Trailer Build: Pancake Hauler
Trailer Build: Pancake Hauler
my room mate & i have had this idea to build a trailer that lays flat on the ground for months. We aren't the first to do this. If all goes well we will be marketing these but we need to figure out a better name lol
here's a company out of Australia that builds a version of these types of trailers for $16k

Our design will be for a 20' trailer and be alot more heavy duty. this way we can hall just about anything with our trailer. as the build continues we will post more pics. we have just about 3 weeks to get this thing road ready....

Excellent project. Thought about building one of these myself awhile back. The problem that I ran into was that the trailer must be unhooked from the tow vehicle in order to lower. That sucks for multiple reasons outside of laziness of unhooking. Definatley interested and will follow this to see what you come up with.

Tongue is pretty much done at this point. we still have a lot to knock out before this coming weekend. Not everything will be completed on it but we will get done what we need for the weekend. now we get to start the suspension work. The last pic is the start of the swing arms.

Don't look like he'll be using an axle at all, but a "floating" spindle with a trailer wheel bearing. I'm assuming the bags push a lever out to raise the trailer or lower the wheels of you will. It looks surprisingly simple, I'm surprised someone else hasn't done it already. Great work, that's a shitload of welding, can't wait to see the finished product. Are you doing a wood deck or steel?
