2001 neon build/rebuild

Post by Bagnut » Sat Nov 23, 2013 11:07 pm

starting a project thread, the below is pasted from my intro post:

New here, just got a 2001 neon from a friend about 2 months ago. It is an ex show car, that I built for him about 9 years ago and it has sat pretty much ever since. The car has 13xxx original miles, he got it with 12xxx and put maybe 1000 miles on it total. It had Lamborghini doors on it, 18's, bags, Razzi kit, hood, m3 vents cut into the fenders all fiberglass interior. I swapped the fenders, and put new 17's on it now. I also plastidipped the hood, roof, trunk and spoiler matte black. The kit is sold and I'm looking to most likely do a 2002 neon front bumper with the 2000 civic lip, and probably the srt4 skirts and rear bumper wanting to give it a much cleaner look. The Lambo doors are off and I picked up all factory charcoal pieces for the interior now, so no more fiberglass. I also want to remove the wing and possibly swap the hood for an srt4 one, not sure yet on that, I just think this hood is dated on its style.

When I got it from him:

Now:

Traded my trunk and spoiler for a clean base model trunk with no spoiler or holes from one then dipped it black

Thanks

I finally got the kit off and did a 2002 front bumper. I started playing with some dip, but think I'm going with matte red instead for the car. I want to do the srt rear bumper, side skirts and a civic type r lip up front, but I'm broke from Christmas so it needs to wait. Here are current pics.

Got a little work done yesterday. Got clearance for the tie rods, and cut more clearance for the front tires, and welded it all back together. I could roll all the way down now up front, the back will be next. I didn't get as much additional drop as I wanted, but it's still came down some. I would need extensive work to get more drop up front. The sway bar is still hooked up and not affecting drop either.

Pass side after cut(forgot to get after pic, but it looks just like the dr side does now)

I had wanted to do an srt4 bumper, but they are too damn much money, plus the cost of the headlight swap then too.
But I don't care for that srt-d bumper, too solid between the lights, no character. Sorry if that's your car, it's just not for me.

Yeah, hopefully I can get the lip, side skirts and rear bumper/taillights soon then spray it in the spring.

Might want to plasti-dip the insides of the fenders, and surrounding areas, to keep the paint from getting blasted off from road debris.

I had to pretty much scrap the front fenders on my '99 from the PO running it without fender liners.

Especially at the bottom near the doors, all the crud accumulates down there and holds water.

Yeah I saw that gathering in there, I clean it out every now and then. I did think about doing duplicolor bedliner behind the fenders and rear wheel wells

Car is lookin good! But take off the intake behind the bumper! It will help a little the only purpose is to make the intake quiet and doesnt help hp

Decided the lime green wasn't the color I'm going with, so I peeled it and dipped the front bumper black tonight, looks a lot better. I know what color I'm going with but I need to get the srt4 skirts and rear bumper/taillights and front lip before I can dip it and I'm broke right now. So hopefully soon.

Yeah I wondered about that, but it's kind of built in dirt shield right now since the fender liners are out

LOL, good call. A lot of stuff can get flung towards the air inlet without something to shield it.

Yeah, I have a set of liners, but they need to be modified to clear because of the tires tucking up in when dropped

I'm actually trading that hood for an srt one tomorrow. Then need to decide if I want to stay with the 02 bumper or go 03+

Gas station pics from on the way home from the trade is the best I can do with the weather right now. I have r/t side skirts coming, and the srt4 rear bumper and taillights coming as well. Just need to decide what I want to do with the front, stay with the 02 and get the civic lip, go 03+ and the mopar lip or srt4 front...
