drive it til the wheels fell off, a month or so later the engine died on me and had to be rebuilt.

Hughes Air gap intake, decided the stock intake was too ugly and restrictive when I was doing the engine and got this bad boy. It ended up with Wrinkle Black paint instead of the natural finish

after all that I drove it most of the year UNTIL I smashed a deer about a month ago, somehow I cant find any of those pictures. The bumper was smashed up pretty good and pushed into the radiator core support, and the passenger side headlight which got smashed. To replace the bumper is ~$600 plus all the bracing, brackets and whatnot. I added a 3 inch Performance Automotive body lift and built my own bumper for the cost of a spool of welding wire, a handful of sawzall blades, and some grinding wheels, the steel has been laying in my garage for a few years.

again in no particular order but you can probably figure it out

all that was about a month ago.

;ast week I got around to a filter and fluid change on the tranny, decided I'd tighten the bands while I had it open. The first went well enough, the second decided it didn't want to be torqued to any sort of poundage and spun freely. I'm pretty sure the band is shot but I have to drive a few weeks until I can afford a rebuild kit. I also found what looks like a broken snap ring in the oil pan, have to assume its from the OD unit. Looks like I'll have a new truck by the time I'm all done with it

I got mine direct through Hughes but I think hipotek sells them too.

You could go with the MP M1 intake I just seen one on eBay for $200

As for the heads I got them on a very good deal, some guy didn't know what he had. I only paid 200$ for the set plus a timing gasket set and tensioner pulley.

Thanks, I'll be adding some d-rings and a 12,000 pound winch pretty soon, just need to find the time to be able to pull the bumper back off. I got my transmission kit today in the mail from PATC, still need the od press tool, 6 pinion planetary, new servos, billet accumulator piston, trans-go shift kit, and a new torque converter, as soon as all that comes in this trans should be able to handle whatever this particular engine will throw at it.

Edit for pics. Notice "made in the USA" I know Gramps can appreciate the effort I had to put into that

Thanks, it still needs a lot of work but the compressor that would normally run my sandblaster is still at the small engine shop waiting on parts. When I get a compressor back it will get sandblasted and coated with raptor bed liner, then recess some lights and a winch into it.

Trades only at this point. Truck =16mpg 1gn = 28-30mpg, I drive 60 miles a day just to get to and from work, plus there's some deer damage now.

K fellas, what should I do about the rear bumper? The body lift added 3 inches between bumper and body, drilling and moving the bumper will add 3" between bumper and Reese hitch. I've thought about adding a roll pan, but I'm not sure I'll like it. I also thought about building a new rear bumper but damn its a lot of work. Someone talk me into something or other

I guess building one, am in the same boat. Was going to do a body lift this summer. I have a leveling kit right now. The best thing to do, I guess would build a bumper with tow hitch and lights in it.

Thanks fellas, I'm looking into some designs now, I can't rightly decide how to do it yet. The rear bumper is a bit of a back burner project now anyway, Monday morning the transmission decided it wanted nothing more to do with anything besides1st gear and reverse

There's 6 yards within 20 miles of me, the problem is that most trucks are upwards of 200k miles on the odometer. On top of all that most are in the yards because of trans issues, they usually mark the windshield's with what's wrong not to mention the rust belt here. The way I see it I can buy a trans that will need rebuilt soon or do this one the right way now and not have to worry about it again.

Small update. Trans is still out of the truck but I have all the parts to fix it, just need to find a weekend to get it all put together. On another note, a good friend of mine traded his truck in and decided I needed his hood more than the stealership did. Traded my flat hood straight up. The cut marks are all there to make it fully functional too, I don't know if I want to do it just yet.

Time to rebuild the trans so I figured I'd take some pics for the few of you following this

Before I cleaned it all up
Image

Pump pulled
Image

I didn't have a slide hammer let alone two so a few 5inch long 3/8-16 bolts and some larger sockets made it super easy
Image

And I'm sure this is the culprit
