im back, just not in a neon

been a long time since ive been on here and in the past couple years alot has changed. completely parted out the neon, damn near every nut and bolt. still have some parts fs on here.

anyway, that brings us to the newest project. picked up an 88 ram 50 for 2500 about a month ago from an older 'MINI TRUCK" guy. things clean as a whistle minus a few scratches. paint is only a couple years old, though not the greatest quality. motor was rebuilt 30k ago, new clutch and front end parts, tie rods, ball joints, bushings, ect... newer tires on eagle alloys. clean, just not really my style. like i said, its an "old school mini truck" so the interior needs gone thru as its hideous imo (flames in the headliner, very plushy seats and door panels that have started to become sun-faded :puke: ect...) but im going to slowly make it more my own.

picked it up to use as a commuter to save miles on my 97 cummins but we know how that goes... already thinking of a 4g63 swap... we'll see. currently its a 2.6 with a 5 speed. doesnt leak a drop! the carb has a gajibilzillion vacuum lines, almost all of which are cracked/leaking. swaping it out for a weber 32/36 and going to throw on a header since the stock one is cracked somewhere. its got an electric fan shround with two fans, not sure what its from, but whoever installed them did a terrible job. old 16 gauge wiring with a ton of unnecessary connections, old/used relays and of course no fuses. the wiring shorted out a relay which was wired directly to the ignition wire to the starter so when the relay burnt up, so did the starter solenoid cussing: so ive already gotten intimate with the truck a bit by now. rewired the fans with new relays, fuses, and 10 gauge wire and put each fan on its own toggle switch (because racecar) and a new starter all within the first three days of owning it

suspension is terrible. bounces all over the road so im going to try ans stiffen it up, add a rear sway bar, and try to lower the rear end some more as i think its a lil high.

going to ditch the tiny grant wheel just not sure for what yet and looking into swapping out the bench for some buckets. along with new door panels and some new tint since its starting to peel on the upper windows and bubble in the rear. also want to have the bed bedlined. it was a painters truck before so theres all kinds of paint in the bed

heres some pics, enjoy

right after i bought it:

damn its been a while! i loved your old neon was sad to see it go...

but the truck looks pretty good overall. clean it up overall and i think it could be a pretty badass truck.

I for sure thing some buckets in the front would look much better and not so 1989... but its got some potential. im locked in for progress

I was just working on one of these turds just the Isuzu version. To each their own. I'll stick to neons

Such quality wording.

Calls truck a turd, prefers Neons.

Nice little truck man. Doesn't even look like a Dodge? Guess I am not familiar with that year of Rams.

Re badged Mitsubishi.

I have an Isky cam lying around I bought for my Raider. But they messed that engine up so bad when they rebuilt it, I decided to get it running decent with the stock cam first, then just never really had the urge to use the Isky.

There's different levels of turds, I classify the neon just above these

I agree with the 4G63T swap. That will be a fun truck with that.

Awesome little longbed! I got fed up with the 4g64 in my 1990 and swapping it with a 2.4 from a stratus now lol much better engine than the 4g6x motors in my opinion and much more simple

Ive seen you post on the mightyram50 forum. Interested in how that swap goes for you. Might have to plan something similar in the future

The biggest hurdle it seems will be getting a trans that will fit the TINY tunnel in the truck, which the auto has a bigger tunnel but you can also use the smaller 904 if you want an auto for a drag truck but mines a driver so it will be 5 speed but right now it seems if you could get your hands on a 2.4 rwd liberty it would be everything you need to do the swap

Let me find it and make sure it is still in good shape. Should still be in the box it came in.
